Alright y’all. Go easy on me! Remember, I’ve never sewn an outfit before and I just started these on Saturday.
The first two are for a little girl we’re taking to Disney World with us.

Here’s the first thing I made:

Great job! I think you'll have a very happy little girl with those dresses! And I love that you big kids are getting into the spirit of things also! :cheer2:

Hi, Do you have the manual to the Disney machine. I have 2 of those machines....so if you need the manual or tips, just let me know...

I have the manual, I just haven't even looked at it yet. I don't think that my husband pays close enough attention to what I am doing to even know that I haven't touched it yet. I doubt he could even look at them and tell which is which. I am so comfortable with my Janome that I probably won't really "sew" on the Brother.

I want to try a little bit of embroidery. I haven't bought any thread yet. I have looked at it on ebay a couple of times, but I worry about the quality. I really like the idea of having a whole set so I can just pull it out and work with it instead of having to go to the store and get colors for every project.

Have you bought many of the embroidery cards? I haven't done that either. I guess I should probably figure out how to thread it before I start investing the big bucks in it though!

I mostly just want to use it for small things like bows.

Here are my latest outfits for my DS3. His are so much easier since I'm just appliqueing (sp) onto a T-shirt but I'm trying to think of different things besides just a Mickey head.

Anyone have any ideas what I could do for him for CRT. The girls are wearing dresses made from the purple princess toile. Since we have 2 girls, he is a BOY, my husband won't do anything too fancy for him. :)

Great job on the shirts! DS saw the Lightning shirt and says he wants one :)
For your DS you could applique a tie onto a t-shirt? Someone around here had done that (can't get my hands on the pic) I think it was a fourth of July themed outfit, looks cute.

If I find the pic I will post it.

Found It!

I don't remember who did it, but aren't they cute.

It must really depend on your machine. I have never had a problem with Coats and Clark so for me it wouldn't make sense to spend more $$$ on gutterman. Everybody should at least try to C & C and see if it works for you. I would hate for somebody to spend so much more $$$ for no reason. I feel bad for those of you who have to spend so much on thread!

I absolutely agree!! I've gone through hundreds of spools of thread in my quilting and use C&C almost exclusively for colors. I've never had a significant problem with it, on a Kenmore, Bernina, or Pfaff. My quilts have been washed and loved and the quilting and piecing have both held up.

Gutterman is fine; so are plenty of other types of thread. It's whatever works for each of us. I use Valdani for piecing (500 yd spool!) and Coats and Clark for decorative details (topstitching, hems, quilting).

castlecreations – I just bought the machine too and have a question about using it to embroider adult size clothes. As long as you want a small design, can you use the hoop included with the machine? I’m trying to think about how it will work and I’m not sure.
Also, do you know of a good starter set for embroidery thread?

Any tips at all will be appreciated!

Spongie and utah – those aren’t knick knacks! They’re snowglobes!
Send me the stuff you want embroidered and I’ll do it.

Karrie – I’d be in for a meet!

Keepmovingforward – Thanks! I’m a big kid at heart.

I wangted to show this pirate tutu set I made. This is an older pic, I Imade it last yr for a charity auction, but wanted to show it & show my easy "corset" LOL
I just took 2 pieces of fabric & looped ribbon between them:

wow I think I want to make one for DD now! I think we are all dressing as pirates for MNSSHP but she wants to be Tinkerbell lol

esab4, you did a WONDERFUL job! It is so great to see your kids there in their customs!! I especially love that you made your smiles around the world patriotic with the American flag Mickey head. Fantastic job!!

McCalls 4567 : Alice, Dorothy, Raggedy Ann, Little Red Riding Hood, and MINNIE!
It's out of print :( ... maybe search of it in auctions & online ...

I can't post links because I'm too new, but that pattern is available on joann.com as a new printable pattern. It's under Sewing --> Printable Sewing Patterns --> Easy Stitch and Save Printable Patterns. Title is "Easy Stitch and Save Printable- Girls Storybook Costume." I just saw it yesterday and pondered ordering. I think they do ebates and there's a 20% off coupon on the front page of the site. :)

HTH!

I'm confused...is South Forsyth, different than Forsyth. I used to live in Forsyth, but we were about an hour south of Atlanta...:confused3
It is actually Forsyth County. Everyone North of the Perimeter calls my area South Forsyth instead of the city I live in because of the boundry lines. One parking are has a Lowe's in Suwanee, the bank in the corner of that lot is in Duluth, and the neighborhood that is right next to it is Alpharetta. So, now you know why we just say South Forsyth!

You did a BEAUTIFUL job!! I especially love how you anchored the elephant on the top with the frayed patch under him.

Your friend is going to love them!!

Ya know, if you ever wanted to "Disney-ize" them, you could add some mouse ears to their heads! They'd be cute for a toddler in the AK!

I LOVE the "Disney-ize" idea. That would be TOO CUTE!

Sorry, I missed this post. I just used a remnant of black vinyl. I cut one long rectangle, folded top edge over, stitched down. Folded the ends over, and set the grommets through both layers. The bottom edge is currently left unfinished, I'm going to sew coin trim to the top of it.

I think I'm going to have a Pirate-Princess dress in the works before too long. It's not like I have anything else waiting in the wings!

Thanks for all the thread replies. I'll have to browse Joann's, maybe tomorrow after DD5's dentist appt.

has anyone see a black tank top in toddler and 7/14 girls in their shopping travels lol

That's the same one I recreated. All I have left is to add the trim to the bottom of the black waist thing. I found a shirt at walmart that was just right for the top and has sort of a ruffle at the bottom. The black belt sits perfectly, so the ruffle shows under it. I want to add some little coin trim to the belt and it's done.:yay:

Well, I still have to do the hat yet, anyone seen one that's not plastic? Hot glueing the feather boa shouldn't be a problem?

For those making this costume, are you buying shirts or making them? How or where? Tying the tulle onto elastic looks easy, but is it easier to sew it? How does it get sewn together onto elastic?

This is what I'm trying to recreate

piratetutu.jpg

You really don't need a pattern.

1. Measure around your daughter's chest and subtract 2 inches(for lacing) and this allows a 2 4/8 inch seam allowances for each side.

Then measure the length that you'd like it to be and add 1 inch for 2 4/8 inch seam allowance(top and bottom.

Cut 2 and 1 of interfacing.

Cut the ruffle 2x the measurement of the corset about 6 inches wide. Cut a piece of contrasting fabric the same length and about 3 inches wide

2. Sew the 2 short side wrong sides together and the top. turn . Make the ruffle by first sewing the contrasting fabric to the ruffle. Fold it in half and iron. Then gather. I would take the corset and fold up the seam allowance, iron it. Attach the ruffle by tucking the ruffle between the seam allowance, adjusting gathers. Pin and topstitch. You can topstitch around the top too.

2. Decide where you want the holes for the ribbon.Use an eyelet tool to punch holes. I would do this instead of the ribbon loops because it's m ore secure.

3. Weave ribbon through the holes and voila, you're done.

It wouldn't take an hour from cutting out to finish.

Very cute. I love that Mickey Gingham it's so cute I had to buy some. I don't know what I am going to make with it yet!

Can't wait to see what you can do with the Disney Machine.

I got my first starter thread set from www.sewvacdirect.com ...
great prices, ship fast & have nice sales people (I called to place my orders) ...
+ They carry emb. cards, readers/writters, programs ...
Plus Tons More!

I bought the set of 100 threads from http://www.abc-embroidery-designs.com. I also bought the set of 61 Poloystar threads from http://www.mrvacandmrssew.com/go/product/id/838.

I have had 0 problems using these threads in my how to class-no breakage and the sheen is incredible. Not to mention the price on these threads is MUCH cheaper than the Madeira, etc.

I bought black tanks in a size 4/5 at WalMart a month or so ago. I made these dresses with them. I don't know if they still have them or not. They had plenty of sizes and colors at that time.

All that since Saturday!!! Wow, you've been busy!

If there's enough of us around here, maybe we should all meet up too. I felt left out earlier, when the other group planned on meeting up!

I'd definitely be up for a meet/sewing party!!!

I am going to use the Mickey purse everyday. I used a pattern for a square bottom bag and added the extra fabric panel on top and the ribbon. It is really easy once you do one you don't even need directions anymore.

Thank you very much to your daughter who I think is named Megan just like my daughter ;) (saw her name on her frog shirt). The pink one has pink/black ball fringe on it but only the black ones showed up in the photo. --- Mindy

Oh, I thought you were going to use it at Disney. It's too cute to save though, I'm glad it's an everyday bag!

Yes, my Megan loves that pink and black bag. I'm not sure if she noticed the fringe, but I did: beautiful detail. Right now I am working on a simple backpack for a friend, but I would love to try one: thanks for the website!
