Let's Talk about Haunted Mansion

I love the Haunted Mansion. I think it's just about my favorite attraction at Disney World.

I love all the cob webs. :lmao:

I like the crystal ball with that lady's head in it.

I like that long hallway with all the doors trying to open.

I like the haunted mansion-type music.

I would rather go through the HM when it's dark outside, rather than daylight.

I like that I'm not scared going through it.

Awesome picture...the singing heads!

Anyone watch the 'history behind the haunted mansion'? It's fascinating.

And I love how it looks so different externally at Disneyland vs Disneyworld. Cool too how for the stretching room at DL, you're apparently really in an elevator descending.

DH and I LOVE HM. My favorite is ballroom dancers and when Grin Grinning Ghosts plays.

His favorite part is pointing out all the details he missed on previous rides and laughing his butt off anytime I jump or scream because I'm scared outta my wits. :rotfl:

Thank you for a happy thread! :)

Haunted Mansion is my all-time favorite ride at Disney! I love everything from the graveyard to the attic and everything in between! I generally ride it several times each visit but it is down for refurb next week when I will be there. It is scheduled to come back online Saturday 12/20 which is the day I leave and will be a very busy day at MK. Thankfully I have a late flight that day so I will be heading to MK that morning with plans on riding.

I love the fact that HM is FUN. Just plain, good 'ole fun. When you pass thru the attic, and The brides wedding pictures, I always anticipate the graveyard. I smile, and as soon as the doom buggy swirls and goes back I really smile. I always visit several times every visit, so I can sit and see left or right each time. also buying the soundtrack was fun too!
:goodvibes
The only part I dislike is now that I have experienced Nightmare before Xmas at DLR, I want everyone to enjoy it at WDW. :goodvibes

Yes! The Nightmare before Christmas overlay at DLR is amazing!!! However, I love the outside and cue of WDW's HM better. My favorite part is when the doombuggy spins around and goes down the little hill backwards. Oh, the anticipation of spinning back around...

The store is called Memento Mori and is located in the former Yankee Trader shop. :woohoo:

Thank you for the link...so it's right in Liberty Square. Really cool stuff. So upset I missed this as I would have so bought something...even if just a tshirt to show off on casual days at work (not that anyone would have a clue there as to what it meant). The bookends are really cool too...and the dinner plate floor plans (not that I could see DH using them :lmao: ). Well, if we ever return to DW, I will for sure be going to the store.

If you want to know how the ballroom scene is done, look up the trick called "Pepper's ghost" If you want to preserve the magic, don't!

I've been backstage with a cast member, and the whole ride is simply cool! The workings are magnificent. Again though, don't look up anything if you want to think there are 999 ghosts with room for one more!

My love for the HM started when I was 5 years old with the LP storybook and record. I did not know it was an actual ride until I met my husband in 1994 and he told me. We finally made it to WDW in 1998 and I have gone back to visit it almost every year since. I decorated my house in tribute this year...

Haunted Mansion has always been one of my favorite rides, ever since I was a teenager.

I love everything about it, but I think the ballroom scene with the ghosts dancing is my favorite part. And of course the "ghost rider" in the doom buggy with us. :)

I'm looking forward to riding a couple times at least on our trip in January. I do hope our granddaughter (she'll be 6) won't be scared though. I hope she loves the ride just as much as her grandma does. :)

And there is now a Haunted Mansion gift shop? Oh, can't wait for that!!!

I love EVERYTHING about HM! Its in my top 4 rides at MK. There are so many elements and different scenes that every time,I notice something different. It stopped once this trip for a few minutes in the wedding room and it was the first time I heard "Here comes the briiiiide". Its so creepy but I love it!

When we were in line this time they were telling everyone to keep moving and fill all available space, but of course, some people wouldn't follow directions. So the CM said, totally expressionless, "If the people in front of you don't move, assume they're dead and go around them" Appropriate, since we were about to enter a mansion full of ghosts, and also a way to hurry the sheep along in a lighthearted manner.

Fun thread!

I think the thing I love about it most is that it is scarily themed without relying on any nasty blood and guts. I like that there is nothing gross that you see like what the cheap haunted houses do around Halloween.

I never thought about it until you pointed it out, but I also love this about the attraction. I'm not into gory stuff either. I love that it really isn't set up to be super-scary/bloody. It's set up to be a fun and whimsical take on a macabre subject which is something pretty unique for a haunted house and not what you'd expect to see at all. I find more comedy in the ride than I do scariness. I love all those little comedic details hidden throughout it.

As far as my favorite part of the ride, that would be the Ballroom scene. I love watching the ghosts dance. It is just so realistic and magical. I think I could sit and watch them dance all day.

HM is our favourite ride in all of WDW.

I have a HM Dooney bag which I LOVE and some of Larry Dotsons prints as well lots of other things. I've loved the ride since I was a kid and I like the changes they have made by adding the attic scene etc.

I think my favourite bit would be the Ballroom scene so much detail and it's fun spotting the ghosts.

The new store is great and I'm glad they are showing HM more love than just the little stall they used to have. Be interesting to see what else they come up with merchandise wise.

Love reading all these responses.

It's the one Disney ride I remember from when I was a kid...and I love horror movies (not that HM is scary)...and it's my favorite ride, for all the reasons listed. I love how others love it too...and I think what's great about it, is that you can ride it over and over and each ride is different since you see new things.
