(You're right, skimpy bikinis were not, but breastfeeding was)
I always used a cover when BFing my girls in public, because I could. To say that a mother is being disrespectful because her baby won't is not cool. Let's say we are in a restaurant & you eat with your mouth full, talking the entire time & I just think that's incredibly rude manners, so I ask the manager to tell you to either put a blanket over your head, or take yourself to the bathroom...so you can sit on a toilet & eat your food. When you refuse, I just think that is so disrespectful. Stupid? Right. Ridiculous? Right. If I don't want to see your food in your mouth, then I should just stop staring at you & look the other way? Right.
As for the flashy feeders, I've encountered a few of those myself, & although that isn't necessarily what I would do in public, by the time they unbuttoned their shirt & latched their baby on, it was usually a matter of seconds & with the baby on I could see as much of her boob as I could if she was walking down the beach in a bikini top. Sometimes less. I live in a beach town & I've seen plenty more boob on a summer's day at the beach than I EVER have from a breastfeeding mother. Strange thing though...I've never heard anyone complain at a restaurant that they would like that 20 something girl to put another top on........hmmm...
