A silly question but I've always wondered about this. I thought someone from DIS boards may know the answer.

For attractions like Tower or Terror and Haunted Mansion where there are intentional cobwebs and dust (albeit fake) to help with the theme and atmosphere how does Disney go about keeping them clean?

Fake cobwebs and dust = good.
Real cobwebs and dust = bad.

Anyone know?

I assume CMs know the difference and handle accordingly.

I don't have any answers I'm afraid but just wanted to say that I'm glad I'm not the only person who has wondered about this!

Funny but legit question. I wonder how much dusting/cleaning goes on in attractions anyway - like how often? Dusting all those people in Its a Small Word sounds awful :crazy2:

:scared1: Just the thought of wandering around, all alone, at night, trapped inside with all those little dolls...

This story might be apocryphal, but I recall several decades ago hearing about a helpful CM on the night shift custodial staff who cleaned all of the cobwebs at the Haunted Mansion! OOPS! :rotfl2:

You should probably check their "web" site. :rolleyes1

I recall that one guidebook years ago claimed that they actually have to pump pounds and pounds of dust in at the HM because too much of it gets trekked back out. I always assumed that they left all the real dust there, unless maybe they clean it out a couple times per year and redo the dust. I know they have to close the ride and clean it out whenever someone gets the bright idea to scatter someone's ashes in there.

I can imagine a blueprint pointing at the fake webs and dust, with specific instructions to clean all the rest! :rotfl2:

We heard this story on our Keys to the kingdom tour in 2002!! I don't remember what she said they did do to keep it clean but dusty!!

WHAT?!

I don't know how someone could even do that discreetly. Or think that is ok. Kids with little lungs breathe that air...

Disney cobwebs and dust have luminescent markers in them, and when cleaning, maintenance CMs use black lights to be able to tell which cobwebs and dust are supposed to be there, and which cobwebs and dust have to be removed.

I hate to tell you but the air you breath has just as much dirt in it , if not more depending on where you live, so I dont think those little lungs should be worried! I would worry more about lungs walking through a smoking area. Which I wish they would ban ( yea ex smoker)...It would be interesting though to see how they do clean the attraction and what it would be like to wander around in there when its empty ...To cool in my book!
