Looking For Control Freaks & Worry Warts too........

Hi! I just had to jump in and introduce myself...I am a major worry wort. We are leaving for WDW at 9pm and I am freaking out! Usually, I am a planner, but this trip was spur of the moment. Plus, I just went back to work after my 3rd baby in 3years, so needlessness to say, I did not get enough done ahead of time like I usually do.

I can't stop worrying. I am worried about getting all of us through security at the airport. I am worrying about my kids, because the two older ones have sinus infections. They are both on antibiotics and I took them both to the pediatrician yesterday just to make sure their ears and chests were clear. I am worried about the baby getting sick on the trip. I am worried about all 3 of the kids sleeping in one room...I think they might just take turns waking each other up during the night with crying. Of course, I have the usual travel worries, like forgetting something. Also, I am worried about my dogs...my sister and brother-in-law will be checking in on them b/c they don't do well at a kennel, so I hope my house is still in one piece when I get back.

I am going to stop myself, because the list could go on and on forever. The worst part about all this worrying is my husband. He is too laid back and NEVER worries about anything. Example..we went to rent a car last week and his DL was expired! All that I could think was, "I am so glad this happened now because if we got to the airport and he couldn't get on the plane, we would have been in major trouble." :furious: So I basically have to do all the worrying for the whole family.

I feel good just getting that off my chest..now I have to stop procrastinating and get it together. I will stop back in after my trip to let you know how it went...usually everything works out fine, so I am keeping my fingers crossed for this time, too.

It sounds like I could have written your post myself! I am just like you so it's easier said then done but it all does work out OK. There are stores, and doctors and hospitals, and everything you could need there. As for the airport....I hate that part too but just have all the stuff on your check list (get the check list from your airline too for the current airport rules) and you will be good to go. After that it will be smooth sailing! My DH is the same way as yours and it is actually irritating!!! Especially on travel day!!!
We had an incredible trip to WDW in October and let me just tell you a couple mishaps...
We weighed our luggage at home and it was too heavy...
we couldn't fit all our luggage in our ride to the airport, My DD got a bladder infection while we were there and my luggage broke right before the bell boy was coming to get it to go home.....
It all got worked out and it's all forgotten already!

Hey did you check out our check list so far? Is it helpful?

Another thing...I just think it's so funny I am trying to calm someone elses nerves. Maybe my other pals here will find the humor in that too!

FromScratchMom...by the way do you bake from scratch????

Yes, Debbie. I do bake from scratch, not everything, but a lot. It is a big thing with me, wanting to feed my family a healthy diet and not a bunch of chemical food additives. I think that is where I concentrate that majority of my worry-wart energies. If I let myself get going, I could go on forever about our food supply and diet issues. Luckily my DH and I both like to cook and are pretty good at it. He isn't a worry wart about anything, but he'll let me vent when I'm frustrated about problems finding healthy foods that are additive free and he'll even try to help with the shopping to some extent although he isn't really good about remembering what is the right stuff to get. I do buy Rudi's organic bread for sandwiches sometimes. I've been really happy since that became available. Before there was really not any good sandwich bread option that was truly "preservative-free" only yuck companies that would label that way because of all of the fraudulent labeling that is allowed. But now suddenly, there are a few options that have come on the scene in the last year. I'm feeling mighty good about going to Disney and knowing that they have the reputation of helping those of us on picky and different kinds of diets! No cooking. No clean-up! I'll be eating out for a week! :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

Once you get there everything will work out and you will have a wonderful time! I find that advice from fellow worry warts (like myself) somehow eases me instead of my husband (also laid back) who just pisses me off because he thinks there's a magical switch to being relaxed and stressed. :thumbsup2 I think as moms we all expect the worst to happen and when it doesn't we are relieved. So things can only go up from there!

Debbie: Sorry if this is OT (or TMI), but my DD has had 2-3 bladder infections since she's been potty trained. You mentioned your DD had one before too. I freak out about it because she's had a few. I read a story that I don't want to worry you with, but I was wondering what did you do to prevent her from getting more UTI?

I have no idea how she got it because she has never had one before and she got it in the beginning of the trip so I don't think it was even from her bathing suit at that point but all I have heard is no bubble/soap baths and wipe correctly. The thing is once you get one then it is more easy to get another.
DD has NOt had another one though since.
Did that answer your question?
Seriously though...the medicine is brutal for it. Trying to get her to take it was nightmare! That was worse than taking her to go to the bathroom in between every ride or restaraunt!

Good for you! It is A TON of work to cook healthy. My big thing right now is organic milk because my kids drink so.... much. I try and be good but I also serve a couple things that would probably give you nightmares (ie. Hamburger helper) :rotfl2:

I say good for you too! I think it would be great if every mom would just take a step or two in the right direction. That would impact the market place enough to make some of those types of things a little more affordable and hopefully set up a cascade effect with consumers creating more and more demand for better quality foods while producers start turning their end around by setting up for more and more of the better practices.

I actually don't do very much in the way of organic. On any given month that I come across more organic that is at a better price than the usual organic stuff, I buy a lot more of it. But usually I only get a little bit of organic and put my money into other things like grass-fed beef or free-range chicken. I hate it that most of the poultry in the grocery store is injected with "natural flavors" which means MSG 90% of the time. So getting chicken that is naturally healthy and flavorful is my most common splurge with the extra budget. But, I'm not completely set on any one of those issues as being the most important one. I just watch what is going on with the pricing and try to always take advantage of good prices in all three categories and then also put a certain bit of extra in my grocery budget to get a few things above and beyond.

Of course I won't fuss at you, if you decide to give up the hamburger helper. :p Another big thing with me is making homemade stock for a base for healthy soups and sauces, rather than using the powdered alternatives that took over the market back in the ... was it the forties? Anyway, I'd be happy to direct you to a fantastic article on homemade broths that I came across recently.(http://www.westonaprice.org/foodfeatures/broth.html) It ends with a few recipes and they are really good. It is true that it is a relatively big job compared to using canned stock or instant products, but it can be like making your own convenience foods. You can freeze your own stock in quart or pint or cup size containers after you make a big batch and then it is super easy to use in the weeks that follow. Another great thing to do is to freeze some in ice cube trays and then pop the cubes out and store them in a gallon size ziplock. They are great for sauces and other stuff where you would need a touch here and there, especially if you've reduced it down a whole lot before freezing it. :goodvibes

Thanks FromScratchMom...You are a wealth of information! I love it (and I welcome it).

I am having a very blue morning so far. :sad2: It is cold, windy, gloomy and there is no hope for sunshine at all around here. I hate it! I think my kids are getting sick and my DD has been crying when I drop her off at PS this week. I have to watch her in the window as I pull away waving for me to come back. I just hate it! I swear my kids don't do good in this weather either.
I just feel like I want to cry. Oh well. Maybe if I go accomplish a few things I will feel better.
I hope you guys have a good one!!!!
Debbie

Hi again,
I still feel in such a funk and now I realized I have appointments for the kids to get flu shots tomorrow. There will be a complete melt down by my DD when she realizes what is going on but now I am wondering if they should even go to get it if they have colds. I think the rule is they will still give it to them if they don't have a fever but now I am worrying like crazy over it!
Opinions?
Debbie

I'm a type A control freak worry wart too but I realized on our trip 3 weeks ago that things happen and you just have to roll with it. On our very first day of the trip we got a call from home that my grandma had died and later we also missed out on 3 of our Disney vacay days - 2 days my son was sick and 1 day my husband was sick. It was our first Disney trip we were relieved to come home from.

That is so sad. I think all the controling and worrying is done before hand because once you are in it you probably just go on auto pilot.
Do you agree?

About giving Flu shots: I'm not sure if it's a fever or sick in general. WHen DD would get shots I'd give her some Tylenol before we left and she breezed through no problem. We were supposed to get Flu shots soon, but DD had the Flu the last 3 days and I've got it now.

Oh Pam...that stinks! I'm sorry you don't feel good! :guilty: I hope you get better soon! :goodvibes

I called and my doc said they would do it since the kids don't have fevers (yet). :sad2:

Oh, I'm so sorry Debbie. I sure hope your day picked up! And that you're having a nice evening too! :goodvibes

About the flu shot thing. Right before we got ours, my daughters had been sick, including fever for 2 days. It just so happened that the fever broke before lunch the day before our appointments, which were in the afternoon by the way. The pediatrician was a little worried about it and told me to keep an eye on them. She said if the fever had been within the last 24 hours that she would not have given them the shots. But luckily they breezed through it and even all of the symptoms they had had from being sick were gone by the next day.

Thanks for the 411 on the flu shot..I thought it was just if they were sick at all. I suppose we don't need them now :confused3 . I had to go pick up DD10 from school because now she has it too. It was a pathetic sight! Me..no makeup, hair yucky, sweatpants, sandals, and a very old t shirt and my 3 yo, who was at least dressed, with hair all over the place because she didn't want me to touch her hair. Bless her heart I feel bad that she is sick as well, but man...she is one cranky child today. My 10 yo is a strawberry blonde so you can just look at her cheeks and you know when she's got a fever. They are both sleeping right now. Which is where I should be BUt I am enjoying a little peace and quiet. Then I'll lay down. Dh called and had to work last night ( :furious: ) , went in today..well I told him to, but it would have been nice if he offered to stay, and he has to go in tomorrow. Of course, Thanksgiving's next week..and I've got more than a full plate of things to do and house in a complete mess. (This is where I insert a "Sigh" since there's no smiley for it)

Sorry for being wimpy...I'm just in that self pity mood today. Whenever I get sick I worry about all the more things I have to do that didn't get done. Does that make sense? Of course, our trip to WDW is right around the corner. I'm TRYING not to worry about the planning so much.

PAM, I feel for you. I always have a pity party for myself when I am sick. I am the worst! Thankfully I have stayed reasonabley healthy. When I taught Kindergarten (before I had kids) I was sick ALL the time. Right now I am parinoid I am going to get the kids colds which right now seem to be just colds (knock on wood).

The flu shots were so sad today. It was terrible when DD realized where we were and what was about to happen. Oh well, another thing I can check off my "to do" list.

I stress over Thanksgiving but for different reasons. We go to see both familys because I can't stand the thought of not being with my parents at all but the two houses are very far from each other. Oh well. That's life. I hear other people's Thanksgiving woas and mine are NOTHING!

Hang in there everyone!
Lisa...where are ya???

Side note......
If I was rich I would go to WDW every few months! That would cure my stress! Listen, I saw one women has as her tag....

Disney World IS my therapy!

I AGREE!!!!!!

That's soooo true. Disney is excellent therapy! Sorry your kids didn't like the Flu shot. I always hated when they got shots. My older DD and DH are fainters when it comes to that stuff. Now hopefully your kids won't get it! Keep fingers crossed! Well, hopefully we are done with the Flu and we're home free when we go to WDW!! Now THAT would be nice! Have a great night everyone!

Anyone else have some worries they want to get off there chests?

So far the kids are doing OK. They just seem to have colds. The flu shot didn't seem to affect them in anyway either.

I have a ton to do today. We did a ton of pictures with the Disney Photo pass (which I highly recomend) and ordered all the pix already but you can also use this service of thiers where they use all your pix to make a DVD. It is kind of pricey but you can use all your photo pass pix plus your own pix and then they add all these really neat graphics. Well, yesterday afternoon I get this email saying that the web page will be closing down until January 2007 so now I have to create the whole video today to get it done for Christmas!!!!! What a pain. It takes a lot of time to organize the pix and put them in an order of some kind. I am dreading it. With the two little ones it's hard to get a chunk of time like that to just sit and look through everything.

Chicago has it's "Festival of Lights" parade tonight. Guess who the Grand Marshall is????????" None other than MICKEY himself!!!! ::MickeyMo
So I am bringing my DD at about 4:30 today. The parade starts at 6. I'll leave the DS home with his Dad. We probably shouldn't even be going at all but I would hate for DD to miss it. Too bad it's freezing here too!!! :cold:

Hope you guys are all doing good.
Hang in there!
Debbie

Have fun at the Parade! Disney Photo Pass sounds neat..I like the DVD idea. The only time I ever get anything done is when DD is in preschool or after 10pm.
