Kim's new and improved life journal!

sorry you had a rough run kim, but you still did it! and you did it in 22 minutes..i think thats great!! hang in there, youll try again friday!

Kim - sorry you had a "bad" run.....but an 11 minute mile is nothing to be ashamed of. My first 5K (3.1) I did in 35.36 minutes, which is about 11:40.....so you did pretty good in my opinoin. I know you've been doing it faster, but you also took 3 days off.
You'll do great on Friday!

Hey Kim!!!

Here is my story....I had THE WORST RUN ever yesterday. It was so bad that I lay in bed last night thinking that I'm completely crazy and that maybe running isn't for me. I couldn't even bring myself to journal it because I was so bummed. My story is VERY similar to yours....I got out there all ready to go and started running. My legs never loosened up.....my ankles started aching :confused3 , I got pains in my legs and they were throbbing after 1.5 miles so instead of turning onto the street to continue with my 4 mile run I turned back towards home and completed just shy of 2 miles in 21 minutes. I was baffled by the tired legs and labored breathing. I was a mess!!! So here is my thought.....there is some WEIRD ENVIRONMENTAL THING GOING ON and it affected our runs. Next run will be better for BOTH OF US! :cheer2: Somebody else over on the events board had stinky run yesterday too.

We'll just chalk this one up to strange phenomenon and move on ;)!

As for drinking/eating. I try to drink a LOT of water (ok I'm supposed to drink a lot of water) the day before I run. I drink a glass of water an hour before I run my typical weekday runs. I also try to eat something VERY light but not always...shorter runs I can usually get by with just a little water an hour before the run and maybe a few bites of an energy bar.

Hang in there girl!!! :goodvibes

Kim,

I'm with Amy on the whole WEIRD ENVIRONMENTAL THING GOING ON. I had my worst run ever on Monday with the same symptoms that everyone else is describing. Maybe the moon shifted out of phase? Maybe the electromagnetic pulses from the Dharma hatch put everything out of wack? I dunno but we are all just gonna have to realize that at least we tried! Says a lot that we at least got out there and attempted to run, instead of vegging on the couch with a bag of chips. It's hard, but just shake it off, get the proper rest and hopefully the next run will be better!

As for fluids & eating, I drink around 100 oz while I'm at work during the day. Most of my runs are at night and either before dinner or a minimum of 1 hour after eating. On the weekend long morning runs, I just get up and go with no food or water intake beforehand. I don't know what the right answer is but I'd think that everyone is different and you'll have to try various combinations before finding what works best for you.

have a great day!

Hi guys! Thanks so much for your support and encouragement.

Jen - I can always count on you! :thumbsup2

Marie - I know that my time was good, and I definitely wouldn't complain about that. I just hated the way I felt while running. I really had to push through. But I guess that happens from time to time.

Amy & Scott - WHEW! Not that I'd wish bad runs on you guys...but just knowing that you had bad runs too...that does make me feel better! I'm sure we'll all do better next time. Just had to get the bad one out of the way! I went out & bought a new CD of dance tracks...so hopefully that'll keep me moving & keep me distracted! :moped:

I don't know if taking off from Sat to Wed had anything to do with it, but it might've. I'll have to pay attention next time I take off that much time (because I'm sure there'll be a next time :rolleyes1 ).

Have a great one, guys. And thanks again!

hey buddy-
Hope you are having a good day today ..tomorrow is FRIDAY!! then finally the weekend--this week just went on and on!!!
hope you have a good run tomorrow ..hang in there--it WILL get better!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!! :woohoo:

Not nice weather outside...but a good day anyway! I woke up & got dressed to run before I realized it was raining. I couldn't talk myself into getting out there in the rain to run, so I jumped on the eliptical for 40 minutes. I completed 2.65 eliptical miles...and sweat more than I ever do running!! My calories and fat burned were AWESOME!! I felt good. I've missed my buddy, the eliptical! :teeth:

Tomorrow me, DH and the kids are walking in the Heart Walk in Ocean City on the boardwalk. It's a 5 mile course, and we've done it the past 3 or 4 years. My father has a heart disease, so it's a charity that is near & dear to my heart  . WISH us luck! And send pixie dust for some nice weather!! What's really nice for the kids is they give us 2 free hours of rides at each of the 2 piers. So we make a day of it. We walk with DH's work team, and there are about 120 of us this year!! :woohoo: So far the team has raised over $11,000!!! :yay:

I will hopefully go running on Sunday. DS4 has a karate test for a new belt in the morning, so we'll see how our day goes, as to when I can squeeze in a run.

Hope you all have a GREAT weekend!!

This is awesome!! I hope you have a great time and here's wishing for good weather for you :wizard: $11,000 is an incredible amount.

Also glad to see someone else likes Mr. Elliptical! I'm with you on the sweat thing, I definitely sweat more on it than running/treadmill/stationary bike. I've noticed a huge discrepancy in elliptical miles on the two models in my fitness center, but the workout you get on them is so awesome...

have a good day and a great time tomorrow!

Hi Kim,

Don't be too hard on yourself for the "bad" run....I am sure that there was something in the air! You will do better on your next run!!!

Way to go on getting on the elliptical...I love ours....it makes me feel so good so I am so with you on missing it....

Good luck tomorrow on your walk!! I think that is great the whole family takes part!!!

Keep up the great work and have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Monday, guys!

Thanks so much for the good-weather WISHes!! It turned out to be a beautiful day :sunny: !! The walk went welll (first year without a stroller for the kids, and they did GREAT)! I'm sure part of it was knowing they were going to be on the rides afterwards! haha

If I had to guess, I'd say we walked probably close to 10 miles on Saturday between the 5 mile course and then walking the boardwalk & ride piers for another 4 hours. Then yesterday the kids and I went to a local Mayfest (craft fair) and walked for another couple hours. I decided to take today off from running. I will absolutely, positively be meeting with Bob tonight for some weight training and ab workout. And I'll go running tomorrow morning. I just thought I'd give my legs a rest today.

I hope you all had a GREAT weekend!

Glad to hear you had a great weekend Kim! Probably a good idea to take a break after all of the walking that you did. Have a good day!

Hey Kim -
Great job on the Heart Walk!! You deserve a break from the running after that! Also, I bet the kids had a great time at the pier!
Tell Bob I'll meet up with him soon...I just have to get my motivation back up....

later

Hey all!!

Well, I met up with Bob last night, after a long hiatus. He really missed me, and asked how the other Bob-ettes were doing. :thumbsup2 Then he proceeded to kick my butt!!! Guess that'll teach me to stop doing weights for such a long time. :teeth:

I think, since my runs are getting longer, I am going to change my running days to Wed, Fri and Sun. Weds and Fris I drop DD7 off at school myself (instead of using before-school program) so I don't have to leave the house until 8:45. That allows me to sleep until 6 and then get up, go running, and then still get out of the house on time. So tomorrow it is...I'm going to attempt the 3.2 mile course and do a little walking if necessary. I'm gonna just see how I feel as I go.

Scott and Amy, you guys are my running inspirations!! The hills and trails you attack with a vengence are incredible!!! Keep up the great work, guys...you're pushing me to keep going further! :moped:

Have a great one!

Hi KIM!!!!!

I'm really sorry I haven't posted here in a while! Your weekend walk sounds like it went really well! That is so awesome that you made it a family thing! WAY TO GO!!!!

And good luck on your 3.2 miler! I'm sure you will do a fantastic job! You really have improved so much in such a short time.... :thumbsup2 we're going to have so much fun in our race!!! :teeth:

I have to say that I'm really impressed with your early morning runs! I'm really NOT a morning person, so anybody that can make the commitment and get up and out there to run early in the morning is a super-star to me!!!

Hi Kim~

You'll do great on your 3.2 miler! You CAN do it! Go Kim! Go! :cheer2:

Have a great Wednesday! :sunny:

Kim - Just thinking about you and how that 3.2 miler went this morning!! You are doing so great, keep it up!!!

Hi kim,

Your weekend walk sounded great!!! Glad that you all had a wonderful time.

How did your 3.2 miler go? Good I am sure!!!

Keep up the good work!

Have a great day :)

Hey guys! It's so great to come here and see all of the support you all show.

The run this morning was AWESOME!!! I'm so glad I rested from the weekend. It's been a whole week since I've run, so I told myself - if I felt like turning and doing the 2.5 mile course, I'd do it. If I felt like going straight & going for the 3.2...then I'd do that.
When I got to the point where I'd turn (just under 1 mile) I was at 6.45 mins...so I decided to go for the 3.2. Before I left home I told myself (yes, I talk to myself a lot ;)) that I would absolutely take a walk break about 1/2 way through.

I ended up running for 17 minutes, then walked 4 (was planning on walking 5, but felt ready to go after 4) and then ran the rest of the way home. I finished in 32 minutes even!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

I hope to drive the course tonight to find out where the mile markers are so I can figure out my splits on my future runs. But I am SO excited to have finished my first 5K run. What an awesome feeling....I'm on cloud nine now!! Where's that smilie......... :cloud9:

Thanks again to you guys for your encouragement and support. This was merely a dream a few short months ago...and I've actually accomplished it much sooner than I thought I would!

Today is actually my 9th wedding anniversary! :lovestruc And I can't help but think about how much healthier and physically fit I am today compared to 9 years ago! So, it's a good day!!

Way to go Kim on your 3.2 miler! :cheer2: I knew you could do it!!!! Keep on keeping on! You are doing great! :thumbsup2

Happy Anniversary to you and your DH. Do you have any special plans for dinner or something this evening?

Have a wonderful day! :sunny:

:cheer2: :thumbsup2 :cheer2: :thumbsup2 :cheer2: :thumbsup2

WAY TO GO KIM!!!!!

What an amazing effort on your 3.2 miler! That is outstanding for your first time out! You are going to be SOOO ready for that race in August! Maybe you should try to find another one sooner b/c truly you are ready to run the distance today! Super effort!!!! :grouphug:
