Matthew had a soccer game tonight and I really had to rush to get him there on time. We got there...and the other team had to forfeit because they were short one player. They did decide to play a scrimmage game. So at least I still got to sit out in the cold 36 degree air to watch the game. :lmao: I can't complain though because Matthew did score a goal, his first this season! And his team won the scrimmage game 2-1!! :cheer2:

We left the game and were heading to Walmart. I was making a right turn from one of the busiest roads in the city, turning uphill. I got into the intersection and there was a horrible screech, sort of like when you slam on your brakes and the tires squeal. And then I couldn't move the steering wheel. I thought maybe I had a flat tire. So I got out to check. Driver's side was fine. Walked around the front of the van and looked at the right front tire. Well, I was trying to turn right and that front tire was turning left!!!!

I called DH and asked him to send a police car since I was blocking the turn lane in the intersection. Then I called AAA! They got all the info and told me a tow truck would be there within 45 minutes!!

Two city cops got there. Talked to them. They called in to see how long it would be until the tow truck got there. Tow truck company now says an hour and a half! One cop says I can't stay there an hour and a half so they'll have to call another wrecker company. (Our county does have the choice of two!) They get there within five minutes. But it's going to be $60!

The tow truck driver was nice enough to tell me that he could straighten the wheel out enough for me to back into a parking lot (going forward was out of the question). He helped me get backed up so I'm out of traffic and can wait for the free towing from AAA. (I thought that was extremely nice of him!)

AAA's tow truck company calls my cell phone to inquire about whether the van is 4 wheel drive. Says they'll see me shortly. I ask what "shortly" means and he says an hour and a half or an hour and 45 minutes!! It's already been half an hour.

I call Dh (again) and he says forget it...he'll get the other two truck company back out there and we'll pay the $60!

We still end up waiting 45 minutes for that two truck company because they've gotten another call.

Meanwhile DH shows up and sits with me (he's doing some off-duty work tonight so he was just leaving the house as this happened).

Matthew got very upset and scared so I had to calm him down.

But I remained amazingly calm, especially for me!

Looking back over the incident, though, I guess Friday the 13th wasn't that bad. Maybe I can actually look at it as a lucky day.

The tie rod for the front tires snapped in two. I was just starting off from a complete stop when it happened.

It could have been so much worse. I could have been travelling at a high speed and totally lost control....I could have been in a major intersection and lost control and hit someone or have been hit. As it was it was a major inconvenience, a tow bill and a repair bill. But we're all okay.

So, maybe Friday the 13th is my lucky day after all! :sunny:

The one thing that the "major inconvenience" has done is made me not able to work at the campground tomorrow. DH has volunteered to put up campaign signs for the sheriff tomorrow and he'll need the truck. So, I'm thinking I may tag along with him for a little while.

Tomorrow night there is a Homecoming Dance for "Special Populations." A.J. is going and he is very excited about it. Matthew and I are doing a dessert tray and are going two hours early to help set up the food. DH was going to bring A.J. but since we're down to the one vehicle A.J. will have to go with Matthew and I.

Sorry it happened but You have the right outlook

Definatly a LUCKY DAY
when you think of what might have happened

slow night around here-and I can't sleep, I hate this insomonia stuff :sad2:

I can't find a pair of pants I took while we were on vacation in WI-I know I unpacked them-I just can't find them now and I need them for the interview on Friday- I wonder where the heck I put them :scratchin It's been driving me crazy and most likely the reason I can't sleep

Plus our Realtor called last night-the owner of this house is suppose to fix the driveway-it's cracked severly and the retaining wall(20ft high) is about to fail-she offered us to reduce the price of this house if we're interested in buying

Hello-she'd have to reduce it a whole lot more-since that's not the only thing wrong with this house

-The lot is mostly unuseable currently and would need lots of work to make it useable

-the wall in the garage(side buried in the dirt) is black and moldy-plus it's smeely in the basement-nearly unuseable for home storage

-and the 2 1/2 story deck needs to be replaced since it's so damaged!!!

and I could go on, we like the layout of this house -it's becoming comfortable, but I can't see buying this house in this condition for the price she wants-so most likely we will buy a different house, with a master BR on the main, those darn steps are killing me

so add that to the list as to why I can't sleep-but I'm going to try and head to bed now(or soon) since I work tonight and could use more than 4 hrs sleep

Your body's too used to working night shift, isn't it?? DH gets like that. But he switches from day shift to night shift every two weeks. So just about the time he's getting used to one shift and sleeping accordingly it's time to switch!

Wow! I'm impressed! If I needed a pair of pants for Friday I wouldn't even think of looking for them until, oh, maybe Thursday night! :lmao:

Hope you're getting a little good sleep by now!

Well, since I can't work at the campground today (gee, what a shame :sad2: ) I am going to tag along with DH this morning and help put out signs and hand out flyers for the sheriff. Never thought I would be the type to go out campaigning! But we've got a real vested interest here!

See you all later.

I just talked to Kelli!!! She's half way through today's walking distance. I told her we were all rooting for her!!!
