Las Vegas with teens

Agreed. I've only been 2 times, with another trip coming up (all work related trips). I'm no prude, but at 48 I'm not sure I'm old enough to go there :rotfl2:

My husband and I (early 40s) LOVE Vegas, but when we go, it's absolutely a weekend of debauchery. We cringe whenever we see kids walking around the strip.

Yup we did and it was an amazing trip. My kids have been to every province in our beautiful country. Last summer we did go out your way to the mountains. Just looking for a cheap, short trip over spring break and we aren't big AI people. We are doing our long postponed DL trip in summer 2022 so trying to keep things cheap.

Getting TO Vegas might be cheap, but not much else there is. Consider that.

I was thinking the same thing. There are always economical flight and hotel packages available from Western Canada but from there on in it’s $$$.

See, I don't know why everyone is saying "nothing's cheap" in Vegas - everything I've booked (except high tea, which is cheaper and more possible than going to London right now) has been cheap or equivalent compared to the Orlando trip I just took. Groupons, Go City's, lunch specials, GovX (since I'm a vet), deals galore are around for the taking right now.

Yes, if you buy onsite at attractions/shows/meals (which you get stuck with b/c of no walk ups at cheap deal places), you're likely gonna look at a pricey vacay...but if you buy in advance, you can make it a very reasonable trip...

Maybe it's because I've learned to find deals thanks to the Disboards - I was well trained to go elsewhere:)...

I'm not sure when your spring break is, but keep in mind that Vegas is the desert. Temperatures over 100 degrees are common in the late spring/summer/early fall months. We don't consider trips there between April and mid-October for this reason. I suggested pool time up-thread, but when temperatures are that high, a pool day is not even enjoyable.

There are inexpensive things to do in Vegas. Maybe not like the $5 breakfast buffet (complete with beverages) that I remember from 2006 at a downtown casino-hotel, but not everything has to be at one of the fancy hotels. The last time I was there on a business trip, I talked to our sales rep (who live in the area) what he recommended for a good buffet. He said locals tend to go to places like The Orleans. However, he might have been partial to places that have local discounts.

Sure most of the stuff there is for adults, but having talked to a lot of locals, there's plenty of stuff that's available to those who don't want to gamble or engage in other vices.

The one thing that might be cool is the Ethel M factory in Henderson.

March.

As for expensive we won't be fine dining. It will be mostly fast food and casual dining.
Some days will be sleeping in, sitting by the pool and checking out the sights in the evening. I doubt it's going to break the bank.
Maybe one prebooked show.

But right now I'm leaning to NOLA over LV.

Sure. A lot of people live in the Vegas area, so there's no lack of places that locals go to that don't charge casino-hotel prices. As long as you have a car, you can get supplies at Target/Walmart and go dining at Chili's/Applebees or the like. I personally recommend the Chili's 3 for $10 menu, especially if they have a limited time special like steak or fajitas. It's pretty reliable anywhere, although not all locations will have these specials.

To me Vegas is about the casinos, gambling, legal marijuana, topples girls on the street, restaurants, and night time shows. It’s not a place to take anyone under the age of 21. The Hoover dam is cool, but don’t plan a vacation around it LOL

A lot of people think that, but there are families that live in the area and they've managed to figure out what to do with their families. It's certainly the number one place in the world for trade shows. I've been there many times and have yet to see a topless woman on the street.

The casinos and The Strip aren't necessarily the ideal place for children, but I've managed to make do there when my kid was younger. We saw family friendly shows and enjoyed the dining. It's also a pretty good central location for exploring more than just Hoover Dam. We went to the train museum in Boulder City as well as a Death Valley when it wasn't that warm.

I've only ever been there for conventions - and both times saw topless women on the strip! Around 7 in the evening!
Headed back in Feb., we'll see if occurs for a third time!

:wave2:Hi OP - have you taken the family to Niagara Falls before? It’s a short jump for you in the other direction and has a lot of the same cheese as Vegas with none of the vice. The falls themselves are splendid, the lake region is very beautiful to day trip around and it’s in driving proximity of Marineland, Wonderland and African Lion Safari. Just a thought. Have fun whatever you do - so, so happy we can vacation again.
Thinking that many of those attractions won't be open in March anyhow.
If you can think of anything else that teen boys would like in Canada in March let me know. I'm out of ideas. We just want to go somewhere over spring break. Probably our last spring break getaway with our oldest as he will be on a college schedule the following year.

We could do DL over spring break rather than wait for summer. Debating that.

Chicago in March? Figure some things there will be seasonal - Navy Pier. etc. Maybe?

NOLA will have as many "adult behavioral problems" for teens as Vegas will in March, since that's the heart of Mardi Gras season. Just so you're aware. I think you should stick to your 1st plan b/c you picked it for a reason:)...

I thought about recommending Chicago - certainly lots to do that is family friendly, but the weather is inclined to be dicey in March. Same with Boston. In fact, I'd prefer Boston to Chicago as far as stuff to do. Have you been to Montreal? We live in Buffalo and have a lot of friends that like to make the drive there. I'm not sure what there is to do, but we have friends with families that have gone for long weekends and really enjoyed it.

Another US city I love is Atlanta. CNN headquarters tour, huge aquarium and zoo, Coca Cola headquarters tour, amazing dining, usually an easy flight. Just throwing it out there!

I checked the dates for Mardi Gras and they were mid February-early March for 2022.
Really was no 1st plan. Just debating where to go. And I'm not that worried about shielding my 18 year old college son from any "adult behavioral problems". Lol.

that’s great, and there are families that live in my area too and we have plenty of family fun, But I wouldn’t recommend anyone planning entire vacation around visiting good old Langhorne PA.

Yup been to Montreal a couple times as have the kids. Love it there.
I do want to do a Washington DC trip sometime so maybe that's an option. Atlanta is a good suggestion too !
I just love exploring a new city.
