Well darn.

I woke up to two fraud alerts from Visa. Apparently someone was using my visa card at a Florida sports company and then tried to use it at some sort of financial institution....all at about 4-5 am this morning.

This card stays with all my store cards and other plastics in a little rubber band wad in my purse. I kept my ID and AMX and other visa with me at all times. I did leave my purse, with this particular visa, with my luggage back in our cabin while we toured and now my visa is missing and being used.

I basically set my purse down, removed my little ID/charge card pouch, put it in my backpack, and the purse, with this visa, stayed in the cabin for 8 days without moving.

I just canceled the card. We usually keep the privacy card on our hotel doors because I've seen too many youtube videos of housekeepers rifling through belongings, but this time, we used mousekeeping. Has anyone else had anything missing from their belongings?

(and a side note....no one ever has access to my purse. Ever. These cards are buried far down inside my purse. )

Sorry this happened to you.
If you think it was stolen from your cabin I'd call and talk to the Fort manager.

Well that sucks!

A friend of mine had multiple items (jewelry, medication, ipad etc) stolen and the room door left open in a DVC unit. I can't remember which hotel it was but she was really upset. Disney didn't do much for her.

About 6 months later I read an article about a Disney housekeeper arrested for theft, so I definitely does happen. Sorry it happened to you.

I hope you get it all resolved easily.

The thing is, I have no way of proving that. I know my own habits and that I stay with my purse at all times (except that one week), I haven't had anyone in my home and no one has access to my purse. The only time, ever, this card has been available for taking was this past week in the cabin.

It's just one of those things, unfortunate as it may be, that can happen. I just wanted to give a heads up. Lock up your valuables. Honestly, I had just forgotten to take this visa with me when we toured.

If you let them know that there was an issue without pointing fingers, it creates a trail. Any further problems that may have seemed coincidental may be tracked back to a common person.

Exactly my thoughts. Also it's been used in Fl, I'd say it was stolen in Fl.

I decided to go ahead report it in case others had experienced it too. I have spoken with the manager, the security guy and they insisted I report it to the sheriff. So that's all been done.

The two curious instances that stand out to me are this: Halfway into our trip, our DD reported their windows were now unlocked when they had been locked before.
Also, they put a do not disturb/Privacy sign on the door and DD was about to nurse her baby at 10-12 in the morning and was sitting topless, when a mousekeeper walked in on her. With the sign in place.

I normally get in an argument with my DH because I don't want anyone, mousekeeping included, in my room, where I am keeping my personal items. I guess even with the sign out, they have access and trust is needed. So now that the trust has been violated, I really can only use safes or not bring anything valuable...medicines, computers, etc that would be left out.

Btw....while googling for thefts at disney world, I came across this thrilling retelling of how a family recovered their stolen goods at Disney using a Find my Iphone app! What an exciting tale, oh my goodness!! http://www.davelongstrethmusic.com/archives/231

I wish stealing didn't exist as I like to always think the best of everyone. I don't want to be jaded. :)

We got home from a trip to Disney years ago and someone sole the number off my disney visa card and was shopping with it. They shopped to the tune of over $7,000.
I didn't even know it until Disney Visa called me and told me. I wouldn't even talk to the person who called or give any info, I told them I would call Disney Visa myself and see.
It was Disney Visa calling and they took off all the charges and I got a new card in like two days.
I think the card number was taken at one of the flea market place as that was the only time someone had my card without me watching them ringing up the order.
I'm so sorry this happened to you, but I do think you need to report it.
This maybe the lead that will bring the crook down.

Unfortunately the safes are not safe. The lady they caught a while back was actually caught taking money out of the room safe. You can buy an inexpensive lock box that can be cabled to a piece of furniture in the room.
