We haven't made any def. plans yet, but we are probably going to go the first weekend in March for ESPN the weekend. I am trying to decide what kind of things the girls will need for that time of year. I am kinda hoping that capri jeans will be o.k. because I have some really cute ideas!

We went to ESPN this past march (we had the BEST TIME EVER!!!) I have lived in Florida all of my life and the weather that weekend was WILD - the saturday was cooler (I went in jeans and t-shirt) on Sunday it was warm enough for shorts and t-shirts!!!! I suggest layerables (is that even a word!) that way you can always take off or put on more!

McCalls 4567 : Alice, Dorothy, Raggedy Ann, Little Red Riding Hood, and MINNIE!
It's out of print :( ... maybe search of it in auctions & online ...

If anyone is interested in making Little Red Riding Hood, I have a pattern for her cloak on the bookmarks page. I have a bunch of other costume patterns on there as well, so make sure you check there before paying for a pattern. There is one site I found that has some basic clothing patterns, and then she tells you how to make them into all sorts of costumes, it's really a neat site! (It's in my bookmarks page, link in siggy or on first post of this thread, also in hkite's siggy now too!)

Can anyone point me in the direction of a pattern or instructions for a peasant shirt and a corset?

I have a peasant shirt pattern on the bookmarks site, and I'm pretty sure there is a corset pattern on there as well. (I know I saw one once using milk jugs cut up for boning, but I would guess that's now what you are looking for!)

Here are a few more pictures from our last week trip.

I adapted the licensed pattern for the Snow White outfit. I made it in cotton and the two fabrics actually have a subtle print. I don't know why, but when I saw them at Joann I immediately thought "Snow White." We lost the knot cover for the cape so my daughter kept yanking the cape back on her neck.

It's a little known fact that Belle wore pink Crocs when walking into her poor provincial town. I had carefully packed perfectly coordinating footwear for all of my girls' outfits, but some things are not worth arguing about.

We've all seen this outfit multiple times. Here's my version:

These AK/Minnie shirts turned out to be one of my favorites. They each had a matching bow that I bought from a really great auction site seller.

Very cute outfits! I like the pink Crocs!

Does this sound like it would work?

Measure around DD's waist - and figure out how tall I want the corset to be. Cut two pieces of fabric that size (adding seam allowances - but subtracting just a bit from the length so that it will leave just a little gap for the opening at the front). Sew it together with interfacing or something in between two layers to give it a little bit of body. Set grommets on each end of the rectangle and then thread ribbon through to make the tie in the front. If I wanted, I could do a gathered ruffle on the bottom.

Does that sound like it would work at all?
Yes, that definetely sounds like it would work! I added your directions to the bookmark site.

Sometimes to help it run a little smoother I have been known to use Tri-Flow. IT is a thread lubriqent(sp) and it will help it run better throug hthe machine, but be carefull not to put toooo much otherwise it could run on the clothes!

Lori
I've never heard of this before, thanks for the tip!

I stick with A&E's Maxi-Lock, it's on a cone ...
A&E also, make a Jo-Ann's branded version too (A&E thread, Jo-Ann's Labels) ...
:)

I didn't know that!

This is what I'm trying to recreate

piratetutu.jpg

That would look GREAT on meeeeee! pirate:

Hee hee, I'm totally kidding. Or am I?

Seriously, that is really fun! My DD would love it! She loves anything pirate-princessy!

Mindy mouse – those purses are sooo cute! Too bad I don’t carry one.

Lil ragamuffins – OI forgot to say how great your “payment” for making things for your boys is!

We’re all using the same fabric! If we’re all at WDW at the same time, it’ll be crazy!
Utah and I will both be there, so Jeanie and Norah will DEFINITELY have coordinating outfits.
Which I think is cute, since it wasn’t on purpose.
Hmm.
I bought the nemo print too, Utah. Have you?
Heh.

Esab4 – Adorable! And of course Belle wore pink crocs! ;)

Just like when I’m Minnie at MNSSHP, I wear yellow crocs! With lots of Jibbitz.

Tnmom – I’m in Nashville! Hi Neighbor!

My twotinks – Oh my goodness! The Winnie the pooh dress in the background of your sewing area is precious! I love it.

And I just bought the Disney machine on Sunday.
I love it so far, but haven’t tried the embroidery yet.

Anyone done it? Can you embroider directly on polo style shirts, or are they too big?

I used the square bottom bag tutorial on sewingmamas.com . The tutorial is great. Would post it here but don't know how. I am working on myself a Minnie one now. I will post it when done.

I threw out the plastic directions but the interfacing came on a roll at Hancock. It is REALLY THICK!!! I thought there is no way but it worked! It is Pellon (non fusable) and I don't remember the number. I think it is usually $4-$5 a yard and I got it on sale for about $3. Hope this helps. The longest part of making the bag to me is cutting it out and ironing on the interfacing.

You should upload your picture to the SewingMamas tutorial download page. http://www.sewingmamas.com/b/downloads.php?do=file&id=70 I hate not knowing what the completed projects look like before downloading them, and these really look great!

This is what I'm trying to recreate

piratetutu.jpg

That's the same one I recreated. All I have left is to add the trim to the bottom of the black waist thing. I found a shirt at walmart that was just right for the top and has sort of a ruffle at the bottom. The black belt sits perfectly, so the ruffle shows under it. I want to add some little coin trim to the belt and it's done.:yay:

Well, I still have to do the hat yet, anyone seen one that's not plastic? Hot glueing the feather boa shouldn't be a problem?

Alright y’all. Go easy on me! Remember, I’ve never sewn an outfit before and I just started these on Saturday.
The first two are for a little girl we’re taking to Disney World with us.

Here’s the first thing I made:

Here’s the second:

And the matching shirts for me and tammy:

And here’s what I made for me last night:

Here is what I am working on now. I traced clip art & cut & pieced it all together. This pic is before I did the stitching, well I did some of the hair lol
Anyway, I am scared to do the eyes! ( I fixed the other eye btw)
I did a little outlining in white, but I saw some previous pics & they used black to outline..I tried that & it looks awful! Now I need to pick it out & re do it..should I try by hand? I have NO CLUE how to do it by hand though!
Anyway I would love advice on how to get the small parts to look nice
Thank you!
(PS I finally finished this entire thread late last night! LOL!)

cinder.jpg

Are you piecing the eyes or embroidering the eyes? I purposely chose the Alice I did, so that I would only have ONE eye! LOL... sorry not to be more encouraging!

I saw in an embroidery book, when you fill in, you don't want to fill in with long satin stitches. It's best to take irregular length stitches to fill in spaces. Do you know what I mean?

She looks GORGEOUS so far!! Cinderella is my next challenge as well!

Here are some overalls I made for my best friend. She needs them saturday for her son's first birthday and I have to mail them to her so I thought I better start them today. I would like to add something else but not sure what. The problem is she is having a circus cake, and to me giraffes aren't at circuses so I skipped the tent we had thought about it. I also don't want to personalize them because then it makes it super hard to sell.

and here are the plates, napkins, etc

animal.jpg

You did a BEAUTIFUL job!! I especially love how you anchored the elephant on the top with the frayed patch under him.

Your friend is going to love them!!

Ya know, if you ever wanted to "Disney-ize" them, you could add some mouse ears to their heads! They'd be cute for a toddler in the AK!

Bellygirl, that Cinderella applique is very impressive! I can't wait to see it when you've finished.

Celerystalker, the dresses and tops look great!

WOW! That's is a great bookmarks list!

It's so jammed packed full of GREAT SITES with Tons of Projects, it's taking me awhile to look through it all. :coffee:
I'm still looking for that free corset pattern, though. :)
THANKS TONS for putting that list together & posting it!!!!!!!

Celery! You're shrinking ;) And I love your new hair cut! And I notice all your Ariel nick-nacks

Look at you go!!! I think you're getting the hang of it! :yay: :yay: :yay:
For someone who's never ever sewn, I think you're awe-some!

How do you like your new Disney machine? I want it just to put little embroidery on polo shirts for my boys.

They say they don't feel left out and only want sleep pants sewn for them, but I feel all guilty :rolleyes1

OMG. You all are AMAZING!! I could cry - at the darling outfits you create, and because I can't sew to save my life!!!! I SO want to learn how to do this. Any tips for a newbie on where to begin???
I guess I need to find a class at JoAnn or somewhere like that??? Any tips to pass along would be most welcome.

Hoping to be able to post a cute outfit someday soon (I guess before our early Sept. trip would be unlikely, huh?!).....
Erin

I would find a pair of basic capris, overalls, or jeans and embellish them! That is a quick and easy way to get something custom with little work.

As for learning to sew. Read your machine's owners manual and get one of the EASY or BASIC sewing patterns. Do you have a friend that sews? You could have her on call if you have a problem or invite her over for a "sewing party"! The best way to learn is to do it.

Ok, there's a short corset in this pattern

http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4952.htm?tab=costumes&page=3

But when I look at that I think - ok how simple could that be? Do I need to buy the pattern just fot that one piece?

Does this sound like it would work?

Sorry, I missed this post. I just used a remnant of black vinyl. I cut one long rectangle, folded top edge over, stitched down. Folded the ends over, and set the grommets through both layers. The bottom edge is currently left unfinished, I'm going to sew coin trim to the top of it.

utah and esab - thanks!

I don't know about the embroidery yet. I'll see if I can find a thread specifically for that machine.

TNmom and celery stalker, I'm your neighbor too! I'm in Nashville too, well actually Murfreesboro, but close enough!

karrie - I actually live in Franklin, but I always say Nashville for simplicity's sake.

I thought I'd share my budget sewing space. I would love to have a space like the seamstress, but for right now this will have to do!

sewing.jpg

I went to Wal-mart and bought a set of shelves (around $60)and some baskets ($5 each). For about $100 I have a pretty organized area! I keep all of my supplies in the baskets right at my reach. I have the big basket next to the table for my "upcoming projects" and I keep all of my extra fabric, patterns (tons of them because I can't turn down a $.99 pattern) and projects that I may or may not get to in the future in large plastic bins in my laundry room.

The card table is exactly the right size so my dh and my Dad are going to make me a black table that is just the same size. I am a lucky girl with a Daddy who is a trim carpenter who recently retired with lots of time on his hands! I need to get a good chair that turns too. My bedroom furniture that I am going to buy whenever I quit spending all of our extra money on sewing supplies, is going to be black so it should all look like it goes together.

sewingspace007.jpg

This is the sewing machine that I have had for about 5 years now. I love love love  it. My biggest suggestion to a new sewing would be to go to several sewing machine stores and let them help you find what machine fits your needs. You can always go someplace and try to find the best deal after you find what works for you. If you buy it from them, they will usually give you free lessons on the machine!

sewingspace008.jpg

This is the Disney sewing machine that I bought off of ebay a while back! I can't tell you how it works because I haven't had the nerve to try to work with it yet. I thought it would be fun for embroidery, but now I don't know what to do with it!

I'm off to take my girls to the dentist. I really really really would rather be sewing today!

Hi, Do you have the manual to the Disney machine. I have 2 of those machines....so if you need the manual or tips, just let me know...

If there's enough of us around here, maybe we should all meet up too. I felt left out earlier, when the other group planned on meeting up!

Celery: those outfits are top notch my first sewing attempt and i say attempt was a disaster!:scared1: you look like you are getting it. way to go you rock:thumbsup2
i love your knick knacks on the shelf too..
i will pm you with my kids clothing size for some embroidery work:laughing:

Wendy: you know you want that pirate outfit for you:woohoo: hey i want it too;) it is totally awesome..:thumbsup2
