Katy Perry on Sesame Street

So how many times have they listened to "I Kissed A Girl?" Perhaps SS should have Katy come back and do a duet with Miss Piggy to that song. I mean wouldn't that be all innocent because kids see kissing all the time? I weep for the future and the sad state of parenting in this country. Parents need to stop trying to be buddies and be actual parents.

I weep for the futiure and the sad state of adults who see sex in every little thing and want to shelter the youth because of their own hang-ups.

Katy Perry just poked fun at the whole Sesame Street appearance controversy in the first sketch of this week's Saturday Night Live. It was good to see her having such a sense of humor about this tempest in a teapot.

And my Katy:lovestruc sang "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream" on the same show. I loved seeing her, and she was so adorable, but frankly, she doesn't sound as good live as she does on the records. At least, we didn't hear any rapping during CG.:)

Katy's my girl.

As for the SESAME STREET clip, she is pretty and princessey. Although I'd rather wanted to see her in something more modest.

I loved the sesame street gig!! she was soo cute lol

:thumbsup2
I grew up listening to Madonna singing "Like a Virgin", George Micheal singing " I want your sex" and yet somehow I grew up,did not become a prostitute, did not become a derelict , and have a college degree..go figure.

I think your user profile tag line says it all : "When I drink I find its easier to watch my children because I see all 3 of them double, so all 6 of them of them take all my attention."

The first thing that pops into my head....to the people who think Katie Perry is a poor role model for preschoolers...how do your kids know who she is? Do they listen to her on the radio? watch her videos on MTV? They do not know who she is and if she kissed a girl. A preschooler should think she's a funny girl singing a cute song with elmo. Katie Perry or any other TV star, reality star, football, basketball player, singer or actress should not be your childs role model. That's your job.
Her shirt was to low cut? In the history of TV, have you never seen a childrens show that was filmed at the beach? My goodness, flesh was shown:scared1:
Worried about morals? What will scar your children?
Barbie and Ken can get naked
A strange man molests Sleeping Beauty in attempt to wake her up
Snow White? Don't feed kids apples
Cinderella? Cruelty at its best.
My point is that you can dissect anything to death. That's not what kids see.
And don't even get me started about muesums!
Oh, by the way...8 days to Disney:goodvibes

Yes, that's exactly my point. If my kids heard that song- and they haven't becuase it doesn't get much air play on the radio station we listen to- they would simply assume that she kissed a girl, just like I kiss a girl when I kiss my daughter. They just don't see or hear the dirty yet. There will be a time as they get older when they understand the lyrics, but then we'll talk about them rather than ban the music. When I was in junior high I giggled like a manic every time BonJovi sang that they'd "make it" in Livin on a Prayer. And you know, I turned out just fine. I'm a tax payin', chuch goin', job holdin', married and monogamous adult. I'm really not understanding the "weeping" for our children. I'd be much more inclined to weep in a society where art is censored to the point that the mere hint of cleavage is taboo. I'm WAY more worried about my kids seeing violence than I am about Katy Perry's ta tas.

If your definition of art is Katy Perry then there's no point in having this discussion. This way of parenting is also why we see 10 year olds wearing shorts that say "Sexy" on their butts. :sad2:

:lmao: You don't know anything about the kind of parent I am, except that I don't get hyper about cleavage. I am not interested in being my child's BFF, I'm their mom. As their parent, I have no issues with them seeing less cleavage on Katy than they do on me, frankly. Trust me, small children see a lot of mom's cleavage, they don't give moms much privacy when showering, getting dressed, etc.

Music, in all forms, is art. Art, be it a beautiful flower painting or a statue of a nude person, is still art. I saw nothing wrong with Katy Perry and her outfit. You see way more than that at the beach or pools (and yes, even at Disney pools!).

Man... I really wish we had a "like" button on the Disboards like facebook :)--

Anyways- KP outfit was fine. As many pointed out- Disney princess have many more revealing outfits.

The comment that I heard on tv that had me ROLLING on the floor laughing was "I am so upset by Katy Perry's outfit- my son cried for milk after watching it!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: So funny!!!

Some additional points: Someone who has a drug addiction does not make them an inhumane person... As someone else said- unless that are showing kids how to shoot up- then their personal struggles with addiction are of no concern to me.

The whole parents need to stop being their kid's friend and start parenting comment is really just cruel and judgmental-- Parents have very VERY different approaches in parenting, and no way, short of neglect and abuse is right or wrong. It is simply what works for your family.

I am probably one of the strictest parents among my circle of friends. We don't tolerate back talk, sassiness, or poor grades. But I am also their friend. We talk to each other, we play together, we run together, etc. We are friends, and that is not a negative thing. Now- the line is very clear however. The minute that it is crossed I, like most parents, go right back into being the MOM.

IDK- if you don't like the program- turn the channel!!

You don't get around internet message forums too much do you?

I think we need to stop being judgemental about peoples parenting skills. There are no awards given out for being the "best parent" afaik

Are you kidding me? Think back a few years. Was your radio tuned to "Onward Christian Soldiers" or "Ave Maria"? I doubt it. My daughter likes songs that make my skin crawl but you know what-it's part of growing into being adults. My mom couldn't stand a lot of my music and her mother hated Elvis.

We've all grown into mature adults who love our families and contribute to society.

Instead of becoming judgmental and forming harsh attitudes about other people, I'd rather have my daughter listen to "I Kissed a Girl". Lesbians, gays, and bisexuals are good people too.

We have 2 grown sons who are professionals and great guys. They listened to 80's and 90's music but they survived.

I don't understand your point. Why shouldn't children hear "I Kissed a Girl" or see Katy Perry do a duet of that song (although Miss Piggy isn't the obvious choice, because she prefers male frogs)?

It's kind of a moot point isn't it? I mean the will of the majority of people won out (that majority includes me) and and the episode won't be shown. I mean, if it wasn't a problem then SS would have told those who objected to get bent. Just that alone makes me giggle because it causes the PC crowd such heartburn and distress. Need anything else clarified?

No, actually the whining of a minority won (if you can call it winning because the truth is KP appearing on SS isn't that big of a deal to anyone). Thats always the case with these type of things, some small group of people cry foul and then they think they get their way, but what they are really doing (besides making themselves a laughing stock to the majority) is doing who/whatever they are whining about a huge publicity favor. Really its kind of ironic, SS and KP probably never had this much free exposure and your kids who you want to shield from the evils of each will end up knowing more about them than you ever wanted, which always makes me giggle. ;)

I'm about as far from PC as anyone can be but that doesn't mean I believe in censorship.
