Just a Dream Away- The Imagineering Thread*Are you curious, imaginative, dedicated?

a guy on the backstage magic tour told me tht 70% of WDW guests are return guests and tht number is growing :D

Well that's great to hear =D

Maybe it'll start getting holiday overlays. Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, anyone? ;D

To touch on your EPCOT post, they didn't try to base the park after his visions. They made it, as they've described, "The Ultimate World's Fair". But, knowing that Walt wanted an EPCOT, and had talked about it on TV, they named it that.
Yeah, I didn't say it was based off of his vision, I just said they did a good job of it.
she never said she hated all of it and shes just expressing her opinion
I didn't say she hated it. I said it seemed like she was disrespecting the guests. They like what they like, and I think pleasing the public is more important than having a literal theme.

Maybe I've spent too much time on DL boards, lol. I'm interested in pleasing all guests, but I think customer satisfaction definitely goes up if you please the die-hard Disney fans as much as you please the average guest.

I'm sorry if I seem harsh on WDW, I adore Animal Kingdom, and I try to balance out my critiques/suggestions of it with DLR, and other parks as well.

Also sorry for bouncing around but I've been thinking about my budget comments and want to show the polar opposite of the MK- DLRP.

DLRP has a BEAUTIFUL kingdom-park, but lacks any effort in custodial and matinence. (Totally the opposite of the MK). Did you know the ballroom dancers in Phantom Manor haven't been dancing for like, months?!

I'm so excited for *someone* to return to the HMs in January.. Let's just say he hasn't been seen in person since.. oh August, 1969 ;)

This guy:

The Hatbox Ghost <3 (picture from August 1969)

His effect of his head disappearing and reappearing in a hatbox didn't work so well in 1969, but now they're bringing him back to the attic as Connies "6th Husband", and apparently they've got some new effect to work well.

This has been confirmed by Doombuggies.com as well as Miceage, and will probably be announced at the merchandise event on 9/9/09. (happy 40th HM!)

are you serious?!?!?!!? :D :D

I'm totally serious and I'm totally PUMPED about it. They've made 2 figures, one for DL and one for WDW.

He was only in use for a few days before he was pulled from the attic- he's legendary in HM status.

All us doombugs are totally geeked about it XD

Oh and I don't know if anybody knows who Murphy the dragon is--I'll explain later, but she's finally going to premiere on Monday.

I have to go for a little bit but I'll be back later!

The Hatbox ghost is coming back?!!? Yay!

I read about it on DoomBuggies.com. It sounded really cool even though they couldnt get it to work.

(BTW My computer is acting funny so please dont get mad if there is no apostrophes.)

So are they going to close HM again to put him back in there?

I dunno about WDW, but DL's is already closed in January to take down the NBXmas overlay.

Yep it's official! Like I said, he's legendary in the HM world, and the diehard fans (that's me :cool1:) are crazy excited.

Slightly OT: I love doombuggies.com, its what got me hooked on learning everything about every Disney park.

Okay so I said I'd explain Murphy and here's the deal.

DLR has been promoting it's "Summer Nightastic" shows, to promote attendance in the parks in the summer. These shows include the new fireworks show Magical!, the Pixie Hollow Light Show, The Disney Electrical Parade, and the pièce de résistance, a new, advanced Audio Animatronic dragon for Fantasmic! (nicknamed Murphy)

3 days before the Nightastic promo begins... Murphy's head falls off. Like, snaps off it's neck. Some blame this on the fact she was outsourced to Garner Holt as opposed to being created in-house, but I digress.

So people expect in a few weeks she'll be up and running. Wrong. The doors don't open during testing, and Murphy's reattached head gets smashed.

August 23rd marked the end of the Nightastic programs, and guess what? Murphy didn't make the deadline. Finally, testing has been going weell, and the media has been invited to a 5 AM preformance of Fantasmic! on Monday, in which Murphy will finally make her media premiere. Her public premiere will be Monday night.

This whole thing has been a nightmare for Disney overall, but pictures have been leaked of the elusive dragon, and she looks great! I can't wait until video surfaces of her in action!

YES!!!!
I wonder what they have done to get the Hatbox ghost effect to work?

AWESOME!

I hope they add her to WDW.
The Fantasmic dragon is like a legend with the Disney-hards.

There are rumors popcorn:: that the HBG 2.0 is going to work with projection to match with Connie (which disappoints me...), but they're just rumors for now.

She'd be a great addition to WDW... Too bad WDW doesn't have the sailing ship Columbia for the Peter Pan/Pirates part or the Mark Twain for the end scene. The boat we have for the finale is just pitiful compared to seeing all of the charries dancing on the Mark Twain :rotfl: My only complaint, though, about the WDW Fantasmic! is there are way too many loooong video screens to make up for all that's missing.

I don't mind the projection. It'd probably work better then fiber optics or whatever it is they used in 1969.

If they do add Murphy (Which I really hope they do cause it'll make me want to see Fantasmic! again) they might re-do parts of the show to fit the dragon.

WARNING D23 EXPO SPOILER:

Captain EO has now received the green light to return to Tomorrowland will be announced at the Expo

If you want to discuss this, please PM me, I don't want to ruin it for Luis Enrique. :)

But it is... interesting... to say the least.

They used a spotlight and a scrim back in the day, pretty simple stage-magic.

I hope they add Murphy, too, but it is WDW, and they do often get the shaft on things like Murphy.
