LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

During this episode, both DH and I looked at eachother and said "these are getting to be just DUMB"...I'm losing interest fast and pretty sure that we won't want to watch the Feb episodes either. This is much like the Sopranos who got too big for their britches and seemed to stagger, then take time off and WE never came back!

Yeah, with dh being a doctor he's doing a lot of complaining about these last shows too. After every episode he used to say "this is my favorite show of all times." But he hasn't said that for the last two.

Last night he kept complaining about the "pacemaker" thing...about how they couldn't insert one with a needle.....about how a pacemaker wouldn't make your heart "explode" at a certain heart rate.....about how "that is not how a pacemaker works".....oh...and how that woman went from a perfect heart rate to "asystole".....dh said "you never go straight from a sinus rhythm to asystole!!

And WHY OH WHY didn't someone come to the cages when Kate was out? You know they are being monitored 24/7. :confused3

Dh has a pediatric podcast and he's thinking of adding a segment called "keeping it real" in which he talks about the medical mismanagement on both LOST and Grey's Anatomy....both of them have BLATENT medical errors that could easily be corrected with a good medical consultant.

Oh, and another thing. Ben shook that bunny "to death" and dh said "they could have just given the rabbit a sedative right before they brought him in the room.....that doesn't prove the bunny died."

And then the bunny reappears later and I IMMEDIATELY say "whose to say that's the same bunny?"

Getting hokey, if you ask me.

And I agree.....DRAGGING.

It's like the Left Behind series. I LOVED it at first--fast action, lots going on, then around book 4 or 5, they authors decided to DRAG everything out (presumably to increase the number of books in the series and sell more books).....well, I ended up suffering through a couple more books, but I couldn't do it anymore. I finally gave up. Too boring.

Who else is sick and tired of seeing Sawyer getting the crap kicked out of him every other week? Geesh, how about we pick on someone else for a change? It's getting old real fast and starting to tick me off!!

OMG - this is me also! At around 8:50 last night I even said, I don't know if I feel like watching Sawyer be tortured tonight.

No, I don't think they had anything to do with the plane crashing there. It crashed because Desmond went out of the hatch after Kelvin, and then ended up getting in a struggle with him and killed him.

Desmond then ran back to the hatch and pressed the buttons as the magnet started to do it's whole shake and shimmy thing. Remember the first episode of this season? The Others where in their houses, one even had a book club meeting going on. They heard the noises and all ran outside, where they saw the plane coming down. Ben then told Ethan and the other guy to get to the crash site and to act like survivors and to gather information.

So, I don't think the others brought the plane down. It was Desmond that accidentally did it.

Through their investigation of the survivors (on the internet and contact with the outside world), they have found that Jack is a surgeon and now want him because they need him.

I know that Desmond accidentally brought the plane down, but I thought the previews said we'll find out why they survived, which I don't quite understand, because we know the Others didn't cause the crash, so how could they have helped them survive. Maybe I'm not remembering the exact wording on the previews. Does anyone remember what the exact wording was? I really thought it said we find out why they survived.

I love LOST, but they need to move it along at a bit of a quicker pace. They always promise answer, and revelations. Of course they almost never fulfill the promises.

I had a feeling that they wanted Jack for his surgical abilities. He is very valuable. That would be why they are treating him so good. What I can't figure out is what they want Sawyer and Kate for.

And if they are such peace loving people, then why are they so mean to everyone?

I am getting really tired of the cages and beating. Every week I keep hoping the next weeks previews will show them finally getting away from those "Others"

Yeah, I think it said something like that. Not to mention, Hurley and his numbers. If they were on the hatch and the recording that Danielle heard and he has them. How is there a connections. I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND!! I WANT ANSWERS!! :smooth:

It seems like when you finally get an answer (like Desmond being responsible for the plane coming down) then it opens up a whole bunch of other quesitons and things I don't understand.

I love this show. But, I do think they have gotten off track a little bit. I am willing to stick it out for a few more episodes and hope for better.

I agree with a pp that they need a new punching bag. I think Sawyer has suffered enough. I mean, they have been on this island for about 1 1/2 months and he has been tortured, shot, shocked, and beaten up countless times. Even if the island has healing capablities, that is a lot to recover from.

Okay, so Juliet is a fertility doctor. What does that mean? Why would they need a fertility doctor on the island? If she has lived her whole life on the island, like Ben, how did she get her education/training?

I think that there may be an underground tunnel between the islands. In a previous episode, after Jack tried to open the hatch door, he realized that he was being kept underwater. So, they wouldn't need a boat to get back to the other island if they have a tunnel.

Maybe they are a group that specializes in helping infertile couples, and they all gather at the island to get PG? :rotfl: I don't know anymore!

I am intrigued vs. frustruated, so I guess that is good. Two more episodes that have lots of explaining to do. Sayid, Jin, Sun, Hurley, Rose and her DH, Locke.

I too thought of the tunnel option. Especially since Juliet said Jack was in an aquarium.

Tired of Sawyer being the one getting beat up all the time. Maybe he is "paying" for all the crap he dished out to people his whole life and getting all of those things done to him is his pennance.

no one has mentioned the Sub yet??!!

When that guy came back and told Benry that "the sub is back. We have a situation." Do they have a submarine? Remember when Colleen's crew got on the sailboat that Sun was on and she shot her? Then when Sun fell into the water, you didn't see another boat around. So how did they get onto the sailboat without Jin and Sayid seeing them? SUBMARINE! The Hydra plant is underwater, how did they get there? SUBMARINE! It all makes sense  :rotfl2:

I think that they are keeping Sawyer and Kate for reproduction purposes. Doesn't it seem wierd that they have Kate in a dress? I know, she finally just got pants. But they stole all the children (including Rousseau's daughter) and don't forget they did something to Aaron when Claire was still PG and now we find out that Juliet is a fertility doctor? :scratchin Something all fits here and I can't figure out how.

Is that what they said??? I didn't catch it and made a mental note to go back and watch that part over to hear what they said. Very interesting.

I think you are on to something with the fertility thing. It doesn't appear that there are any children on the island, except Alex and Aaron. It will be interesting to see what happens when they find out that Sun is pregnant.

Yes, they have a submarine. But that seems less important to me than Juliet being a fertility doctor. I'm trying to figure out how she fits into the picture. Why did they want the kids...where are the kids from the plane crash...so strange.

Sayid walked around the whole island, following the shore in the 1st season didn't he? That's when he found the French lady. So you'd think he would have seen the 2nd island. So either (a) there IS no 2nd island and Ben is just conning Sawyer ("their" island just curves around; or (b) there's some kind of "cloaking" device preventing the Losties from seeing Ben's island.
No, Sayid set out to walk around the whole island, but meeting the French woman interrupted his trip. He returned "home" after his encounter with her. So it is possible that he didn't walk far enough to see the other island.

I also think it's very possible that Ben is just showing Sawyer another island to prevent him from trying to escape, but they're still on "the" island. Ben has already shown himself to be exceedingly cruel, so this is believable.

and i have to agree. the pacemaker thing was stupid.
Yeah, anyone who knows anything about pacemakers would know that's NOT how they work; however, the point wasn't to tell the truth -- the point was to scare Sawyer, who isn't really academic-smart. HE would believe it.

MyGoofy26, it's funny that you brought up Sun and Jae, I was thinking the same thing, when she said she can't do this, but I'm thinking they did sleep together and when she says I can't do this, she just means she can't continue what they're doing. On the other hand, I could be totally wrong :teeth:
Did she say they can't do continue this, or did she say they can't do this? One implies she wants to stop an affair that's been going on a while, the other implies that she was ready to begin an affair, but now that she's actually in the bed, she can't bring herself to go through with it.

Of course, the way we saw her first, then he sort of popped up behind her, it appeared that they'd already done it.

It would not be from the plane crash, but from when she took the pregnancy test. They had been on the island for 40+ days when she took the test.

Considering he died, and she was at his funeral, so a few mores days had gone by, let's assume it was a couple of week. Or at least a week. One week can make all the difference in the world, when added to 40 days. I don't think Jae is the father.
I don't think he is the father either. Okay, it's believable that the stress from his death, her father finding her naked with him, and her decision to run away and leave Jin, either her periods could've been irratic OR she could've just failed to pay attention to them . . . so she might have missed the early signs of pregnancy. On the other hand, she was carrying a pregnancy test in her bag, which shows she was already wondering when she got on the plan.

Ah, I thought he had her phone. OK so she did call him, but why on Earth would Jack assume that meant they were having an affair. He definitely IS paranoid.
Because at another point he heard his father's phone ring (with Sarah's distinctive ring tone), and his father walked away from him, turning his back and acting as if it was a very personal call. It was a "suggestive" scene -- not the way father-in-laws typically talk to their sons' wives.

THEN LATER he considered the other phone incident a SECOND clue.

I don't they're having an affair, but the hints did seem to be there.

That's interesting. I heard that Michael was not coming back for a long time, if ever. I wonder if they'll say their boat capsized and only Walt survived.
If Michael comes back, he can never again join the "Lost" society. Who'd accept him after what he did? Walt, they'd accept. Michael -- never.

Ok, here's a wild theory: The spine in the x-ray - it's Jack's Dad!! Remember Jack found his dad's coffin in the jungle, but there was no body. The island heals (according my other theory, it heals what happened BEFORE they got there, not what happens while they're there), so Jack's dad is alive. The others kidnapped Jack so he can operate to save his dad's life and make peace.

I know it's crazy, but it's not any crazier than the stuff they're giving us!!

Didn't Jack say the x-ray was of a man about 40 years old?

Maybe I thought of this because of everything that's been on the news lately, but I wonder if Juliet is a fertility doctor, and the 'others' are interested in babies and children for some sort of cell research? The infants for some sort of stem cell research and chlidren for some sort of training into their society? Stem cells could help cure whoever this is with the bad spine? Ben said he had been on the island all his life - maybe he was a child captured by the original 'others' or scientists? It's a total guess, and probably way off base, but when she said she was a fertility doctor, and how they were desperate to do stuff to Claire and her baby, and Rousseau and her baby....I just wonder since I definitely think this is all some big science experiment of some sort gone awry.
