LAST-TO-POST #13 Calling all Posting Gals and Guys of the Lasting Kind.....

Yes, and they don't want me because I have no office experience. My experience is in grocery retail, resort, housekeeping, and health care.

Ugh! Back when I first entered the temp market, they didn't require any experience, just that I knew how to type was fine. My first temp job (at age 18) was stuffing mailers at the Universal Studios mailroom for their new A-Team Live Action show. :lmao:

I'm not even sure how I got office experience...I think through the temp agencies. Things are different now I guess. :headache: Sorry, something good will come for you. I'll send psychic messages for you, my mom does it and seems to think it helps.

Ugh...I'm LASTing on a train that is stuck behind a broken down train. I think...we're moving now...

What kind of train do you commute on? Is it like our CalTrain or Amtrak?
And I am sorry that you were delayed by that problem train.

Tiring but good. Get a proper induction tomorrow.
Not thrilled I'm seated next to a smoker who is one where it really lingers...but...oh well.
Project is tedious but doable.

Can you move to a different seat? Or ask him to please not smoke or else it might get ugly?
Nearly at the station.

Teriyaki Salmon with Stir Fry Vegetables

Tonight’s dinner is Teriyaki Salmon with stir fry vegetables, inspired from Alison's dinner and pictures the other day. :)

My starting ingredients:

For the salmon:
  • Salmon cutlets, one per person
  • Teriyaki Marinade – 2 tablespoon each of soya sauce, brown sugar, sherry mixed together.
  • Oil
Place the salmon cutlets in the marinade and allow to sit for at least 45 minutes.

For the stir fry:
  • Broccolini, 1 bunch, cut into pieces
  • Chinese Cabbage, 4 leaves, sliced with the stems separated from the leafy part
  • Chinese Flowing Cabbage or Choi Sum, 1 bunch, cut into pieces with stems separated from the leafy part
  • Oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon
  • Soya sauce, 1 tablespoon
  • ginger, sliced
  • Oil
  • Sesame Oil
Remove the salmon from the marinade and transfer the marinade to a pot. Cook the marinade on a low boiling simmer for 5 – 10 minutes.

To cook the salmon, heat oil in a pan or wok and fry for about 3 minutes on each side.

Remove from heat when cooked.

To cook the vegetables, heat the oil and sesame oil and fry the ginger.

Place all the vegetable stems in the wok and quickly stir fry for about 2 – 3 minutes.

Then add the leafy bits of the vegetables to the wok and toss quickly.

Pour the sauce into the wok and mix through the vegetables.

Allow to cook for another 2 minutes.

Place the salmon on a plate with some vegetables and spoon some of the reduced teriyaki sauce over the salmon.

My dinner!

That just looks so delicious! Yum!
ooo....love terriyaki. It's very dangerous me working in the middle of the CBD now.......too much nice (and expensive) food around........ :lmao:

I agree! I love terriyaki too.

Some animals...

Feathertail Glider. The smallest of the gliders. He is shuddering in my hand licking it (they like the sweat....and it was a hot day...so he was having fun :rolleyes1 )

Happy Memorial Day!

Thank you for sharing your pictures. I love them. The animals are so cute. My father had visited parks like that in Australia. I cannot remember the name of the animal park right off. But anyway, it looked like a really nice park too. The little glider is just so cute too.

So here's my "All American" Memorial weekend dinner for Sunday night. I had planned on making Egg Foo Yung for dinner, but after eight hours of moving crap, I opted for something easier!

I just grilled the dogs, whipped up the cole slaw and corn is just coming into season, the beans were from a can. Easy-peasy! I had one dog, Fran had two. Neither of us finished our beans and cole slaw, so we'll have those with the grilled TriTip tonight.

That looks very tasty indeed.

Just got a call back from the bridal salon... I didn't get it

I am sorry that you were not given an opportunity to show the salon the kind of really great work that you do and are capable of. That is their great loss.
Not yours, believe me.

I know... It's just really frustrating, because NO ONE will hire me. That was the first interview I've had that wasn't out in the suburbs.

No, that is not true. For you had worked for Disney for a long time. And other jobs too. So you see, people do hire you. It is just a matter of obtaining the job that is right for you now. Believe you me, jobs that don't last or that do not work out, or that one is not hired for is a result of it not being the right fit for one, or that no longer is.

Ugh! Back when I first entered the temp market, they didn't require any experience, just that I knew how to type was fine. My first temp job (at age 18) was stuffing mailers at the Universal Studios mailroom for their new A-Team Live Action show. :lmao:

That sounds like fun...

Unfortunately, these days, and for awhile now, if one does not have not so much office experience, although sometimes that too, but rather office skills, you can forget about being hired for such position. If one obtains this skill set, then you might just have a fighting chance. Otherwise, not so much, and to say the least as well. Also, there are so many people that are either looking for full time work or a second job that are highly skilled and experienced office workers, that the rest of us can just about forget it. Again, though, only until one works on becoming as updated in these office skills. Now if you can find or make an opportunity for working in an entry level office position, that would be most ideal.

And round we go....to get experience I need a job...if you won't hire me how do I get the experience :headache:
But as Gisele says...the are highly skilled people wiling to do even menial roles to get extra money....or any job...so there aren't many entry positions being hld by entry staff.

Our trains are sort of like Amtrak for some...but they have 2 levels.
They are high capacity commuter trains for the intercity network.

Those photos are from Taronga zoo in Sydney.

Sigh...back to work...sooooooo tired

D Firefly,

Did you ask why the salon had decided to go with someone else? More and more I ask this question. I do not always receive either an answer though or the real reason. It drives me a bit bonkers.

Gisele,
Thanks for the compliments!

In the future, if you could take the photos out of your quotes when you repost, I would appreciate it. My bandwith on Photobucket is reaching it's maximum and the more times that my photos are displayed the closer it get to being full and then I will not be able to show them in my TR.

Queenie, hope things with the new job are OK!

But that does not mean that they had to hire her instead. Not at all. Once interviewing is completed all together, then HR will make their decisions.

They were already set on hiring her, they only interviewed me in case her last reference didn't come through.

I see, well that does make sense. But still, they should have hired you instead.

He's keeping me on file. He said he liked me, so if something opens up, he'll give me a call. I'm calling around to places I applied at last week to check on them tomorrow.

No, sorry for the confusion, my one post was in regards to Allison's post about band with.

Kristine

Oh well...hopefully you'll get one of them.
Mentioning references what kind of references do you have? Just curious? Did you get one from Disney at all?
I've got one that's very nice from my old boss...because of the terms of me leaving. But other than an old character one I don't use any others and I've never been asked for anymore.

Today was ok. Finished one task for now...it will be back though as sommmmebody has to do cross-referencing :lmao: there's a few funny things going on...
But it's an ok job. How they coordinate this stuff though is crazy. There's offices in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth also working on it. In Sydney there's 10 of us. It's just huge.

Ah well...certainly a learning experience. ::yes::
Will be home in about 20mins assuming the train doesn't break down......

Just got home myself with enough time to shove some food in my mouth and then we are running out the door....DS is having a guitar lesson.

Should be home again in an hour...physically....who knows mentally?

Night shift might have been a bit slow tonight....

Alison - loved the hot dogs! You've got me dreaming of one now.

Good night all...happy lasting.
