Let's try a "best tip or idea in one place" thread

BIL had his 8 year old accidentally step on the back of his Teva sandals. He got an “atomic flat tire”, i.e., he broke the sole and strap of his sandals. Try buying a pair of sandals on board. Too bad nobody had any duct tape with them. I had some athletic tape that worked fairly well to hold the sandal together till the end of the trip, but duct tape would have worked better.

Also, bring an extension cord with multiple outlets if you bring way too much electronic gear as I do. With a white noise machine and a nightlight, I quickly run out of electrical outlets on the desk.

2 swimsuits for each person. You can wear one while drying the other. A must for any vacation if you like to swim.

A smile.

Jobro2- The cable ties are available at Radio Shack or Wal Mart in the hardware dept./electrical isle.

Earlier tipsters said to pack a nailclipper in an unlocked outside pocket of your suitcase to cut them off. Also, to leave some wiggle room (don't cinch it all the way) so that you can fit the clippers around the cable.

last post on this thread was over a month ago...thought it might be time to revive for some of the more recent cruisers to add their thoughts.

OK here goes for round 2:

Treat your clothing with wash-in sunscreen. It's cheap (under $3 a washload) and doesn't effect color or feel of the cloth. Works in water (swimming) too. The product is called Sun Guard from Rit.

Collapsible hamper....we found this to be very convenient for putting our dirty clothes in and carrying to the laundry room. Also these ID holders can be found at walmart for only .97.

You can fit some suitcases under the bed for more room storage...you just have to lift the bed frame a bit and then you can slide them under.

Make sure you leave a set of clothes out for debarking....people have been known to pack EVERYTHING the night before and leave the ship in their jammies!!!

Bring your sense of humor..... at some point something will not go as you planned or someone will do/say something that annoys you..... it's probably not the end of the world.

Just like my American Express card...... don't leave home without it.

For those of you traveling with toddlers around the age of 2 who can not go into the pool(and yes they are pretty strict about the non potty trained children in the pool) Bring sand toys, and set up camp by the Goofy pool. There is a railing that separated the pool area from the deck area. Along the railing on deck side are tables and chairs. Using the table, chairs, and railing, create a barrier. Place your child in the middle with sand toys and bucket of water. You can sit around them in the chairs. My son was completely satisifed with this set up and would play for hours.

Blowing off steam- All of us with toddlers know they need to run around, but on the ship it is hard to let them loose, so bring your young one up to the basketball courts(we did this every evening after dinner), and let them run around. The court is separated in two(basketball area, then I believe a soccer area). No one was every playing in the soccer area. My son would run around and have a blast. They are trapped in with the nets, so you don't have to be chasing them all around.

Where can I find spray on sun screen?

what is the best company for giftbaskets, that are delivered directly to the stateroom?

Thanks

Please explain the difference between hair braids and cornrows. My daughter wants to get the crown of her head done only. Thanks ahead!

Save your old socks, underwear, swimsuits, etc and have them make a one way trip with you.

By tossing out old clothes you'll have LOTS of room for souvenirs et al when you pack to come home.

You'd be amazed how much room socks and underwear alone take up in your bags.

These are great... thanks for bumping up.

Another tip I heard..... go to the bank before your trip and get $2 bills for tips for room service, etc.

These tips are GREAT!!! Thanks!!!

Someone left a tip on the board about taking the cheese in the can for snorkeling to feed the fish!!! The fish surrounded us as we fed them and the underwater photographers (Chankanaab at Cozumel ) take great pictures!!! But remember cash because they do not take credit cards!!!!

what a cool idea! wonder if stingray eat cheese whiz as well!

We were told not to take cheese whiz or any other foods to feed the fish as it upsets the ecology of the area and might harm :( the fish. One person in the group said that she would not ever want to eat squirty cheese so that would help her to remember not to feed it to the fish.

We did buy the soda mugs on the ship. Of all our souvineers, these are the ones we use the most. Every day on the ship the first one awake went to the deck 9 beverage station with both mugs and brought back coffee to the sleepyhead. Now that we are home, we do that too. I also take mine in the car for errands and work. A thermal mug with a lid and a DCL picture. What a great reminder of our cruise! :)

Definitely take.....

extension cord with mutiple outlets

disposable camera for your child to use

pillowcases for the characters to sign

small scrapbook for autographs. I use a small scrapbook instead of an autograph book so that I can have the picture on one side and the autograph on the other. I can also add as many pages as I want.

your own hairdryer...the ones in the cabins are weak

bungee cord or rope if you have connecting rooms. You need something if/when you want to keep the connecting doors open

soft sided cooler for excursions

Vacations can be somewhat hectic and stressful to plan. For those with children, don't forget their feelings and wants. Include them in the planning and what should be brought. Sometimes a special story at bedtime or snuggle for bedtime is all that is needed, but let them decide what they would like to bring. Especially on their first cruise, they are a little afraid or nervous. Try to make them feel as much at home as possible. A Disney Cruise can be a very rewarding experience for a youngster. At the sametime it can be a scary and emotional time. Allow them time to explore and take part in daily events that they are interested in. The Kids clubs are great, but not for all children. Some are just to shy and frightened to be left with strangers. Spend time with them at the clubs. Get them adjusted and used to the care givers before you have to leave them to go to an event. Remember them a bedtime. Kids need routine and comfort, especially at bedtime. Don't put them down for the night and then disappear. We have heard horror stories of kids waking up during the night and the parents not being there. Is a little night life entertainment by yourselves worth it? Not at your kids expense. If your children go with you on the cruise then it should be a Family Vacation. A Disney Cruise Vacation is truly magical and wonderful for all ages. Share it together and build many lasting memories, Especially in this time of War, hold your family close and remember how lucky we are! God Bless the American Troops and the Coalition! Hoping they get some Pixie Dust and less sand. :)
