lesbians need not apply

First one who figures out why anything less then :cheer2: and applause for anything and everything people want to do equals hate, please give me a call.

The word "hate" has been overused in these types of situations to a point where it's nearly meaningless.

Jimmie is right-Jesus never said that we are to "tolerate" and "accept" unrepentant sinful behavior and he certainly didn't Himself. Like it or not, many believers (not only Christians) believe that homosexual activity is sinful behavior. It doesn't mean they HATE homosexual people. It means that homosexual behavior is not something that they want to do themselves, and they do not condone it in their schools or churches.

So...don't do it. :confused3 The gays aren't trying to snatch ya' up, I swear.

No one's asking you to "condone" anything. Just askin' for equal rights. :thumbsup2

Your asking them to condone it, when you say the girls shouldn't have been kicked out of the school actually.

but what does "equal rights" mean for those churches that believe homosexual activity is a sin? Does it mean that regardless of their beliefs, they must hire homosexuals or lose their tax exempt status? Does it mean that they must perform homosexual marriages? Does it mean that they must accept homosexual students in their schools? Will ministers that preach that homosexuality is a sin be censored? (that actually did happen in Sweden-the minister was arrested for "hate speech")

Judging by the reaction to this incident in CA, many would like to see churches and schools forced to accept and embrace active homosexual students, even though such activity is believed to be sinful-or have some kind of sanction imposed on them.

Acceptance and tolerance are two very different ideals, Master.* And disagreement (even vehemently so) does not equate to discrimination.* Hold your religious beliefs.* But, do not expect me to sit idly by when you use your beliefs to discriminate against others. Again...this is about civil rights.* When you use your beliefs to discriminate against others...I'll take issue.
Psst.... I didn't do anything, and for the record, my church ordains openly gay clergy as well as women, so I don't think they discriminate.
100% I might not agree with the Lutherans that run this school, but I dont "Hate" or discriminate against them either...:rotfl2:
Good :thumbsup2 I agree, not a fan of what they did, but they were perfectly within their rights to have done it.* That's the problem with those pesky EQUAL rights, every gets rights, not just those you agree with.

Gays are lesbians have to deal with discrimination constantly and are treated like second-class citizens in this country.

I know "it" is scary to you, but I promise you, the gays don't want ya'. :)

And again, your trying to make it personal on me. Show me where I have said that they should be discriminated against? That is not what I am saying, I am saying that a private church sponsored school has the right to do so, if they want. What I believe personally, and their right to take such actions can be mutually exclusive.

Maybe the churches could go back to preachin' in churches 'n leave education, medicine 'n other facets of business to the real world? :)

Equal rights translates quite easily to: homosexuals are given the same protections under the law in regards to discrimination as any other group in our country.

Gays and women???

Well, let's give 'em a cookie.

Really? So your rants against gay marriage, etc. were for what? More ridiculous show? More arguing for arguments sake?

This isn't some game, Master. I assure you...gays and lesbians don't argue for equal rights just for arguin's sake.

Why? Why shouldn't churches be allowed to have schools exactly? They have been doing so since before our country was a country.

And you would like to shut down things such as Texas Christian Hospital? Or a host of other Church funded hospitals where they develope new things that help everyone in the country.

How about those pesky food banks that the churches run that feed, the hungry, should they be shut down, or the homeless shelters they run etc....

Why should they? If it wasn't for Christian hospitals, millions of people would be shut out of health care. Many of those health care facilities are bringing care to the uninsured and the poor and paying for it out of donations. Why should parents have to send their children to public school when they want their children to have religious values as the foundation of their education?

If churches got out of the "real world" as you suggest, who is going to step in and do the good works that churches have been doing for generations?

Well, that's just it, gays don't have equal rights in this country.
We need a second class citizen so some of us can feel superior.
It's legal to discriminate against homosexuals because they're... homosexuals.

I have never ranted against gay marriage. I have stated that I don't believe gay marriage isn't going to be allowed in this country at this time, or any time in the near future, based on the way the general population feels, and their right to hold those beliefs. So, based on that belief how do we give them the rights they should have, my solution is to have the state stop sanctioning Marriage all together, have them sanction civil unions and leave the marriages up to the churches.

Please by all means show me where that is discriminatory.

Good people. :goodvibes
My food bank allows gays 'n atheists to work there. ;)

So is that a yes or a no to the questions I raised? If gays are granted equal rights will we be seeing lawsuits over marriages and ministers being taken out of churches in orange jumpsuits for preaching on the letters of Paul? Will we be seeing churches forced to employ openly gay people or face a lawsuit? :confused3

If you think that's ok, then reverse it. Should a Baptist who believes homosexuality is a sin be allowed to sue a gay rights organization for religious discrimination because they won't hire him?

Well as Goofy said, give them a cookie.

Do a google on Glide Memorial Church, take a look at all the nasty evil christian things they do for the city of San Francisco and get back to me on how terrible church sponsored charity is.

Will your food bank be able to handle the influx of hungry folks from all the religious affiliated food banks that you want shut down?

The sheer number of religion based organizations that do good things in this country would not easily be replaced. Sure, most of us who are committed to doing good work would probably move over to work in secular organizations that would have to be created -but why create that upheaval? Isn't it simpler and doesn't it help more people when we allow both to exist?

When you refer to gays and lesbians as holding equal rights in this country, as you have done, it's blind.

There is no equality in inequality.

And it is accepting the rampant and legal discrimination against homosexuals.

Not blind at all, just not in line with your beliefs.
