Just returned from a short stay at the BC and I have to say I am surprised about the bad press it has been getting lately the grounds are in great shape along with the reno'd pools. The rooms do show there age but remind you of all the memories that have been made over the years. However, the resort was very peaceful and relaxing so you do not hear must foot traffic in the hallways (even for the race this weekend).

I do worry about the staff in the lobby though when you checkin. I understand that Disney has made a big investment in its college program lately and are replacing many full time staff. This was apparent when we checkin since all the people at the front desk were college students. I am for providing these young adults work experience and grooming them for potential futures with disney, but they need to have some adult supervision. There were 12 people behind the desk and many of them were standing around talking to each other will the line got longer and longer. I am sure they were well staffed for the race participants checking in but having them stand talking to each other just did not sit will with the people in line. A supervisor would have been nice to get them moving along. This did not ruin the experience but does change the perception of the legendary service we expect from Disney, and a main point in why we purchased.

I had a similar experience with the Beaches and Cream Ice Cream. This is a tradition when ever we visit we make a trip to get a banana split. Well the the place is not very big but they do pack the people in the place. When we visited they had 3 waiter/waitresses, 2 kids at the to go area, one cook, one bartender, and 5 girls I guess making the ice cream items (actually one girl did everything). Well the wait staff was fantastic and were much older than the rest of the kids are waiter had been there 18 years. They working their rear ends off and were struggling to keep up with bussing tables and getting orders out. As happens often 5 tables get up at the same time to leave. Well the five girls the bar tender and the carryout kids standing around talking and making jokes while the tables just sit their with dirty dishes. Never did anyone offer to help bus any table and the wait staff got to them when they made sure all their customers were taken care of. what really got me was when the five people eating got up from the bar the guy responsible for that area continued to talk and left the bar full of empty dishes. Once again no adult supervision. Finally a manager came out and he was not a student, but my wife and I laughed since he was so young that he was probably a grad student. Well I figured he would right the ship but he just went to the girls and talked with them and then walked back out again. Like I said the experience was not ruined because of "Bill" our waiter.

Disney needs to get a hold of this program and provide better training or more adult supervision in my opinion before its legendary serve takes a hit. Wow that is enough for today!

I'm so glad you had a positive experience with BCV. I was there in January, and also thought everything was beautiful. I agree about the new CMs though. One time I was standing next to the lobby concierge at another hotel, and heard guests ask the young CM how to get to the Beach Club for the character meal. The CM was very insistent that there was no character meal at the Beach Club. Those poor guests! I was so glad I was there.

Agreed about the young CMs....why do they hire them if they don't have the Disney knowledge of at least the DIS Level?!:mic:

Can you give any more info on the refurb? Were you in a DVC room? Any info on that would be great!! We are booked at BCV for May and I'm getting nervous about the refurb time frame - wondering if we should move??

Do you remember seeing any grills at the villas?
I went on the 5th floors and did not see any construction going on for the section I saw. i did not walk the entire floor and I did not hear any construction going on (Friday). I do not think much was going on as this was the race weekend and I am sure they did not want anymore of a disturbance. We stayed on the 4th floor (447) and it still was the old room. I think some construction must be going on since that floors hallways where very cold compared to the rest. The pool refurb either has not started or is finished. I could not tell as it looked the same and in good repair. Like I posted in the earlier thread trying to get anything knowledgeable from these young CM's was futile. Heading back the first week in March and staying at VGF so I will try to find someone with knowledge when we head over that way for a Banana Split.

I had a reverse experience at VGF this month... the full-time "adults" at that villa were not helpful at all. In fact, one time I waited while the CM not helping anyone was clicking away at the computer. That CM ended up helping me 5m later when a manager walked out from the back and asked them to help me. Whereas my experience with the college aged CMs at GF were very prompt. Even when they were in mid conversation with each other, they stopped when I walked towards them.

Can't say that we experienced the same this past December...We had a split stay, 2 nights AKV Jambo, 2 nights VGF. We had FABULOUS customer service at both.:thumbsup2 I was concerned about check in experience at AKV Jambo because I read some negative comments. We had a small "glitch" with MB's and the staff at AKV was very eager to help. :goodvibes

Ha! Most of the teenagers I come across don't even seem to know how to speak - they are always on their phones!

that's perfect! Since Disney is moving to Direct-To-Room...if I have a problem, I should be able to text it right? :rotfl: So the question is, do I have to learn text messaging short hand???

This is the first time I experienced this myself and I am not sure if it is just a BC issue or not. I did spend Valentine night at the SSR and the service was outstanding. However, the young CM at the front desk of DVC sales was lacking in knowledge and I had to help him out with some other members. This did not bother me since he probably was enlisted to take us through the models since we were already members and mentioned we were not interested in purchasing.
