Laissez les bon temps Rouler...Feb 2010 2/20 MK Last part of the Night updt 9/70 pg65

Loved the Indy pix. Love CMC. Sounds like a perfect evening. And to live in Louisiana during Lent would be awesome. :thumbsup2

So - you have a little trip planned???? :rolleyes1 Do tell!

I haven't seen Indy for quite some time either, and proabaly wouldn't mind seeing it from those good seats y'all got. Nice!

Glad you enjoyed Cape May! Lots of crab legs can never be a bad thing!! And neither can a quick-ish bus! Sorry you didn't get to DTD, but do know that feeling of just being DONE.

We really liked Cape May. I would do it again. I really wish we hadn't felt so tired by then. Only one more park day left.

Thanks MEK! It was a very nice evening.

I was planning on posting our possible trip info last night but we got a "severe thunderstorm" yesterday late afternoon. Last night was spent visiting with the neighbors to assess the damage and today was spent cleaning it up. We lost quite a few shingles, part of a fence and just a general big mess.

Ugghhhhh - That's terrible! I'm so sorry. But at least no one was hurt and the storm wasn't worse. Good luck with the clean up. Something I am sure no one feels like doing.

Compared to everyone else across the US we've been very lucky. We have a mess but no loss of life.

May has been a very busy month here. Seems like everyone tries to jam everything in right before the end of school. We had a niece graduated from High School. Another niece graduated from College (which meant a road trip). Danielle had lots of end of school functions. She also had a dance recital which required a dress rehersal downtown. The recital ended up being right about the time the Mississippi River was cresting, thankfully they opened the Morganza Spillway which helped lessen the crest. Since the theater is downtown, right next to the river we just had to go check out the water. First I'm going to post some pictures of the area back on 2/26 when we went to the same area to catch a Mardi Gras Parade.

The is what the waterside of the levee usually looks like. See those steps? That's where we normally site to watch the fireworks on the 4th. Almost all of those steps were covered when the river crested. I can't show a picture of that because they closed the levee right before the recital.

This is the USS Kidd and what it looked like on 2/26. Back in January we actually spent the night here with the Girl Scouts and had the best tour ever.

Again the KIDD

Normal traffic on the levee.

Now some pictures taken 5/14/2011

This is as close to the levee as we could get.

Check out the KIDD now.

A little closer.

The now deserted levee.

Moving on...

One of the many things we had to do was go to a meeting for the school's Disney Club. Danielle had been invited join after being recommended by her teachers. What is the Disney Club? Well it's a club at her school that takes 20 to 40 kids to Disney each year at Mardi Gras to participate in the YES program (Youth Education Series). I know what you're thinking because I sure was too. Perfect for me I'll just sign up to be a chaperon. But sadly no go, Disney is very strict about the number of adults that go, so they only bring 4 teachers, one from each major subject. But it's still a great program for Danielle. The will attend 3 classes, each 3 hours long. The first class in Disney's World of Physics: Energy and Waves. After the class they get to test out what they learned in the Magic Kingdom! I can think of a few rides that would be a learning experience. The second class is Disney's Animation Magic at DHS. They get to learn about animation and even make their own cartoons. The last class they take is Disney's Wild by Nature at AK. They will experience the world of Disney's African Cats by exploring animal behavior. How exciting and it will only cost about $1000  and we had to put a $200 non refundable deposit to hold her spot as soon as possible.:scared1: Of course being the avid fans we are we couldn't tell her no. I'm happy to say her deposit has been paid and she better work real hard to fund raise a big portion of what's left to be paid.

Of course even though they told be I couldn't tag along my wheels were turning. Dennis' wheels were turning too and the next morning he suggested we go at the same time! Of course it would be a very short trip, but a short trip is better than no trip at all! We would have the best of both worlds. We could have our adult time but still have lots of kid time too. The kids are going by bus and leaving very early Saturday Feb 18th at like 2 a.m. and driving straight there. Once they get checked in they will head to Epcot for the rest of the day. They wouldn't start their classes until the next morning. There last day will be on Tuesday(Mardi Gras) the 21st. They would leave from the park and drive all night straight back. If we're able to pull this off, we would fly out Saturday morning and fly back on Wednesday. If they get back before we do we'll have Michelle pick her up for us. Don't feel sorry for Michelle because she and her boyfriend are planning a trip for May 2012 as soon as she finishes her final exams at LSU. It's her graduation trip.

I know this would be a real quick trip and it would be really crowded. Since this will be our 3rd trip for President's week and Mardi Gras we know the drill. Right now I can't wait until they put out the 2012 packages. In the past we have gotten deals for that time period so I really hope they do something. Keep your fingers crossed that everything works out.

I've seen Indy a couple of times and can take it or leave it at this point too.

I'm glad to hear that you liked Cape May. If someone from southern Louisiana likes it, maybe it's worth a try?

I'm cheap just like your husband and would've also been pushing for Disney transportation rather than spending money on a cab.

I hope your plans for another trip work out!

Glad I'm not the only one.

While it didn't have the spice we have here, what I ate I liked. I would do it again if the opportunity came up.

So he wasn't just being mean, he was being cheap!:headache: My feet were screaming for a taxi.

I hope your plans for another trip work out!

Only time will tell.

On a good note my insurance adjuster came by today and I WILL be getting a new roof. Just in time for hurricane season. Actually this will be a very good thing. Since we have had so many hurricane and so much damage counting Katrina most insurance companies have high hurricane deductibles. With a new roof I won't have to worry about this for a least a few years.

Thanks for posting the pics from the levee!! A coworker and I were at the capital one day for some healthcare stuff & decided to go to the top to take a look at the water. She couldnt believe that what she thought were bushes along the edge were actually the tops of full grown trees. Love the before and after pics of the Kidd too!! Hope ya'll are all doing well and can't believe that we have only run into each other that one time (Nutcracker practice).

I have never tried Cape May, but I plan to one day !!Hmmm Christine how about 2012????
Love the Feb 2012 plans too!!

I hope we never see the water that high again. I'm glad we got some pictures to remember it by.

We do need to run into each other again. I wish we had a Disney store still. That would be a great place to meet up with other Disers.

I hope you get a chance to give it a try.

This would be the perfect job for me in Disney World! :cool1: I would love to teach classes in Animal Kingdom!

I have faith that it will work out for all of you to go. What a great 'excuse' for taking a trip! :woohoo:

MeMom you would be perfect for the job. You're already a teacher and you love Disney!

I've got my fingers crossed.

I planned on doing a DHS round up and possibly starting our last park day but I got distracted. Disney release the 2012 packages!:scared1: I have spent the last 2 hours booking our trip and looking at pictures and menus. Anyone want to guess where I booked?

POFQ? Or Pop, since you won't even be IN the resort very much? Just realized Art of Animation won't be open yet.

By the way, the Disney Club sounds fantastic! Congratulate Danielle for me. That sounds like a wonderful honor AND a great opportunity! We were really disappointed this year that my grandson's science club (in the same parish) was not allowed to go on the really neat trip to Sea World that the sponsor had planned for May. They were going to have some special experiences as well as a lot of fun, but they weren't allowed to miss any school time, so there was no way they could make it. That was apparently a change this year. So it is a good thing the trip will be at Mardi Gras! And how clever of you to plan a trip at the same time!

You're close! It's somewhere we've never stayed.

I wish I was a kid and could go on this trip. The kids are going to miss any school. For the first time ever we actually have 3 days off for Mardi Gras. The kids don't return to school until the Thursday. I'm sorry the Sea World trip didn't work out. My oldest got to take a trip to Washington DC his freshman year in high school with the band. After that they never took another trip even though they had a Disney trip planned.

This was our final day in DHS and our only full day there. The crowds had finally thinned out some so that was real nice. I don't thing we saw any Cheerios either. Our first day at DHS they were everywhere. I shouldn't say that since I now have a Cheerio. Or course we didn't do everything but I think we hit most of what we wanted to do. We didn't do Star Tours. Of course I don't do Star Tours, the motion thing but I did try in back in 1999. The rest hasn't rode it since 2006, but not that it has been updated I think they will give it another go. My regrets are that I didn't get to try an many sweets as I would like to try. I keep seeing the best deserts coming from Starring Rolls and the Writer's shop, both of which I have never visited. They are both on the short list for the next trip. We did get some goodies from the Villians store. I know I wish I had gotten more rides on TOT and the others would have liked more rides on RNR. Does anyone else find the since the opened TSM that it kind of messes with the planning of riding the other two major rides? It use to be that we would ride one and grab a fp for the other and get to ride them multiple times. Now that we have to fit TSM in there too it messes with the system we had in place. If you don't ride it stand by first thing and the morning and get a fp right away you won't get two rides in. Of course getting that fp pushes back getting another fps until later. I think we're going to have to go with using the single rider line like Marv and his family did. I just feel bad for Danielle, I would hate for her to ride by herself or not be seated with a family member. I have no problem riding TOT by myself, I've done it before but it is more fun with family. In 2009 my sister had the special pass so we rode TSM as many times as we wanted and used our Fps for RnR and Tot. I want to catch more Idol shows next time or maybe opt for the last show of the night. It was really fun.

I'm glad we got out of the park and tried a new restaurant. Our first ever meal in the Boardwalk area. We tried to get into ESPN in 2005/2006 but it wasn't meant to be.:sad2: I would like to eat at Cape May's Cafe again sometime in the future.

Okay that pretty much wraps that up. Up next our final park day. Where else but the Magic Kingdom.

I just don't think ToT would be the same, riding with strangers. So, we have to do that one as a family (or I should say, members of the family brave enough to go on it). RnRC I'm okay doing single-rider and riding separately.

I am NOT fine riding single or with the family on ToT or RnR , But TSM if they had a single rider line NO problem !!!

It's such a tough call now.

Oh but Rosie you're missing so many thrills!
