Keeping an eye on Tropical Weather 2024

Thanks, however as an international guest we don't have a car and I'm not too familiar with those services. By the time I saw that message on the up we were already blocked in our room. They could have left a message on the room phones. Honestly as a guest the communication hasn't been great, I have only found out about the packages on this thread! No one told us anything.

In regards to damage we are at on the second storey and we got water in the room during the night!
Hopefully people didn't get too much damage.
I agree; while Disney has been great in many ways; the communication (as unfortunately is somewhat common forcthe company for those familiar) has been pretty lacking. There really has been no communication or inconsistent in advance which is frustrating.

I absolutely believe there should have been at the very least a mass mssg sent to all rooms about what to expect (not everyone has/monitors/or even knows how to work the app like an expert.) I do, but even for me the communication seemed very poor. - I would have nevef known about the shelter-in-place if I hadn't read about it here as I didn't get the notification until around 9pm. I know with a storm/weather there are lots if uncertainties and again in the big picture they have taken great care of us, but communication is also important and there just hasn't been much.

I’m glad!

I have a friend who lives in Golden Oak and they lost power overnight. Not sure if it’s just her house or if others are affected. I’m surprised because I thought everything on property was underground.
I believe it was more than just one house. Some friends were spending the night at a friend's house there and they lost power about midnight.

I was just watching that. Crazy. They said a lot of national guard and safety crews and line crews were being staged there. Hopefully all are good.
They left before the roof got torn off according to a press conference from our governor a few minutes ago. The cots were still down on the field. The fabric-like roof was rated for ~110-115 mph.

Call me crazy but it seems kind of low to install a fabric roof rated at 110mph for a major stadium basically by the water
Agreed. They just approved a few months ago a new stadium that should be rated much higher and actually should allow natural light in it (my nickname for Tropicana Field is/was The Dungeon). I suspect they will look at the new build with much more diligence relating to wind ratings, etc.

I am supposed to fly Monday 10/14 to Orlando for a 5 day parks trip. Staying at Coronado Springs. Can’t decide if I should cancel. I am glad to hear many are safe.

I see zero reason you'd need to cancel. The live webcams on WDW show even very little vegetation on the grounds and I think (again I"m not there, but by seeing) there's very little if any damage. It sounds like MCO is fine as well.

I just saw a picture of the MK main st flooded. Has anyone heard anything? Are the Utilidoors flooded?
The pictures are AI generated fakes. Take a look at them closely, the castle, tree and store placement aren't even close to correct, and the castle itself isn't correct.

They are circulating widely and there are news reports debunking them.

I can imagine looking at this on a cell phone with bad lighting/eyes and believing they're real but look at them for a few seconds on a computer and its plain to see how AI generated they are. I mean the trees are perfectly still and bushes/water is calm and weird color.
And also, as any true WDW fan should be able to immediately discern, nothing is in the correct place and the castle is wrong.

I just saw him post that on twitter and I’m floored and deeply worried that people can’t spot obvious fakes like this. GenAI was truly a mistake.
Agreed. I just really wish people would pause for a minute here and refrain from posting unconfirmed information and rumors. This perpetuates misinformation and gives airtime to deliberately fake news stories, which can actually be dangerous during times of heightened stress like this. Disney and Universal and MCO and all other decision-makers/authorities will do their jobs, assess the situation, and pass along REAL information as soon as they have it.

Jambo House this morning. I think it’s where the gym entrance is. They have been wonderful and there’s a lot of attentiveness to every guest it seems. The bar was open all night and has been open all morning, same with Boma and The Mara.

I never got a push notification about the shelter in place, I read about it here. But there was a sign when I walked around this morning announcing it, I was already back to my room when they put it up I think. I’ve been on hold for almost 2 hours trying to see if they can help just plop our planned day into tomorrow but I fear that will take significant fairy dust and my friend sorta doesn’t get that, still. Oh well, hopefully mco does open tonight and we can depart on schedule Friday evening.

I've seen this sentiment a bunch - and you could legitimately spend years covering the criticism of the design of that building.

But it survived an operational lifetime (almost 35 years). I mean, if you're the executives making that call, it was a successful decision - it accomplished what it was built to do.

The issue is that it was built long before it ever had a team. They were trying to build something so they could quickly snatch an MLB team if one came available. They felt it needed to be indoor to work in Tampa, and they didn't have the resources to build something like SkyDome in Toronto, which would've been the sturdier option in that era.

The real criticism here is that the building is still in use - it should have been replaced years ago. It's objectively one of the worst MLB stadiums in history.
