Just a Dream Away- The Imagineering Thread*Are you curious, imaginative, dedicated?

Yes! I hate that! They just want to be WDIs because they think it sounds cool... Grrz

Don't get me wrong, we all start somewhere ignorant of WDI for the most part.

But its the hard work that comes after the initial spark that signifies where you belong.

So how did all of you find out who those people that make the parks are? For me it was books :) the ones by some imagineers. Idk the exact name..

On my second trip to New York (which happened to fall right after the time I became OBSESSED with Disney parks facts), I bought Walt Disney Imagineering: A Behind the Dreams Look at Making the Magic Real at the World of Disney NYC store.

I read every darn word of that annoyingly large book, and I knew that's where I belonged. From there on I bought more books, studied more Disney history (Walt, etc), learned about all of the parks around the globe, blueskyed a few ideas, found my calling (Theater Design), and now I absolutely know where I'm meant to be.

To be honest, I had no idea what Imagineering entailed before. I had wanted to be several things, but none of them felt...right. kwim?

When I first heard about Imagnieering, I thought "That'd be a cool job. I do love Disney" Then I started reading more about it, and I realized that this is what I want to do. This is what I'm good at.

I try and write everyday to improve it. I know how much work I have to do, and how hard this is going to be, but this is the first time time I've thought "This is what I want to do with the rest of my life."

Now, that's perfect. :thumbsup2

Like I said, we were all somewhat ignorant of WDI at first, it was just kind of "oh cool, making Disney rides"

That's exactly what happened with me. I never, ever knew what I wanted to be when I got older, and the more I tried figuring it out, the more confused I got.

The Disney obsession had been quiet my whole childhood (I looked in my photobooks and 90% of my clothes were Disney character-related, plus my childhood DL and TDL trips), but it really hit me these past few years.

I guess you just "know" when its right. I already work in theater, the techniques of which are a huge part of what WDI does in the parks, so when I went to USC and discovered Technical Theater/Theater Design, I was done. No more searching for the right major, no more searching for the right job. I knew I wasn't suited for something "normal".

Same here, the love for disney was always there but I had not realized it.

I have a great photo of me when I'm about 4 on Christmas morning.

I'm wearing Pocahontas pyjamas, opening up a Pocahontas computer game that's wrapped in Pocahontas wrapping paper.

Also I had this freaking awesome sundress that was colored like Esmerelda's.

I was an old MM cartoon fanatic. My mind goes blank whenever i see a MM cartoon haha I love them.

I had always had a love of Disney. I grew up watching the movies, listening to the songs, visiting the parks.

I had a Cinderella birthday party when I was about 4.

I also slightly remember something to do with Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

The Lion King was my first movie.

I used to dance on my dad's briefcase and sing Hakuna Matata at age 2.

I remember one birthday i had. It was a MM birthday party. I cried when they broke my MM piñata and i cried when they got conffeti on my MM cake. Most emmotional day of my life.

xD

I had the best dress-up clothes too.

Ariel mermaid dress, Cinderella's pink gown (this one is really nice), Jane Porter, Megara, Mulan's kimono outfit.

I love how obscure they were compared to now :p

Talking about Disney obsession huh? I've been told I was Dinsey mad all my life. It started the day of my birth, as I slept in a cot with a Mickey Mouse blanket... It's obviously grown since then.

You know what i'd like? A maze in Fantasyland, similar to Disneyland Paris. As i've probably mentioned before, I was disappointed when we went to WDW because i'd been watching Disneyland Paris adverts, and they had one with Alice running through the maze to escape the Queen of Hearts, and I figured they'd have one in Magic Kingdom too...

Yep, an "Alice's Curious Labryinth" would be a great attraction to add, its a shame that the teacups are still stand-alone. I think it would work very well with the Expansion.

As long as it's actually a maze unlike Alice's Curious Labyrinth (watched a video on YouTube) then it'll be awesome. It would also be cool if the random sculptures around it would move. Oh, and the slide worked... How is the Alice in Wonderland ride in Disneyland?

From the original quesiton mentioned with the whole Bambi ride, what about a Fox and the Hound ride? I liked that movie... I can't think of a plot (unless you follow the ending scene)

The Alice in Wonderland ride is pretty good, its pretty much exactly like the one from VMK. (there's a cool outdoor portion, too though), and while I've never ridden on it- I've watche youtube videos.

I agree the Fox and the Hound should be more representated. The question is- where?

I would say Animal Kingdom, but i'm not sure how...
