We are looking at going on a Disney Cruise in 2018. My son will be 12 and my daughter will turn 11 within a month or so of going. I know my son can go to both the kid club area and the tween club area My question is with the age of my daughter. Is Disney strict on the age or would they allow her to go to both areas since she is so close to being 11?

They are strict about the upper age limits and the minimum age of 3 for the Oceaneers spaces, but they are sometimes flexible when it comes to almost 11 year olds moving up to the Edge (the tween club) and almost 14 year olds moving up to the Vibe. It can depend on how many kids in the proper age group are already on the cruise. If there is space in the Edge, they might allow your daughter to age up. Go and talk to the counselors in the Edge on embarkation day.

It really depends on how many kids are in each club and sometimes just how strict the crew has been told. I would not mention to your kids about potentially being able to move up to a higher club but instead talk to the crew before you give it as an option to your daughter. That way if it doesn't happen there are no hurt feelings or disappointment but if it does it is a pleasant surprise for the younger child.

11 and 12 year olds are free to go between both as much as they like. And yes, the majority of 10 year olds can usually also attend Edge, however, Edge do pretty much all the same activities that the club and lab do, it just means that the 13 year olds want to go up to Vibe because their space is over run with 10 year olds, then the 17 year olds in Vibe really don't have anywhere to go because they cant age up to the adult areas...
Back in the day counsellors would ask a 10 year old to at least try out the club/lab first a couple of times and if they really hate it then they'll let them into Edge.

Remember everyone can use any space that is in open house and the club, lab, edge and vibe will have one session of OH a day.

Please also remember that the Edge has a lot of boys that are in that age range where girls are very much on their mind....I am not sure I would feel quite comfortable with my 10 year old going to the Edge, but then again, a 10 year old could be in middle school. I guess it would all depend on the maturity of the 10 year old.

This is so true. On the cruise we just took, the 17 year olds mainly hung around outside of the clubs because they did not want to be with the 13 year olds.

I did the New Year's Cruise on the Magic with dd 10 and ds 13. I really wanted her to be able to go to edge so they could do stuff together. After we had lunch I headed into edge with them and there were no problems. I just had to sign a form and she was good to go. They told me I could do the same for my son if he wanted to go to Vibe but I declined. Then we went to Oceanears club and got her registered there. I gave her in and out privileges. As it turned out the never went to Edge. My son didn't care to and my daughter spent hours in Oceanears. It was kind of funny because I fretted about it a lot pre-cruise and it was such a non issue!

I just had to sign a waiver for my almost 11 yo to go to Edge. It was no problem at all. We were on the Magic.

My 11 yo dd loved Oceaneers. I talked her into trying Edge one day and she said it was fun (didn't want to leave ;) but even after that she always chose to go back to Oceaneers.

Thank you everyone. This makes me feel better. I know we have some time before we even book but this has eased my mind. My husband and I have decided that we are only going to tell both kids about Oceaneers until we are on the boat and we know for sure.

See personally would rather talk up oceaneers Lab now so they would be happy to be there, rather than send them to the preteen area.

Good info, my granddaughters are going to be in this situation during of Sept. 2017 cruise.
