GCV Direct or Resale?

Hi all - we just wrapped up our first visit to Disneyland and had a fabulous time - we’re already planning our next trip back.

I had been in the market for a few more direct points - was originally leaning towards Poly but now thinking a West Coast resort instead.

We stayed at VDH and really loved it - but having the ToT at check-out did detract a bit. I already put out some offers on GCV resale but wondering if it’s worth going direct instead (understanding this is a longshot) - especially since it would only be 50-75 points.

On the other hand, the only real pro of going direct would be to combine with my existing contracts…which I would never really do given the cost. I’d treat them like restricted points.

Thoughts from those who’ve opted to go direct instead of resale for CGV specifically? Any other considerations you’d add?

Thanks!!

We had tried to go direct Grand Cali before we bought our direct DL points to get the direct benefits to go with our multiple Disney world resales. We ended up buying 200 points resale grand Cali that had max banked in points for 240 a point in the perfect June use year for us. Direct was 310 at the time but you couldn’t get it. Recently in May we were offered 160 points at 330 a point for June use year to year or any use year we wanted but they would not award 2024 points to be banked in. You may have to take the number of points a guide is lucky enough to grab for you but might not be able to get those banked in points either. We passed on it as we didn’t need any more points. Smaller contracts sell for more but if you could get 50-75 points direct in your use year and get the banked in points it would may be the direction I would go but you would have to check. If you wanted 150 points and were not needing any more direct to score benefits I would watch for a deal on a loaded resale.

Are you looking to stay in studios, I assume yes? I would do VDH because studios at VGC are so hard to get and VDH is studio heavy. Yes the TOT sucks but if you do end up combining the points at WDW or even to stay at VGC you aren't paying TOT taxes. I would actually bump up to 100 points at VDH since the incentives on 100 points is actually really great right now (if you have an AP and/or D23 Gold/Miliatry)

If VGC is for sure the way you want to go direct they are currently being restrictive on the UY being sold, right now they are selling June, previously it was Feb.

Given that it is such a small resort, it can be difficult to find smaller contracts. Not impossible, but more difficult.

This is actually a very logical choice to buy 100 direct at VDH right now if 4 person studios are the preferred room type for them. The incentives at the 100 point level if AP and D23 are good there at the moment.

Yep, studios. This is exactly the intel I needed - would be a huge bummer if I bought CGV and couldn’t even get a studio at 11 months - especially since we wouldn’t have a ton of flexibility heading over from the east coast.

So maybe VDH is the way to go - I was actually debating doing a favorite week in a preferred duo - we could use it as such for spring break or just opt out for points but at least I’d know that it’s there!

FW is super smart. I did one at VDH. Be sure to checkout the thread for sales incentive this period. Totally worth getting D23 to save extra but you need to sign up in advance. So great the incentives are better on 100 than 150 right now 😍.
