Katy Perry on Sesame Street

That much cleavage and sesame street don't go together.

As for the song Hot N Cold... doesn't it have a couple profanities in the original?

Why would they be hearing any of her other songs??

California Girls is on the latest edition of Kid Bops.

My 4 year old niece loves the song and knows and sings all the lyrics. It's actually quite cute to hear. Her older cousin was watching the video on youtube and she saw it. Now, every time the computer is on she asks to see the video. Little kids don't sexualize things the way that adults do.

There are always some ultra conservative people that feel like their beliefs should dictate what the rest of us see and hear. They are making too big a deal over this. My feeling is, if you don't like the way she's dressed, you can change the channel.

They also clean up the lyrics on Kid Bops. My point was the lady was saying that kids dont know what is approiate to sing and what isnt of her songs and I was pointing out that if you monitor it they wouldnt hear it.
I have no problem with the video or Katy I have her first cd but I do not let my DD even at 4 mos listen to it. None of my niece, who range from 2 weeks to 10 listen to it either.
Also for the person who asked about profanity and Hot and Cold. One word yes Witch with a B is in the song at the beginning.

My kids are all way past the Sesame Street age here, but I just watched the clip on Youtube. I was ok with the outfit, but my 11-year old son thought the top was too low cut for a children's show. He said, "How come that didn't notice that immediately and refilm it with another outfit?"

I thought that was so stinkin cute! I love Katy Perry though....and Sesame St. so maybe I am biased.
But really people do need to just chill out already, whats the big deal?

I don't mind Katy Perry, but Sesame has to be a place where kids can go and not be over-exposed to todays lack of good judgement. Would any one go into their kids school as a parent dressed in a low cut "jiggly" outfit. I would hope not. :rotfl: And, come on, Katy's video was cute with Elmo, but have you seen her new "peacock" video and song...... kids don't know which of her songs are okay to sing and which ones aren't.
Thanks. Check out California Gurls. "Make your lolipop melt"

I'm waiting for Lady Gaga to show up. She'd be perfect with the "little monsters." I wonder how the Disco Stick song will play out with Elmo.

Little kids don't oversexualize, they just become numb to it. When an elementary school decides its ok to give 7yos sex ed classes, without a parent's consent, and hand them and SHOW them how to use a condom, then there is aproblem in this society. Sex has become ok for the little ones. Why should we teach our kids any kind of decency, and instead why don't we just let them do what they want, because everyone else is dong it.

Actually the phrase is "Sun kissed skin so hot will melt you popsicle.":)

I love Katy Perry but I do think her top was just a little bit too revealing for Sesame Street.

I'm not sure what elementary school you send your kids to, but the don't have any kind of sex ed at our schools until they are 13. If your school is showing 7yr olds how to use condoms, then your district has some big problems.

ITA! And even @ 13/14 the consent note still has to be signed by a parent. I think my parents still had to sign those things when I was in HS. lol

No, there is a problem in your school district.

I don't get it. I just watched the video and it seems just fine. People are crazy with too much time on their hands.

Seriously.

Of course, I completely remember when Lil' Darlings came out, and even though I only ever saw it later, on TV all edited, it was still a naughty presence in our world (in other words, there's NOTHING new about kids knowing about something vague out there that was naughty). And during the 5th grade camping trip, there were schoolmates of mine that were getting *awfully* close to needing to know how to use a condom (there were also some boys in the class who were routinely stoned). We didn't get sex ed until 6th grade. Ruh roh. Would 7 yo have been too early? Yep. But 6th was a little too late for some of the kids in my class...and 13/14 like others are saying? Yikes!

But none of that is caused by showing a 2 year old a woman wearing a pretty dress that just happens to show a little cleavage. Then again, from the world I live in, a 2 year old is still nursing quite a bit, so that's the only thing they would think of, and an older child might still be nursing but would still remember them as being food sources...

AGain, I think the controversy was started (and all of our reactions were primed by the media or of reading the "dirty" comments that nasty people made...) by those comments that people made. I think that if they had NOT released the clip, and it was just on while our little ones were watching, it would have been fine, and people would have just noticed how adorable she is while talking to him like she's a kid, and how frustrated she was while trying to play with him and not realizing she was actually playing tag. :)

The funny thing is the kids watching SS are not going to be sexualizing Katy's breasts, its all the parents that see them as sexual objects.
Its no big deal, my kids see the same jiggling when we spend the day at the beach, or even our pool, and I'm pretty sure they've never noticed.

Any body part that is 80-90% fat is going to jiggle, even if she's standing still and the wind blows the right way. :rotfl2: I didn't even notice any jiggling though. Parents seriously need to get a grip.

I watched this and reposted it on facebook cause I thought it was funny and awesome. I wish they had done that stuff when I was little. But yeah parents over react some times and in the end they will not be airing that part of the episode cause they got complants...I'd understand if she hadn't changed the lyrics, but please this is just sad that they think its still to adult for kids.

I think it is a sad commentary on our times when this makes headline news...If with everything going on in the world today we can find nothing better than to worry about a little breast jiggle, we have WAY too much time on our hands.

I don't think the poster was saying it happened in THEIR district, they were just commenting on an actual event that was in the news recently. I don't remember where it happened, but I read about it on CNN.

Oh, then there is a problem in that school district.

I'm happy to hear that Elmo has extened an invitation to "Miss Katy" to come back to Sesame Street to play anytime. I hope she takes him up on it, because I thought she did a great job adapting her song for the show.

wow. some people just have too much time on their hands to worry about a bit of jiggling! Does no one play on the beach with their kids in a swim suit? Guess what? YOU jiggle too!!

Its a cute video of Katy and Elmo.

There are a lot of adults that come on SS. If they tried to find only those that are morally perfect--there would be none. If your child knows that a certain singer is a herion addict then your child is watching a lot more than SS and maybe that is what you need to be concerned about.

Nobody sees more real life breast than a toddler. Most kids see mom's girls more than dad does, for sure. Very young children really are impervious to this sort of thing. I liked the duet and my kids thought it was great.

My kids love Katy Perry's and Lady Gaga's songs, though. I see no need to make a big deal out of sheltering them from something they only understand in innocent terms anyway.

So how many times have they listened to "I Kissed A Girl?" Perhaps SS should have Katy come back and do a duet with Miss Piggy to that song. I mean wouldn't that be all innocent because kids see kissing all the time? I weep for the future and the sad state of parenting in this country. Parents need to stop trying to be buddies and be actual parents.
