Life After Marathons: A Running/barre3/Coffee/Life Journal

July 2nd Week Check-In

3 barre3 classes (Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday, all in-studio)
2 runs (Monday + Wednesday)
2 walks (Monday + Sunday)

This week was moving week and it was a lot. I'm very exhausted. And I still have shopping to do, so there's that. But so far all good. And I'm just trying to take things one day at a time, unpacking a little at a time, filling in what I'm missing a little at a time ... it may take a bit, but eventually I'll get the apartment to where I want it to be.

July 3rd Week Check-In

I guess I forgot to post this earlier this week. Been dealing with some stuff. A lot happening right now.

2 barre3 classes (Tuesday in-studio, Friday livestream)
2 runs (Monday + Thursday)
1 walk (Wednesday)

I had some back pain mid-week, so that slowed me down a bit. Also just a long week. Things are pretty unsettled right now. But I'm hoping that things can settle down soon ... just gotta figure out a lot of stuff.

It's almost the end of July (okay fine I still have a week) and I haven't picked out a race yet.

July 4th Week Check-In

July is almost over and I have no idea what's flying. I have a lot going on (new apartment, new job, family stuff) and I can't worry about where I'm committing my energy. So the goal for the next few weeks/months is forgiveness and understanding that stuff's not gonna happen.

Anyway, this week:
2 barre3 classes (Tuesday + Thursday in-studio)
2 runs (Monday + Wednesday)
2 walks (Wednesday + Friday)

Update: I may have injured my knee. Nothing serious, but I'm trying to decide if resting for a week is a good idea.

Also, I have a couch now. And a new desk. A lot has happened since my last update. I forgot to post an update for the last week of July but I ran some and I took some barre3 classes and I walked so it was all good.

Still haven't picked out my next race, but it may be a runDisney virtual because not sure I can/want to travel at the moment (for both personal and delta reasons).

Edited to add: The couch is green and it's giving me some strong little mermaid vibes. And I do not like the accent pillows (which I knew before I bought it) so I might buy new ones. So I'm thinking maybe purple accent pillows for a full little mermaid couch disneybound.

What happened to your knee?

I'm not entirely sure. When I run, it hurts. But not in any specific place - the whole joint feels achy. This started on Monday's run and got really bad at the end of today's run. It's weird, because I can't identify what part of my knee hurts or what I could have done to cause it.
It actually feels like the knee pain I get when my shoes need to be retired, but it happened with two different pairs of shoes which each have less than 150 miles on them so I strongly doubt its the shoes.
And it only hurts when I run, so I'm really not sure what's going on. So that's why I don't think it's serious (if it was serious, it would hurt all the time) and I'm not sure if I need to rest.

After 6 days of rest, I will be attempting to run on my knee tomorrow. It's been okay walking, so I'm hoping running is okay too. Still trying to figure out what distance and course I want to do - needs to be something I can switch to a walk and still not be late for work (not that late for work is really a concept for me, but I want to have at least 1-1.5 hours to do work before my 11am meeting).

I'm also trying to decide if I want to order takeout for dinner. I have leftovers and I don't know how much I'll be home this week, but also I kinda want takeout. Adulting is hard, y'all.

Update: Takeout won. I just wasn't feeling like having the leftover rice. Some of that rice is in tomorrow's lunch, though, so I hope I'm feeling rice tomorrow.

Update: Knee started bugging me a bit at about 0.5 miles. I kept going to see if it was just the uneven surface or stiffness, but it wasn't any better by the end of mile 1, so I turned it into a walk. It hurt for a while on the walk but eventually (by the end of my coffee) was all good.
I don't think there's anything structurally wrong with it so I'm probably going to keep doing this "try to run and if it hurts, walk" thing for a little bit.

Are you foam rolling? My knee has been bothering me the last couple of weeks. I know that my quad is tight so i have been spending some extra time rolling. I will be honest my rolling had really fallen off the last 3 months with taking care of mallory. Mostly because if i was on the floor i wanted to be laying with her. I am trying to get back to my good foam rolling practice. I hate it but it helps.

Foam rolling does not agree with me. I do need to be better about stretching, though.

I am the same way about yoga. Pre pandemic did it once a week. I grew to not hate it but it is not my favorite thing. Barely able to go now because it was not fitting in plus Mallory 😞. Hoping I can get back to once a week. I know it helps but it’s boring and hard.

Knee Update: Ran twice this week with less pain - about 2.25 miles on Monday with manageable pain in the last 1.3 miles and 3.2 miles today with manageable pain on-and-off in the last mile and a half. Next run attempt is Friday, but I forgot to stretch after today's run so we'll see how that goes.

Anyway ... I probably got thoughts on Genie/Genie+ but I don't know what they are. I'm likely not going back to Disney in the foreseeable future because stuff, so I have time to form an opinion.

That Spiderman trailer makes me think that maybe I should make another attempt at the MCU.
(My last attempt ended badly after The Incredible Hulk, which I found fairly unwatchable)

To be fair, the MCU sort of pretends Incredible Hulk doesn’t exist 😆 The movies may vary in quality a bit, but overall, the MCU is a well-executed universe (in my opinion, anyway)

Well that makes sense, it was a pretty terrible movie.
I have been meaning to give the MCU another try, so maybe now is the time. But maybe I'll skip straight to Captain America because I think I might like that one (although maybe not because Nazis are a little bit too real of a villain for me).

Is there a machete order for the MCU? That might be what I need. Just reorganize it a bit and cut out the unnecessary movies.
