Just wondering if you can taste a lot of aclohol in the Lapu Lapu drink served at 'Ohana? I had heard that this was something that you should try but I'm not a big alcohol drinker.

Thanks,

Joy

Yes, when I went in april my wife got one(I got a Ohana Coolata). all we could taste was the alcohal in the lapu lapu. she also preferred the coolata I got. :hyper:

I disagree with tasting the alcohol. I'd worry more about how you'll feel due to the amount of alcohol.

I tried it twice...it is way too sweet for me but I don't like sweet drinks. I don't remember a strong taste of alcohol at all but it is a BIG drink. It is tasty (which is why I tried it twice) as well as very pretty.

I would not drive after one of these!

Love the lapu lapu :lovestruc .
I think it tastes more fruity than anything. You can definitely tell there is alcohol in it but it is not strong tasting.

Hello!

I do like strong drinks but for some reason did not like the Lapu Lapu. My favorite is Tradewinds. They do have really good drinks at Ohana/Tambu Lodge.

And you can order the same good drinks at Kona.

What's in a Tradewinds, RC Fan?

Hi BCV23!

I wish I knew!

I recall it is a blend of several different rums including I think coconut rum, as well as a touch of blackberry liqueur. These various liquors are then combined with the Ohana/Tambu Lodge Pina Coloda mix. It has to be the best mixed drink I have ever had. Can't wait to have another!

Thanks.....sounds exotic!

The lapu lapu is topped off with a shot of Myers Dark Rum, so yes, you can taste the liquor!! (They are very good though) :)

Here are the two recipes if you want to see what's in it:

POLYNESIAN RESORT LAPU LAPU

1 ounce Myer's Rum
1/2 ounce Bacardi 151
Scorpion Mix (consists of half-and-half sour mix and orange juice)
Enough ice to chill it, crushed so it fits in the pineapple
Garnish: Cherry

Served in: Hollowed fresh pineapple, the pineapple stem is the lid with a small wedge removed so a straw can be inserted. Cut the leaves off the stem and reattach to the "lid" using a shortened toothpick. Make a slice off the bottom of the pineapple so it will sit upright properly and not tip over. Yes, this means the bottom will be moist and sticky.

POLYNESIAN RESORT LAPU LAPU NON-ALCOHOLIC VERSION

Scorpion Mix (half-and-half sour mix and orange juice)
Enough ice to chill it, crushed so it fits in the pineapple
Garnish: Cherry, orange wedge, any other fruit AND a cocktail paper umbrella (the paper umbrella differentiates the non-alcoholic from the alcoholic versions of the drink, so the family or group won't mix up who gets what)

Thanks everyone for your info.

Margie J,

Thanks for the recipes. Knowing that I'm not fond of the taste of liquor, the recipe for the non-alcoholic version sounds very good. I might just try that.

Thanks

Hi Margie J!

Do you by chance have any of the other drink recipes from the Polynesian?

I got a virgin strawberry daq. for my kids. They put it in what is now called our funky monkey. It's a coconut with a monkey face carved into it. It was about 15.00 I think a little $$$ but the kids love it. He sits on a shelf in our family room. A wonderful reminder of a fantastic trip. Try one!!

Then there is always the blue hawaiian, Yum!!!:)

Wonderful recipes! I have been thinking about trying the lapu lapu; I have tried the Kona sundown and another one....can't remember the name now.

Any chance anyone have the recipe for veggie spring rolls at Kona? I LOVED them!

Many of the cocktails can be made without the booze. The non-alcoholic pina coladas are my favorite! Just aske the server/bartender.

If you are "splurging" and having the rum, the "Lava FLow" at the Poly is wonderful and doesn't taste boozy. They mix the strawberry daiquiri and the pina colada together in one glass and they "flow" together. This drink is beautiful AND delicious! For this one I actually live on the edge and have the rum! :)

You rock! I've been looking for the Island sunset recipe! Question though... any idea what POG concentrate is? It was listed as an ingredient.

Island Sunset
Tambu Lounge
1/2 oz. Malibu Rum
1/2 oz. Captain Morgan's Rum
1/2 oz. Melon Liquor
1/2 oz. Peach schnapps
2 oz. POG concentrate
Garnish: Orange flag
Serve in a Hurricane glass

Hrm...this is what the wdwig menu says
Island Sunset - spiced rum, Malibu, melon liqueur and peach schnapps combined with guava passion fruit juice $6.99

Maybe it's a guava passion fruit concentrate?

so I'm not sure!
