I read the NIV. The KJV is too difficult for me to understand. However, I do have another translation that I use when I need to read a passage in more simpler terms. It's the God's Word Translation (GWT).

I try to read "The Bible for Dummies" first, then follow-up with the appropriate verses in the KJV - it helps to understand what I'm about to read. My Sunday School teacher only wants us readin g KJV. My pastor will reference the NIV sometimes. I think that it's good to be on one accord - but which one:confused3

I use ESV (English Standard Version). It's a relatively new version, translated word for word (NIV is translated in phrases) from the original languages. It's a great study Bible, along the lines of the NASB. I love it, but still use my NIV, and will often use www.biblegateway.com to compare verses in different versions (often enlightening).

I use them both.

The NIV is my personal bible...I've had it since high school and it's all marked up. The cover is about to fall off, but I don't want to get rid of it b/c of all the notes inside.

The KJV is the one my church uses.

And I've found myself cross referencing them to figure out the meaning of challenging passages.
