Just a Dream Away- The Imagineering Thread*Are you curious, imaginative, dedicated?

Me, too haha.

Like Submarine Voyage at DL. Love that they brought it back, hate how cheaply they did it. (Video screens in the water).

Oh I know! lol :]
But, I do love how they refurbished PoTC however many years back in WDW, that was a good move on there part.

Eh. Not in my opinion... I don't mind the figures but I wish they hadn't:
A. Messed with the soundtrack
B. Taken out the talking skull
C. Changed the end scene

A. is whatever, it's onlly for a short scene..
B. doesn't apply to DL, as they had enough room for Davy Jones and the Skull.
C. really affects the story in DL, though... as DL has quite a long detailed build up and a very coherant storyline as compared to the MK.

And I have to add.. WOW I forgot how awesome the DL POTC was until I rode it for the first time in a decade. I have no idea how they could have cut 5-7 min out of it for the WDW version.

Yeah, exactly.

And don't even get me started on TL in DL.

They tried to make a Discoveryland in 1996, but failed miserably. So things that need to come back or added:
The Peoplemover (was replaced by the Rocket Rods which closed about 3 months after they opened)

The Astro Orbitor needs to be on top of the Peoplemover station again.

Star Tours 2.0 [being announced at D23 Expo]

Things that need to go:

Cosmic Waves

The Agrifuture idea (all plants are edible, veggies, fruit, etc)

The rocks at the entrance

Honey, I Shrunk the Audience

lol megan can we keep the d23 expo surprises out of this thread cuz then i wont be surprised by anything xD please

Sorry it's just not really a surprise anymore :p

It's been rumored and gaining a green light for a while.. the Expo will still be surprising trust me I haven't touched on half of the things I know.

It's not like I talked about what Star Tours 2.0 is comprised of.. just that'll be announced.. they'll have plenty more details at the expo.

I disagree, Megan. You don't have to be so literal, you know? Buzz and Monsters Inc. are a good enough fit for Tomorrowland. I like them there. Space isn't technically 'future-related' either, but there's a lot of that theme there.

And I like POTC. Sure, I liked it a tiny bit more before they added all the movie stuff, but I still love it. I think the additions were mostly subtle and tasteful.

i did know tht there was gonna be 2.0 but i was talking in general

but it called tomorrowland

I know I don't have to be so literal. I can live with Buzz, I can slightly attribute him to the future if I try, but Walt's original vision for Tomorrowland was a positive bright hopeful outlook on the future.

I can't figure out Monsters, though. But you're right, it doesn't matter if theme fits anymore, if it's "good enough" the public accepts it.

Space I can count as future-related as a Space Port, as the average public doesn't get the chance to go into space everyday.

But technically, space isn't set in the future. Stitch isn't from the future.

Really, what you're doing is disrespecting the guests. They like Monster's Inc Laugh Floor. Just because it doesn't fit perfectly with the theme, doesn't mean it shouldn't be there. Sometimes imagineers have to realize what's working for the park, instead of just being set on their certain vision.

Walt's original version for EPCOT for an actual city, but that's not possible. That doesn't mean we have to hate the park though, I think they did a good job of it. Just because it was Walt's original version, doesn't mean it's the best idea. I mean, could you see yourself snuggling up to a Mortimer Mouse plushie? Of course not.

I'm not disrespecting the guests, I'm being honest- they couldn't give a hoot about theme. If it's entertaining they'll watch it. I just wish the two could meet a little better.

Again, Space is not the future part, the future part is the average citizen being able to hop on a rocket from a space port and go for a trip through space.

Stitch is another violation I didn't even touch on.

I understand completely where you come from, but when theme violations start dominating the park you lose what made Disney parks, Disney parks. DL after all was the first, true "theme"-centric park.

To touch on your EPCOT post, they didn't try to base the park after his visions. They made it, as they've described, "The Ultimate World's Fair". But, knowing that Walt wanted an EPCOT, and had talked about it on TV, they named it that.

As for Pirates, the only only only problems I have are twisting the soundtrack, taking out the skull in WDW, and changing he final scene.

The rest was done perfectly. If they had to do it, I'm glad they did it they way they did.

she never said she hated all of it and shes just expressing her opinion

since it wasnt really EPCOT they changed the name to Epcot

I love Space Mountain, I reallydo.
I love the TTA/WedWay PM.
I absolutely adore the Carousel of Progress.

I even love Astro Orbiter, it makes the perfect Wienie for the land. (I always mess up the spelling of wienie sorry :p)

I just know Imagineering can easily do better to both interest guests and keep theme in check. DisneySeas is proof of that.

::yes::

Yep exactly. And Epcot has its shares of theme confusion as well, but since it's theme is ambiguous to begin with, I don't mind it so much.

So, since I've mentioned DisneySeas, and we've chatted about OLC's endless supplies of money before I just thought I'd mention a thing or two:

WDW's parks seem to be the ones that that get the most budget-shafts, aside from DCA's original incarnation. I don't know why, I think it's because there's so many one-time tourists they don't think anyone will notice, but it seems like so many things get cut and sliced and over-the-counter rides.

It's sad to think about, and it'll be interesting to see how much of the FL refurb actually comes to fruition. [I'm presuming most of it, as it is WDW's attempt to battle the tiny threat of HP land] :confused3

It's interesting to think about.
