ETRIVERSIDE, Calif. – A California appeals court has ruled that a Christian high school can expel students because of an alleged lesbian relationship.

The 4th District Court of Appeal in Riverside on Monday upheld California Lutheran High School's right as a private, religious organization to exclude students based on sexual orientation.

Two girls sued claiming they were discriminated against after they were expelled from the Wildomar school in 2005. A lower court said the school isn't bound by the same anti-discrimination laws as a business establishment.

John McKay, attorney for California Lutheran, says the school's goal is to educate based on Christian principles.

The attorney for the girls could not be immediately reached Tuesday.

God must be so proud

:sad2: Yeah proud indeed :sad2:

With that kind of intolerance, would they even want to stay? What a shame.

:sad2:
Just yesterday in my son's school a teacher joined the gay and straight alliance(as a lesbian) to show support to those students. Being a role model is something to be proud of.

That school has nothing to be proud of.

Unbelievable. Being a gay teenager must be so difficult as it is, and then the school does this. Just because they have a legal right to do this doesn't make it right.

:sad2: What an absolutely sad example to set for these children. We have four children and I would rather have all 4 be gay and happy than straight and miserable! I can't imagine sending my children to school somewhere that would promote this kind of intolerance:confused3

yes he is.... acting in his good name they are.... because we all know how discriminatory God was

Private schools have rules that differ from public schools and they are allowed to have them. There are rules for the faculty and rules for students that do not exist in the public arena. I taught in a Christian school and I had to sign a code of conduct as a part of my contract. I was not permitted to act in a manner that was inconsistent with the Christian values espoused by the school. I was married, but one of my friends was single and she had to be very circumspect about dating. Our students were not permitted to engage in "PDA's", they wore uniforms, there were strict restrictions on behavior. If our teens were dating, there was to be no behavior on school grounds that would announce that relationship-no kissing in the hallways before class, no hand holding.

My guess is that the rules for this school were probably similar, and the girls were indiscreet about their relationship. Otherwise, nobody would have known and it wouldn't have been an issue.

No I imagine the problem was they weren't a boy and a girl....

It's "their school" run by their tenets. The girls are best off knowing that they are not wanted by that particular group so they can get on with their lives with people who do care about their lives.

Religious organizations do have the right to control who they provide their services too.

Better for the gay youth of our society to realize that many religious organizations do not love them like they (the organizations) love themselves. :confused3

It's probably not the first of many hard lessons the young women will learn.

If the position of this particular religious group is not something you condone, then I'd respectfully suggest you not do anything to demonstrate support for this organization overall. If you are a member of that particular religious faction, leave. Find a more tolerant religious organization to join. If it's not your organization at all, then find a way to express your disgust in a viable social context.

Many folks disregard the power of letter writing. Folly. Letters to governing bodies of religions, companies, states, counties, etc. are powerful in their own right.

Thank you for sharing this information, by the way. I find it quite important for the many discriminating incidents that all gay people experience on a daily basis to consistently be held up to public scrutiny.

I'll remind us that gay teens are the second largest group to commit suicide.

Organizations such as this one don't help reduce that statistic.

MagicKindomlvr, I'd imagine the girls were honest and refused to present themselves to the school as something they weren't. I'd not rush to assume indiscretion. :guilty:

Really? They're killing people for not following like the *real* Taliban does?

I am sorry...did I say they were killing people? No I did not.

I am saying their beliefs against gays are consistent with the Taliban beliefs which is .....being gay is not allowed in "their society".

There is a Christian fringe out there. If you can't see that you are blind.

In some ways that can be interpreted as a yes. If their religious position is intolerance, and pushes gay youth away, then those youth may well consider suicide (and be successful). So yes, in the sense that they contribute to the emotional distress that a gay teen experiences, and makes that stress worse, they can be seen as having some level of responsibility for the death of those youth who cannot make it to the level of self acceptance that any person needs to have to be considered emotionally healthy.

I wouldn't equate the Taliban with the Christian fringe. But you can if you want.

Suicide...You might want to catch "Prayers for Bobby".

Murder....You might want to read up on Matthew Sheppard.

:sad2:
