Let's try a "best tip or idea in one place" thread

Love this thread. Thanks everyone for all the wonderful tips. :)

I was just curious because we have sailed with DCL since 1998 and every cruise everyone had to be off by 9:00 am. That is when we leave and never encountered any lines getting off the ship or in the terminal. By then most everyone is cleared out.

I got many tips, hints and ideas from these boards but by far the BEST was to bring the over the door shoe hanger thing! It was priceless for keeping all sorts of things organized. Everything from shampoo to cameras, hair brushes, lotions and potions! I will always travel with one from now on!
Oh- by the way- it is also great for storing shoes in! Both on the ship and when you return home!

One thing I didn't see on here that we always bring (especially if you have a verandah) is a small pair of binoculars. It's great for looking a passing islands, dolphins, etc. Be sure that the kids keep the cord around their necks when they're using them so they don't drop them overboard.

Here's a tip BEFORE you leave on your cruise:

* Arrange to have your mail held

* Stop your newspaper delivery

Don't want this thread to get lost. more disers might have more great tips. ;) :)

(1) Not sure what night to eat at Palo? My suggestion: go for the night you're in port at Nassau. We did that by accident, and had a glorious view of the Atlantis resort, all lit up at night! (We went in Dec, so it was dark throughout dinner.)

(2) On Castaway Cay, we came back from the adult beach to eat at Cookies. All around us people had tropical fruit on their plates. I went back to the buffet and looked and looked, but never found any! Figured they had run out. It turned out there was a fruit stand on the other side of Cookies, closer to the ship. By the time I found it after leaving lunch, I was already stuffed. Don't let it happen to you!

If you are a repeat cruiser on DCL, and are invited to the captains coctail party , then be sure to show up early. We showed up on time and did not have a comfortable place to sit down:(

but the hoursdervs were still quite yummy!!

Oh my goodness! I will need an extra suitcase for all of these great ideas! Thanks for posting them, I have a long list of items to shop for!

don't have the time to go back through all the posts to see if this one was listed, but i have a "must have" to add to the list if you have small kids.

when i was out purchasing stuff, i found OxyClean wipes and bought some. they are in small, individual packets and were a MAJOR lifesaver with our youngest DS enjoyed chocolate chip cookies (all over his new white t-shirt) at the club. the wipes took all the chocolate out...not an easy feat! i do so LOVE OxyClean!

you can find them in the laundry detergent aisle.

Only buy jewelery at the DCL recommended retailers as my father bought some "tanzanite" that upon appraisal when we got home was revealed to be FAKE....yup, $500 for two pretty purple pieces of glass....I would use a credit card too, because then the CC company would help you...

Thank you, Thank you!! I just spend 30 minutes reading every single post!! I am taking my first DC in October and now I know what to pack!! I am going to pack a seperate suitcase with all my goodies in it!!

Thank you for all of your posts!! They were all GREAT!!!

All these tips are great! I already bought an over-the-door shoe holder and a collapsable laundry hamper, and our cruise isn't until next February! I figure I will use them for our trips this summer. Anyway, there was another thread where one kind soul put all these wonderful tips together into one list. When I read it, I wasn't at a computer attached to a printer. Now that I have access to a printer, I can't find that thread. I really want to print out that list. Can someone help me find it?

Thanks,
bassoongirl

Just bumped it to the top bassoongirl- I printed it out too!

Thanks bothofus!

I just printed the list. Now I have to find a safe place to keep this list until our cruise next February!

If you bring alot of clothes that need to be hung in the closet bring extra hangers. They provide some but not nearly enough, at least for me. I love to keep in touch with people I have made friends with on board. So before I go I print out business type cards on my computer with; name, address, e-mail address. I drink ALOT of water when I am on the ship, I bring an extra tumbler in my suitcase so I don't have to get it refilled as often. The glasses on board are so small, last me about 20 min. If you smoke, in St Maarten the cartons of cigarettes are only about $13.00 so stock up. If you have trouble with stomach acid after a wonderful meal, bring Papaya Enzime with you. It works wonders on the stomach, helps digest food, cuts back on gas. Ooops. I always chew about 5 tablets before dinner and never have a problem.
