Looking for an active island vacation

Looking for something that offers lots to do (other than just water activities). We've been to Hawaii and Mexico and am considering other places closer to home. Just not sure which destination offers the most to do. We (husband, myself and teenage daughter) enjoy sightseeing, hiking, shopping, etc., in addtion to the beach.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Dominican Republic--Punta Cana. Best beaches I've ever encountered and there are ziplining/culture tours, jeep tours, etc. We also swam with the dolphins Beautiful people, beautiful island. I wouldn't go shopping though, unless you like to be bombarded with sales pitches--they won't leave you alone.

We had a blast in Puerto Rico last year, 3 daughters, a 6 year old and 2 teens. Toured the forts in Old San Juan, went to the rain forest, did some shopping and of course the water activities like snorkling and kayaking. Bonus, it's a US territory so no need for passports or to go through customs and everything is in US dollars.
