Kansas DVC-ers?

Looks like MWA is stopping direct flights to Orlando from Kansas City.
I noticed the other day that MWA flights for the winter/spring to Orlando were taking 3 hops instead of being non-stop. Very sad since most of those planes were full on Saturday mornings. I guess you have to cut the good with the bad. SWA is our only non-stop from KC now. That will be a scramble at the popular vacation times!

Hi everybody we live in Topeka and own at SSR, we have been members since 2004. Looking forward to a one night stay at SSR before our cruise in Dec. A direct flight on SWA was $299 per person:eek: more than double last year.

Hi everyone. We are DVC'rs in Olathe. Our next trip is October. I about had a coronary when I had to pay $275 rt on SW. When we bought DVC I was paying around $100-125 rt. We now have a SW visa that we are using to help earn free flights. We certainly won't be able to go as many times this year with the cost of flights.

We have a trip planned for Feb, and will probably use SWA since we have a credit with them. They actually lowered the price of the flight for our cruise in September and we happened to catch them and get the difference.

Unfortunately, they have not started taking reservations for Feb yet.

And now I think that they will be the only airline flying direct into Orlando. I will usually pay a bit extra to fly direct, so MWA is probably losing my business.

MWA is discontinuing its Orlando non-stops from KC. We had one booked for December and got the cancellation e-mail day before yesterday. Eeek. We scrambled and got re-booked on SWA w/in 12 hours at an increase of about $300.

It's gonna be tough, now, isn't it?

Same here. Midwest refunded my tickets for a trip November 10-17 to AKV. Looking for alternatives and during that time frame it looks like Delta is the cheapest although has a layover in Atlanta. Southwest is over twice as much for the non-stop version:eek:

I just booked a flight from Wichita to MCO on Airtran. Last time we flew SWA out of KC, but didn't feel like driving to KC this time.

I have a 2-hour layover in Atlanta, and I dislike the Atlanta airport. Oh well, it was the cheapest flight that I could find and the flight times were good for me, so I booked it. Since I will be flying alone, it's not that big of a hassle.

Looks like AirTran is flying direct. I just priced one out for Feb @ $226/person.

I believe that Southwest and Airtran are now our only two options for direct flights from MCI. Does anyone know of any other non-stop flights from MCI.

I'm looking at AirTran's website and can't find anything direct; all have one layover, usually in Atlanta. Where are you finding your flight?

For those of you who have flown on AirTran, how's the leg room compare to SWA?

I'm so glad this got bumped! We live in Wichita and own at SSR.

To go with the current topic of the thread, we used to fly Allegiant direct from Wichita. Since they have now discontinued that we will be flying Delta in January when we go to run the marathon. They seem to be the cheapest lately.

I got it from mobissimo who redirected me to orbitz. The dates I searched for were Feb 21-March 1 if that helps.

Just searched and it was still coming up.
Sat, Feb 21 Depart: 7:00 am Kansas City, MO (MCI) AirTran Airways 857

Arrive: 10:35 am Orlando, FL (MCO)

Sun, Mar 1 Depart: 7:30 pm Orlando, FL (MCO) AirTran Airways 858

Arrive: 9:15 pm Kansas City, MO (MCI)

I was cruising AirTran's website. Looks like nonstops are on Saturdays and Sundays only.

We were booked on a direct from MCI on a Monday and returning on a Saturday in November and both were changed. I'd be surprised in the long run with the airlines cutting back if the MCI to MCO directs survive but hopefully for all of you KCers they do. We just lost our Allegiant directs from ICT not long ago.

We are from Wichita and fly out of here. We usually fly AirTran to Orlando with a layover in Atlanta since they have discontinued the Saturday direct flights. However, for some reason the week we are going in October, it was going to cost about $400 for a roundtrip Wichita to Orlando. I checked Tampa and it was only $250 roundtrip. We were going to rent a car either way so we decided we could handle the 45 minute drive for the $300 savings ($150 x 2). Also, Tampa airport is quick and easy to get around.

Never thought about Tampa airport. Thats a good idea for the future. We got lucky on our November trip that Airtran cancelled our flight so we got ICT flights at lower MCI direct cost. But in the future we'll have to keep this in mind.

Just curious how many Wichita DVCers there are on this board? If you are lurking let us know.

Wow, look at all the Wichitans!! Hey neighbor-neighbors!
:thumbsup2

*waves*

Booked a flight from Wichita with layover in Atlanta. I must say that it gets increasingly hard to find discounted fares. Even the discounted fares aren't very discounted.

I signed up for DING on Southwest to find deals out of Kansas City, Tulsa, and OKC and even those DING rates aren't particularly low, so I decided to just fly out of Wichita and not have to drive out of town.

Anyone thinking of adding on at BLT?? We are considering it.
