Let's try a "best tip or idea in one place" thread

When we went I only packed the 2 in 1 type of shampoo. Though I would save some space. Wrong, I found the water to be hazardous to my hair!LOL

This time it will be Infusium23! to the rescue!

Thanks for the other great ideas, keep 'em coming!

Is it January yet?

4u2 dream,

Vacatons can be somewhat hectic and stressful to plan. For those with children, don't forget their feelings and wants. Include them in the planning and what should be brought.

What a lovely and meaningful post. You are right! Sometimes we get so caught up in our own excitement and what we think will be fun we forget that children often view things much differently than adults.

We decided to drive rather than fly when my nephew insisted that he could not go on the cruise without his Fluffy. Fluffy is a huge stuffed dog that is almost as big as he is. He sleeps with it every night and it has gone everywhere with him. Since there was no way we could pack Fluffy and we would have had to bought an airline seat for it we are driving. I would rather spend the hours driving and have a happy boy than make him miserable by making him leave Fluffy home. I just hope DCL doesn't charge us for another cruise fare when they see the size of Fluffy:o

Thanks again for your post 4u2dream and all those who have given such great suggestions. I have written them all down and am going shopping tomorrow.

Pam

I haven't had a chance to write everything down yet, so I am bumping this to help me keep track of it.

Have a great time, hope your nephew and Fluffy enjoy themselves. It's difficult not to on DCL. All the best and let us know how things went when you return.

4U2Dream,

Thank you so much. I will let everyone know how we enjoyed the cruise. Only 2 more days until our first Disney cruise.:bounce: :bounce: We are all so excited!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Dreams really do come true!

Okay, I understand the concept of the over the door shoe holder to be used in the bathroom. I have even bought mine and it is in my "cruise suitcase".

Question, which bathroom door do you install it? Does one work better than the other? My thought would be inside the shower side because or lprivacy issues and that might be where things are used more.

Any ideas?

I may have to post this seperately, but I thought I would try here first.

WHAT A GREAT IDEA. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST THREADS. KEEP IT COMMING.:bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Momster,

I think most people put the shoe bag on the outside of the door. That way everyone can get to it even if someone is using the bathroom. You can put all kinds of things in it like: cameras, film, brushes, deoderant, room keys, hairspray, hair accessories, water proof key/money holders and anything else that would normally be put on a dresser or counter. It keeps your room much neater and you can easily see where everything is.

For the shower I have a mesh holder that hangs on the shower head. It has three rows of pockets. The bottom row has two pockets to hold shampoo and conditioner upside down. You don't even have to take them out, just open, squirt and close. I use the other two rows for shaving cream, shavers and body wash. It's especially good for when you will be staying at more than one place during your vacation. I just take it down and put it in one of those jumbo size ziploc bags and throw it in the suitcase.

We hung ours in the closet to hold small things out of the way (camera, sunblock, swim goggles, etc.). Our had a 'hanger' on top, so it just hung on the clothes rack. We got it at the Dollar store.

I haven't read the whole thread so maybe this isn't a new idea. We like to take a mesh laundry bag (Wal-Mart) and hang it in the closet (loop over the hanger) and put dirty clothes in there, when we pack, all the dirty clothes are together in one suitcase. Unpacking, all the dirty things are ready to be sorted and washed while the clean items are put away. Saves going through all the bags to gather laundry.

pluto judy....there was a discussion on pop up hampers, but not the one you mentioned..good idea!!!

I also thought of another idea that I had forgot to mention.....I used to always bring a few small bottles of perfume with me but now I don't.....I just go downstairs to Deck 3 by the clubs and "sample" the different perfumes that they have out for display!!! A different scent every night and I don't have to worry about perfume bottles spilling in my luggage!!!

They have all different scents for men as well!!!

Bring your own sandtoys for Castaway Cay! They are very expensive if you have to purchase them from DCL. Pack stuff in the buckets and you won't be losing any space in your luggage.

Just wondering where you got the mesh shower bag. That sounds like a great idea for home use too.
I like the idea of the shampoo already upside down.
Thanks for the tip.

BunnyV,

I was afraid somebody was going to ask me that. It was 2 years ago when I bought it. I know that I was looking for the shoe bag when I found it, so it must have been in the same area of the store. My guess would be Walmart, but that's just a guess. I can't find one online either. It looks a lot like this one http://www.spacesavers.com/showkinor.html Mine isn't as wide and has two reinforced holes on the bottom row so you can put shampoo and conditioner upside down in it. Sorry I couldn't be more help. I really thought I'd be able to find it online.

Thanks, it seems like I saw one in my travels. I will check Walmart, Target and Kmart as those are my only options :)
Would be great for at home, I would just need about 5 as I am a hairstylist and use several types of Paul Mitchell!
Will keep everyone updated if I find one.

bump :)

I have been making a list of all of these tips so i can make my packing list and idea sheets.

I found one at Big Lots today :)
There we two and out of their packages I just happen to pick it up to see what it was. It is not exactly like was explained but fits on teh shower rod -- I hope we have a rod and not a shower door-- and has four mesh pockets. Hope this works.
If you go to Big Lots just keep looking, it was back where you get the over the door shoe holder
Can't wait the 26th is coming fast!

I think I got my mesh shower bag at my local Shop Rite. Sometimes they have things in the laundry aisle that normally you would just walk by-take a look!

I haven't seen this one.....

A cutting knife for your room. A big help if you are traveling with small children. Great for fruit, chic nuggets, cheese, etc... Often the butter knives they send just won't do the trick and it seemed like every time we requested a sharp or steak knife with our room service it would be forgotten. We always carry one now.. it can be a real life saver.

AND........

Crayons, books and plain paper for kids during the down time in the room --- have them make a "picture" scrapbook for when they get back home!

Post it and pens for the room...... great to leave notes for family who "Cross like ships in the night....." or even your cabin steward....

Flashlights that only work while you are holding down the button (Walmart has them in cool colors) This solves the problem of the little angels falling asleep with the security flashlight on and going through a set of batteries every other night!

Large thick trash bags.. Put the dirty clothes in them when you get ready to go home.. gather up the top and hold tight.. have partner roll or smoosh from the other end to get the air out. The dirties take up much less room and no worry that they will infect your left over clean clothes or new t-shirts. I have not been able to find one of those airless travel bags that are large enough to handle all our laundry..... Also makes room for more stuff!!

Use label maker to tag everything that might leave the room... we got a disposable camera back this way..... Make and bring extra labels incase you forget something.

Have fun!!!
