since all this talk about religion lately, I had to ask this:

which do you prefer or use?

I will only read the Kings James Version.

Others?

Since this was brought up, if you like please feel free to explain.

It depends. I read the NIV more, but I use the KJ a lot for reference.

Since I am Roman Catholic, I had to pick "Other".

I read the "New American Bible" and DH has the "Douay-Rheims" Bible.

I prefer the NIV for my personal study. I believe it is a more accurate translation and an easier read.

However, since I grew up only using King James, a lot of the verses just don't sound "right" to me ;)

My girls attend Christian Schools and use KJV for all of their memory work.

However, my Sunday School lessons all come from the Holman Christian Standard Bible.

I would be curious on why people choose one or the other as well.

The only ones I own are KJV's.

I'm the same way. I use NIV for my every day reading just because it's easier for me to understand. But most of the verses I have memorized are King James.

I was raised on KJV, and until recently I preferred that version. But now I have the New Testament in NCV (New Century Version); it's all the same material as in KJV (no different translation), just put in simpler terms. I wish I could find an Old Testament with NCV; I love it!

I really enjoy the New American Standard version. Far easier for me to understand. I have a NIV, DH has the NAS, so when we read together, he usually reads aloud and I follow along in my translation.

I have a lot of trouble with KJV. I spend most of my time trying to figure out what I just read rather than learning from it.

Neither
I'm Catholic and use the Ignatius RSV Bible (because that's what my theology professors seem to prefer)

I find KJV difficult to read, so I prefer the NIV for study purposes. If I'm reading through Scripture, I like the New Living Translation, but it's hard to memorize Scripture verses from it since it reads like everyday conversation. I prefer the New American Standard translation for Scripture memory. I want to get a new Bible with my married name embossed on the front (after 3 years of marriage I suppose it's about time, LOL), and I'm deciding between the NIV and the New American Standard translations.

DD and I both prefer NIV. I also like the NAS. DH prefers KJV.

I do think the KJV is easier to memorize. We're currently doing Experiencing God, and the workbook that we're using has the memorization verses in NIV, and it's harder for me to get them down.

I believe the KJV is a beautifully written version. But like several other posters, I prefer the NIV for studying. It's also the version that my pastors use.

I use an NIV Study Bible. DW uses a New Living Study Bible.

I grew up with KJV. I've also used New American Standard. Occasionally, I like to read The Message version. Our pastor uses all kinds of different versions, depending on the wording. My Bible Study teacher call the KJV "the Bible Jesus carried." :rotfl:
