lesbians need not apply

So then the answer was no. :upsidedow

If you mean acceptance of continued sinful behavior by church members, the answer is no.

If you mean acceptance of sinners in the church, the answer is YES! Come join the rest of us redeemed sinners!

I mean as I said, the statements purported to be coming from Christ himself, not a given church, congregation, religion or any other group.

I'll pass. But, thank you for the invitation.

That's another concept that is somewhat suspect to me. No one can pretend to know the mind of G-d. If Christ is G-d, then no one can pretend to know his mind. No one then can know that they are redeemed until they arrive at a place where they learn their eternal fate.

All of that is based on the premise of belief in the mythology of christianity, of course.

It's almost funny how different two Christians can be. My pastor growing up had a sister who was a lesbian (he even performed a commitment ceremony for them back in the early 80's) and a son who is gay. They are some of the most spiritual people I know. He gave some of the most passionate sermons I've ever heard, was even the Leader of our high school church camp for the state. BUt, I guess we were all as un-Christian for accepting his son and sister amongst us, even though they were obviously born with a trait we weren't? Doesn't make sense to me. You can show me verses in the Bible all day, hold the beliefs you want. But, when those beliefs interfere with the basic rights our citizens of America, there's a big problem.

Sure we can. That's why God gave us His Word. Jesus said if you believe, you have eternal life.

I have no problems at all with homosexuality and do not think homosexuals will be denied an afterlife with Christ. I just do not see how denying admission to students to a private school equals HATE. It is their school and their rules. I said in a previous post that there are many reasons why students are denied admission to private schools and I do not see people yelling hate for that.Their basic right is that they are entitled to a free and appropriate public education and I can find nothing that says that right extends to private schools.

But this schools' action didn't interfere with these student's right, it interfered with their "privledge" and their choice of attending that school. They still had the right to their education elsewhere. I don't agree with the school's action but I do feel they were well within their rights.

First one who figures out why anything less then :cheer2: and applause for anything and everything people want to do equals hate, please give me a call.

The word "hate" has been overused in these types of situations to a point where it's nearly meaningless.

Jimmie is right-Jesus never said that we are to "tolerate" and "accept" unrepentant sinful behavior and he certainly didn't Himself. Like it or not, many believers (not only Christians) believe that homosexual activity is sinful behavior. It doesn't mean they HATE homosexual people. It means that homosexual behavior is not something that they want to do themselves, and they do not condone it in their schools or churches.

What did Jesus say to the woman who was being stoned for adultery? "Go - and sin no more"

He didn't say "Aww that's okay- It's just how you are." He said stop sinning.

Oh, ok. So I guess my cousin who has been in a long-term loving relationship with the girl of her dreams should break up with her and get into an unhappy, loveless marriage with a guy? :sad2: Yeah, good luck with that.

Oh, no, you're right, unfortunately. I'm more just commenting on the homosexual is a sin Bible thumper idea. As long as private schools are allowed by law to discrimintate, they were within there right if these two girls were lesbians. But, how they came to this determination is a little sketchy. A tattletale, a myspace page, and unsupervised questioning of two young girls is not appropriate in my mind either.

I think that you need to recognize, however, that there are hundreds of thousands of gay and lesbian people in the US alone who have genuine fear of being assaulted, losing their job, being harassed, and even murdered because of their sexual orientation. Even in progressive areas---like Washington, DC where I live---there has been a startling uptick in the number of anti-gay hate crimes.

I know people who live in rural areas of the country, areas that they grew up in and have known all their lives, who live in fear for their safety. One man in rural NC is cautious when going to his mailbox on the side of the road because of the threats and slurs he has faced from neighbors driving by. The excuse I often hear from straight people is that only the "rednecks" or "good 'ol boys" do things like that. Well, then why aren't decent people doing what they can to reign in the "rednecks" and "good 'ol boys" so that their gay neighbors can have a sense of peace and security?

Lastly, many (but certainly not all) Christian churches have done quite a bit to stoke the hate and fear of gay people. For decades they propogated the myth that gays are sexual predators and that they molest and "recruit" children. Some preachers and religiously-inspired politicians have compared consensual gay relationships to incest and beastiality. The phrase, "hate the sin, love the sinner" is truly hollow in the face of a juggernaut of hateful propaganda designed to marginalize an entire population and foster deeply discriminatory attitudes against them.

It's in the Bible! All have sinned.

But...but...but...
For myself, and anyone of like-minded thought, the bible is just a lovely storybook. Just because a book says something is so, doesn't make it so.

I could just as well hold up a copy of the Book of the Dead and proclaim something literal truth and instst that you all live your lives by it "Because Amon-Ra says it is so!!"

Sorry, but physical, tangible proof is needed... not 2 thousand year old mythologies.

Yes you are definitely right, and I completely agree.

Who says they haven't tried to "reign in the rednecks" and failed? You can't force stupid people into intelligence. No matter how many sermons are preached on "Love thy Neighbor" and "Do unto others", the only ones anyone seems to talk about are the fringe nutjobs like Fred Phelps. Yes, there are nutjob Christians, just like there are nutjob people everywhere else. I do not hold the entire Muslim religious population responsible for the actions of the hijackers on 9-11, and I doubt you do either. But it seems that you're completely comfortable with holding the entire Christian population responsible for the actions of criminals who do violence in the name of Jesus, or mangle his message to fit their own prejudice.

I believe that the paranthetical notation in the first sentence in my third paragraph makes it clear that I am not using a wide brush to paint all Christians.

But you clearly accuse in this sentence: "Well, then why aren't decent people doing what they can to reign in the "rednecks" and "good 'ol boys" so that their gay neighbors can have a sense of peace and security?"

And as I said-who says they haven't tried? By intimating that "decent people" which I took to mean "us Christians" haven't done enough to reign in the rednecks, you have placed us in the camp of Christians who stoke the fires of fear.

and frankly, when I saw your (but certainly not all) section I assumed you were referring to Christian churches that openly embrace active homosexuals. I figured that you were only exempting those churches who do not consider homosexual activity a sin.
