I have always wanted to camp at Fort Wilderness! But we always seem to wind up at a hotel. But i think this might be the trip for the camping!!! :)

I just spoke with Disney because this is all new to me. He mentioned that we would probably be set up at Creekside Meadow but could request loops 1500 or 2000. I don't really like the idea of the big group area in the Meadow. Does anyone have any experience with getting their loop request honored?

Or does anyone have any experience staying in the Meadow area? I had thought that was just used for school/cub scout groups but he said no.

Any other tips would be fabulous! We are leaving the popup at home because we just don't want to drive it for 20 hours. So tent camping tips would be fabulous!

Thanks! I'm so excited to finally try this!

We are tent campers also. I am not sure where he came up with creekside meadow, there are 2 tent/pop-up loops, 1500 and 2000.
2000 loop is away from everything, and if you don't like walking or if you don't have a cart or bikes you would need to take the internal bus to get around. 2000 loop is also a big loop, if I recall, it has 60 sites.
1500 loop, which is the loop we are in right now is across the road from the Meadow's pool and trading post, a short 5 min. walk, if you walk slow. There are only 21 sites in 1500, and it is a bit harder to get into, but if you read in the March pre trip and trip reports it tells how we got into 1500, and a lot of people also do the same thing.

With a tent you are not tied down to just those to loops. If you want to pay the higher prices you can stay in any category of sites. I have even seen a tent on a premium site last year.

snowmedic, do you feel that if a family is in decent shape and used to longer walks that it would be a huge deal staying in 2000 to get to the pool?...without a golf cart or bikes?

....the kids would all have scooters though. parents have two feet.

If in decent shape, walking to the pool would not be a problem. If you walk around there is a path at the back of creekside meadow, that takes you into, I believe the 900 loop, then it is just a walk across the street to the pool. When we did it a few years ago, it took maybe 5 - 10 min. Or, depending on how fit you want to be you could always go out the loop and stay on the sidewalk. 15 - 20 min. walk, maybe.

We tent camped in the 2000 loop last March and loved it. If you are able to bring bikes, I highly recommend them for getting around the resort in a fun, quick & healthy way.

When I was looping this evening, there is a premium site with 2 or 3 tents on it. I will go up and take a pic in the morning since it is on the way to the Settlement.

You can tell him you were right on this one! :)

I'm planning on tent camping in a preferred camp site. Is it worth paying the extra money for the preferred camp site for a tent? What are the advantages of this?

I am going to post a trip report, but at this point I would pay more money to NOT tent camp in the 2000 loop. Wish there was an option to pay more and get the 1500 loop guaranteed. It wasn't the worst, but with very loud locals with spotlights and music set up, Boy Scouts in the meadow, illegal fires, and tons of cars on each site, it wasn't great either. This was mostly over the weekend but still.

The 700 loop is lovely!

Hi and welcome! Location and having a sewer for dish water are 2 advantages I can think of.

Creekside Meadow is next to 2000 and backs up to 900 where a bridge is located so folks can walk to the Meadow trading post area. It isn't that bad and is fully self contained--except when they forget to turn the power on the toilets and we had to go over to 2000 temporarily.

It was full this weekend and it was more likely that the couple of sites backing up to the Meadow Would use our comfort station.

I guess it can get noisy but we had to follow the same quiet hours. I don't know how it is possible for illegal fires. Creekside Meadow had 3 large fire pits that I counted. So unlike regular sites, the Meadow is set up for legal bonfires.

That said, I have camped on 2000 before and it wasn't an issue. Just request the side not up against Creekside Meadow it you really don't want to be near them. My family had no issue walking places. While there is a bridge from 900, accessing it from 2000 may require cutting through the Meadow. But I didn't give it a good look.
