Does anybody have any theories of how Penny's father plays into all this?
I wondered if he could possibly be the "someone is coming to the island" that Jacob mentioned to Hurley.

Jack destroying the mirrors means nothing in my mind. Jacob can fix those easily in the Lost world. Jacob admitted to Hurley that what was more important was getting Jack out of the Temple. Jacob knows that Flocke, or MIB is about to bring a world of hurt down on the temple people with Claire's help and is merely getting his candidates to higher ground to save them from harm.
All the candidates with the exception of Sayid are now out of the temple.
I certainly wouldn't mind that since I've really missed Desmond's character. But, then why would Jacob not want Desmond to come back, since he obviously knew Jack would destroy the lighthouse that would help this "someone" come back. Why would he NOT want Desmond on the island? Because he was not a candidate? I'm so confused!
So, what did you all think about what "samuri" dad said to Jack at the piano audition? Something about them being so young and wishing they could intervene/help them?
I think the leading candidate for who is coming to the island is Desmond. Hawking told him at the church when everyone was preparing to go back to the island on the Aijira flight that the island was not through with him yet.
As far as Widmore goes I'm not to sure how or if he is going to fit back into the puzzle. Actually that's one of my biggest concerns about the show as it moves towards an end is that there are hundreds of things we want to know but I don't think there is enough time left to answer them all. The producers have actually commented on this and said there are specific questions that just will not be addressed.

The producers have stressed on more than one occasion (on Jimmy Kimmel Live and on the Official Lost Podcast, just to name two times of which I'm personally aware) that the sideways timeline is as real as the island timeline, and the stakes there are as equally real. Was the sideways timeline shown thru the eyes of the mirrors at the lighthouse (metaphorically speaking), or are they real to some degree?

In a relatively recent Official Lost Podcast (at least I think that's where I heard it), Damon and Carlton clarified that Matthew Fox knows how Jack's story ends, but not necessarily how the series itself concludes.Matthew Fox has stated that he's the only actor who knows how the story ends and he's saying it ends beautifully, but sad.
Thanks for stating this!!
I don't know how true it is (and my opinion is that I don't give it much weight), but Matthew Fox has stated that he's the only actor who knows how the story ends and he's saying it ends beautifully, but sad.
I watched a bit of the Comic Con on you tube and Jorge Garcia (Hurley) showed up in the audience asking questions. He asked producers if we were going to have all our answers by season finale and they acknowledged that we'd have all the answers that were relevant to each characters story, but if we're wanting minor answers, well, we won't be getting ALL questions answered. Jorge then asked, what happened to Shannon's inhaler? It was a funny moment and I found myself laughing alongside the audience in the video. Then however, in the Lighthouse, we find out what happened to Shannon's inhaler.
I only say this because I wonder if Matthew isn't playing us in a similar way.
How do we find out about her inhaler in the lighthouse? I missed the clue last week
When Hurley and Jack are on their way to the lighthouse they find an inhaler on the ground and mention that it was Shannon's. They realize that they are near the caves from Season 1 and revisit the two skeletons they found there.
Before I get started, for those of you who don't read longer posts, don't miss my OMG minute down in the thread. I will make it bold so you don't miss it. I thank God I don't have to get up early tomorrow.
I just watched, The Substitute, again on ABC and it came with commentary from Jon Lachonis.

I kept notes as I watched, and here is what I believed to be his highlights. Keep in mind, when he is speaking of Locke, his commentary is only based on Locke telling the truth (he acknowledges that he comes with credibility problems). I'm going to keep an eye out for his commentary in the future. I think he had some great insight.
Helen talking to wedding planner at the beginning of the episode. Could it have been Boone?
Every flash sideways has a mirror shot (the use of a mirror) and those moments all mark a decision or realization for that character.
The black stone slightly outweighed the light one one the scale. Is that the balance between good and evil at that point in time?
Sawyer standing on the side of dark, while Flocke is on the side of light, scene looks divided (I added this myself, there was no commentary about it. Here is a photo of it, but it's small, so I hope you can see it clearly enough).

Ladder in the back of the cave they entered (I kept rewinding and could not see the ladder myself).
Wow, this one really shocked me. He touched Jin and Sun together. Could that mean that it's both of them, or would it mean that it's Yi Jeon Kwon (their unborn son)?
When Flocke is telling us that Jacob manipulated the "candidates," he is saying that Jacob will do anything in his power to get what he wants and that Flocke is a prisoner rather than a adversary of Jacob's.
This would mean that everything on the island was never meant to be.
We see 3 Locke's. Sideways Locke, Flocke Locke, and dead lock. Does it equal the 3 trinities?
Biblically, the 3 trinities are God the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. In numerology, it means past, present, and future.
