Katy Perry on Sesame Street

No, actually the whining of a minority won (if you can call it winning because the truth is KP appearing on SS isn't that big of a deal to anyone). Thats always the case with these type of things, some small group of people cry foul and then they think they get their way, but what they are really doing (besides making themselves a laughing stock to the majority) is doing who/whatever they are whining about a huge publicity favor. Really its kind of ironic, SS and KP probably never had this much free exposure and your kids who you want to shield from the evils of each will end up knowing more about them than you ever wanted, which always makes me giggle. ;)

If folks such as yourself actually had a majority then we wouldn't be having this conversion so your attempt at a rebuttal makes no sense but whatever makes you feel better. At least you're smart enough to recognize that it is an "evil" so there may be hope for you after all. BTW, my kids are way past the SS stage so once again a moot point. :dance3:

Well according to SS those complaining were close, but not quite over 51% of people who gave feedback on the video, which, unless math has changed, makes that the minority ;) However you are right its a moot point, KP has been invited to come back, she may be dressed differently, maybe covered from head to toe in a sheet, but she will still be singing with Elmo, or maybe she will do that duet with Miss Piggy.
And seeing how your kids are past the SS stage I'm sure they know of KP and if they didn't before all this, they will now, which was my point. Those who complain only make the one they are complaining about more accessible to the precious youth they are trying to shield. Now, had they turned the TV off when KP was on, that would have worked and the kids wouldn't have been the wiser.
Oh, and no need to flatter yourself thinking I feel KP is evil, that was my reference to what those in that less than 50% feel, and you can be sure that I'm not one of them :)

Just that alone makes me giggle because it causes the PC crowd such heartburn and distress. Need anything else clarified?

The thought of a grown man giggling makes me giggle...:rotfl2: BTW, the video is adorable, and all of my kids listen to top 40, sing along, and have absolutely NO idea what the lyrics mean, the same way I had no idea what an afternoon delight was back in the 70's! :cool1: Heck, the lyrics go over my head - I just enjoy the music.

Just to humor you I did ask my DD about the songs and she still doesn't know them so, once again, a little parenting goes a long way. Maybe you should try it. As for your numbers, it's difficult to read your writing as it is so pardon my confusion. In any case, the KP episode was pulled so we know who the real winners are even if you can't come to terms with it. I won't continue to try to argue with someone ill-equipped to participate so I'll leave now to your own mumblings.

Do your children leave the house? Not only do my kids know that song, but so do everyone one of their friends - they all sing together. Do your children have friends? Play at other people's homes? Or did they inherit your oh so lovely personality...

They just have morals, values and common sense. Those seems to be a strange concepts to many of you. If you've given up as a parent just admit it and move on. Why keep trying to justify yourselves? :confused3

Seriously, the PC police need to take a chill. Breasts are a natural part of women's bodies. They're made of fat, hence, they jiggle. Kids see worse at Walmart.

The sad thing is I sort of feel sorry for the pp, something tells me he is going to be in for a rude awakening someday, hopefully it will be nothing more than catching his kid humming a Katy Perry tune.

And you're saying our kids have no morals or common sense? Give it up dude, you're kids probably know more about things than you think they do and if I had a dad with you're attitude I'd never tell him anything I knew either.

It's kind of a moot point isn't it? I mean the will of the majority of people won out (that majority includes me) and and the episode won't be shown. I mean, if it wasn't a problem then SS would have told those who objected to get bent. Just that alone makes me giggle because it causes the PC crowd such heartburn and distress. Need anything else clarified?

I thought you were arguing the PC side, not wanting **** jiggle on tv? :confused3

I think it was a cute enough video. I don't listen to much pop music and consider myself pretty strict about swearing and violence and overtly (and even covertly!) sexual lyrics, but ****s are natural. I breastfeed so my kids wouldn't think anything of seeing cleavage.

I don't think I've given up, just because I don't believe in censoring music (or literature). There are parenting issues that I feel strongly about. My kids have set strict bedtimes. They do homework right after school, and getting B's is frowned upon (because I know there is no reason my kids should get less than A's at this point). There are consequences for any backtalk or disrespect (which is very rare). They are to be nice to each other and others, I don't tolerate lying, cheating, or stealing. They need to dress appropriately for every situation (except for weather - if they're cold, too bad).

So far, so good. Not an ounce of trouble. Oldest hasn't even asked to start dating, is a high honor student, in the choir, and her friends are wonderful. She knows the rules, and so far, seems to be following them. I expect her to make stupid mistakes, and hopefully, she will learn from them. I do give her freedom, and I know that, someday, there will be a time where she will make the wrong choice. That's how you learn.

Our household is very music-based. Dd14 and ds12 are into musical theater, dd9, dd7, and ds7 into dance. My DH has a minor in music, and was always in a band, from grade 6 until the age of 30 (lead singer/guitar). Someone here is always singing, dancing, playing instruments (flute, clarinet, violin, guitar, yukalaylee, mandolin). Dance mixes, classic rock, heavy metal, irish fiddle - it's all good.

First things first, I would have totally been excited to see this segmant air on TV. Katy Perry is such a down to earth person. And that song was perfect for the show.

Second of all, I was beginning to think I was the ONLY person who noticed first off that her dress was actually made like that of an ice skater...with the sheer fabric on the top. And I saw no jiggle to be totally honest (I've watched the video a half dozen times just to see if I did see any jiggling). That being said...my son sees worse when we go grocery shopping or out to dinner or out shopping at the mall.

Personally, even though I LOVE Lady Gaga's songs, I'd be more offended to see her on SS in one of her many costumes (or sometimes lack there of).

Lastly, maybe I missed it, did the clip originally air on the SS website...or what? Is that something new they are going to do so that only non-influential skits get aired on the show so as not to offend (what appears) to be a minority of people? And heck, if the clip was only post on YouTube by SS, how the heck did these people offended by it find it anyhow? I mean, what were you doing on YouTube in the first place? KWIM?
That being said, on to my replies:

So how many times have they listened to "I Kissed A Girl?"

You better sit down...your head will literally SPIN 360 exorcist style when I tell you this...

My 3 year old son sings Katy Perry's California Curl. He also sings Lady Gaga's Bad Romance, Poker Face, and Just Dance. Not to mention a handful of others that you would most likely find offensive.

Guess I'm out of the running for parent of the year. :rotfl:

Need anything else clarified?

Why yes I do...I'm just curious...if your children are past the SS watching age, why do you even care whether or not it would have been shown on TV? :confused3

Well said! :)

I find it...interesting that a parent with kids PAST the SS watching age is even bothering with conversation on this thread. Ok, maybe you're old enough to have grandkids who would be "influenced" by the skit...I get it. Even then, my mom (who has 3 grandkids) wasn't offended by it. She didn't understand why people had a fit over it.

Hmmm...here's a thought for those of us who WEREN'T offended by the skit...perhaps we have a write in campaign to Seasame Street and get them to actually air the skit on TV. Just a thought.

How is it moot? You brought up the point after the skit was taken down, so it's in the conversation. SS made the video and didn't think there was anything wrong with it. If they'd known that people whose children are past SS age were the ones making the complaints, they probably wouldn't have taken it down, but I suspect those objectors didn't make their full story known.

You haven't clarified anything yet, so please clarify your objection to the song "I Kissed a Girl" and explain how Katy Perry singing a duet of it with Miss Piggy would be objectionable.

Great idea! I've already submitted my request that SS air the skit.
