Las Vegas with teens

We took the kids there kind of. We flew in there for trips to parks - grand canyon, valley of fire, zion, etc. We spent an afternoon in Vegas on the tail end of the trip, after we finished our other activities and before our flight the next day. The kids had a fine time, and I'm sure we could have occupied them there for longer if we wanted to. I liked the parks better.

My niece took her little kids and they had a ball. They went kayaking by the dam, went to Death Valley, valley of fire, and a state park which the name escapes me. They also saw the bellagio fountains and other sights on the strip. They did not stay on the strip. Older kids could do all these things as well. I know my kid would like it. We went once for 2 nights as a jumping off spot for the Grand Canyon, etc. we could easily have spent more time there.

It’s be a much cheaper vacation for us than Disneyland (and we are on the west coast) and I think my kids would have a blast. I’m overwhelmed and overstimulated after about three days, but there are lovely pools and amazing things to see there-and some really good food.

I think there's plenty to do AROUND Las Vegas that would could easily fill 5 days... and if you're "pool people," there are some nice ones. They do have attractions that are suitable for families but there are similar attractions (mini golf/top golf, escape rooms, etc) in other cities.

We flew into/out of Las Vegas for a 10-day trip several years ago (I think my kids were 13 and 17). It was more of a National Parks trip than a "trip to Vegas" though. We did Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion national parks) and began/ended in Las Vegas. At the beginning of the trip, we did not stay on the strip and Las Vegas was pretty much like any other city. At the end of the trip, we stayed on the strip for 2 nights. We went to the Blue Man Group show and the kids loved that -- and we walked down the strip to see some of the other hotels and stuff and that was pretty interesting. However, there wasn't all that much that interested the kids that wasn't $50+/person (indoor skydiving, etc.) And we were not expecting the amount of indoor smoking that still happens in Las Vegas -- I think it made all of us a bit sick.

So all in all, we had a wonderful trip, but "the strip" was not anybody's favorite part.

No. Las Vegas is not synonymous with "family vacation" in any way and at this time, there isn't enough to do if you don't gamble. It's a great adults getaway spot, but I would never bring my teen boys there.

Agreed. I've only been 2 times, with another trip coming up (all work related trips). I'm no prude, but at 48 I'm not sure I'm old enough to go there :rotfl2:

A question.....

I have not been there for quite a few years. Are the porn slappers still plying their trade on the Strip?

Walk to the LinQ with giant Ferris Wheel and a Ghirardellis and In&Out Burger and don’t forget Earl of Sandwich in Planet Hollywood!

This is old school casino game that can be played and observed from a distance for teens cause you can walk past it…and stand nearby…

This one is at the Bellagio but can be found in most of the casinos! Fun!

If there are teens and the parents are not gamblers, what would make them want to go to Vegas? I think there's things that would keep the group occupied and they could still have fun, but they would not be enjoying the things that Vegas is known for which makes it the destination people want to visit. We spent a week in Vegas right before the pandemic, but that was long for us. We usually spend 4-5 days and we're also gambling and drinking. I think 4-5 days could be too long for a group that's not out drinking and gambling.

Lots of suggestions here already but things that came to mind for me are Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, rides at the Stratosphere and Circus Circus, High Roller ferris wheel at LINQ, any of the shows like the Cirque ones but some are more adult-oriented than others, wax museum at Venetian, shark reef at Mandalay Bay, rollercoaster at NYNY, hockey/football game depending on time of year, fountains at Bellagio, Eiffel Tower observation deck at Paris, flamingos at the Flamingo, volcano and Secret Garden at Mirage, neon light museum, loads of shopping at various points on the strip. Lots of these things are free too.

Another option would be to book a hotel that has a chill pool area - we last stayed at the Venetian and got a cabana at the Palazzo pool. Both pool areas were quiet and family oriented, a couple of kids around. They were not the day club/party pools like you'd find at other resorts. It would be a relaxing time to sleep in, do a breakfast/brunch, spend the day at the pool, and then do activities/dinner/show in late afternoon and evening. I still think there's better vacation destinations for that dynamic, but this could be enjoyable too.

We brought our older kids once, I wouldn't recommend it. There is stuff to do but it is extraordinarily pricey, everything there is about keeping you in the casino so anything that would invite an alternative way to spend your time is financially punishing IMO, research before you go and know what you are jumping into.

:wave2:Hi OP - have you taken the family to Niagara Falls before? It’s a short jump for you in the other direction and has a lot of the same cheese as Vegas with none of the vice. The falls themselves are splendid, the lake region is very beautiful to day trip around and it’s in driving proximity of Marineland, Wonderland and African Lion Safari. Just a thought. Have fun whatever you do - so, so happy we can vacation again.

When I was there early June masks weren’t required anywhere except the pinball museum, and if you showed the owner you were vaccinated you didn’t have to wear one there either.
Afterwards go to this nearby Open 24 hours…

Love that place! Looking forward to going back soon. I’ve only been for breakfast, but I want to check out the lounge one night.

Yes but the ones we encountered weren’t aggressive about it

Yup we did and it was an amazing trip. My kids have been to every province in our beautiful country. Last summer we did go out your way to the mountains. Just looking for a cheap, short trip over spring break and we aren't big AI people. We are doing our long postponed DL trip in summer 2022 so trying to keep things cheap.
