Kitchen Sink / Mickey Pants - Quality or Size?

Planning our next trip and this is an item of debate - we probably only have room for one of these (either Plaza or Beaches & Cream) as a meal, or other places for dessert.

First - I think the B&C Kitchen Sink is really not comparable to the Mickey Pants sundae in terms of wow factor, correct? People who know me can't understand how someone who loves both Disney and ice cream so much has never had a kitchen sink...I feel like I'm really missing out on something I would like.

But Second - are either of these known for being super tasty? Or just known for being large servings? Because one group member doesn't understand why we don't just hit up Ample Hills...or Ghiradelli at DS...like is this my grocery store kinda quality ice cream with a bunch of decent toppings thrown on it? Or are these extra silky smooth tasty ice creams and quality toppings?

Can folks chime in with the best Ice Cream experience for ice cream fans? Is this like, if I haven't done the kitchen sink yet, we need to just make it happen at least once? Or, nah, hit up one of the others for your ice cream fix, and go get some more interesting food for meals (I mean, Epcot has SO many good options..)

The Kitchen Sink is for the experience - I've done it once and it was fun and made for fun pictures, but I don't think anyone eats it and says "wow, the quality of this ice cream is super fantastic." It was good. Hard to screw up ice cream and toppings. I would describe it as grocery store ice cream though. This is coming from a person who loves Beaches & Cream and eats there once per trip.

We like the Mickey Pants sink because you can take the pants home, and it's easier to eat. You are right, the wow factor is not there with that.

People say Ample Hill is better ice cream, I've never done it. Ghirardelli is also a great option.

I believe the Kitchen Sink and the Mickey Pants are Edy's ice cream, that you can get at your local grocery. Ample Hills is excellent ice cream, but I feel like their sundaes take away from the ice cream flavor. I prefer to have the Ample Hills "plain". I have not tried Ghirardelli yet - every time I attempt it the place is swamped with people so I think I'll try it later. Later just hasn't arrived yet!

I like the No Way Jose at B&C. The Kitchen Sink is too many flavors of ice cream and stuff mixed together. I prefer something a little more simple, so the flavors can shine. The combination of hot fudge and peanut butter in the No Way Jose is divine!

Out of 4 previous trips we have done the Kitchen Sink just one for daughters 12th birthday, it was good but not something we would go back for. But every trip we do make a trip to Ghirardelli's, far better.

We just like getting a regular scoop of ice cream at B&C. The kitchen sink is way too much for us. We don't like Ample Hills- it's ice creams are too chunky & saccharine sweet, not really creamy enough for us.

It sounds like you're an ice cream lover who wants quality, but also a WDW lover who wants the magic. I don't think you'll get both... but the Kitchen Sink is quite the experience and you won't be able to taste the sub-par ice cream when looking at your hilarious pictures of it. I say go for it!

We have done the Kitchen Sink a few times - it is a lot of fun. You can change the flavors if you want. I agree that the ice cream is good but it is the experience. I say you do it once. We love Ample Hill. It started in Brooklyn NY and we eat it often - so delicious and fresh. We eat it at Disney as well. I will say the last time we went the line was so long so we went to pick up two pre-packaged pints and ate it back at the room. Then you don't have to wait on line. Enjoy - we all love ice cream too!

I agree with the comments of doing it for the experience. It's a fun/neat thing to do and one of the few food experiences where we had other families' encouragements and advice (as they were trying to finish theirs when we got ours):-). We did the regular one (with mint chip, cookies in cream, etc.) peanut butter syrup was delish. We managed to finish it!! (DH, me, DS 17, DS 15) but no way just DH and I could do it alone:crazy2:

The fountain at the dolphin also has a mega sundae. Another fun option

We have never tried the Kitchen sink, but we did get the mickey pants sundae on our last trip. We really enjoyed it and it was just enough for three of us, plus you get to keep the sink which is really cute! With the big kitchen sink, I don't believe you get to keep it, and it looked way larger than we thought we could handle.
