July- Fitness Independence for Hakuna Matata!

Wow..it feel like it's been forever since I've been in here!! I've read through all of the post and caught myself up, but there too much to respond to so I'll just say that...yep, it's hot outside no matter where you go. That sums it up!!

I did also want to welcome Jennifer!! You run at a similar pace to me...I try to slow myself down to pace my long runs making them more of a LSD (long slow distance) run, but my 3-5 milers usually are at or under a pace of 10. I know it's a long shot, but maybe we can find each other for the marathon and run together for a bit since I'm a solo runner too! :woohoo:

OK...quick update then I'm of for a 4.5 mile run. I had been feeling some aches and pains and decided it's time for new hooves (shoes, for those of you that aren't familiar with the movie Freddy Got Fingered). I had been searching relentlessly since my last LR and could not find last years Kayanos at a price similar to what I had paid the last two years. On top of that I had also had plans to buy a rotation shoe this time around to make my pair last through the marathon. Well...my wallet just wasn't having that! I was just about to break down and buy the Asics 2130's, despite the bad reviews I had read, when my wonderful DBF told me that he had ordered me a surprise. I knew what it was right away...my new KAYANOS!! I've also found a way that I can get a paid of Mizuno Wave Inspires for about $50. So I'll have my rotation! I'm like a little kid at Christmas!!! If you would have asked me 3 years ago if I would be excited over running shoes I would have laughed and taken a hit off of a cigarette (as I was eating Taco Bell and drinking a beer). :rotfl:

Yep..that update was not so quick...but yeah..so I have new shoes coming!!
YAY!!!!

Eva Darlin you have as the saying goes, "Come a long way baby". You will find that hooking uup with other WISHers is easy. We have the big meet at Pop on friday evening then we are all in little groups of glowing WISH wear at the staging area of the races. If you look at the pics Robert took and are posted at DisneyRunning.com you will see how we grouped up so we cold find each other.

We saw Hancock yesterday. It has a lot of funny "Man" humor, but it's not the kid movie we expected it to be. Worth the trip.

Now it's back to work today, Yuck!

I'm off to the gym to try my new LSD shoes.

Have a super morning y'all.

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome: Jennifer! You sound likea speedy girl! I will PM you the rules when I get finished with this update for the team. Oh, did I mention that I am the captain of this here ship??? We have a great and diverse team that spans two countries! How is that for cool?? :thumbsup2

It is hot! It is hot and muggy! and yucky! and I can't get up early enough to beat it because it rains all night and humids all day! (That is an expression isn't it?? Humids all day??)

So, on that note, I ordered a dreadmill. I got a really good deal, I think. It had gone down another $100 this week, so I got it. Besides, since I will be doing the Little Rock 1/2 marathon I need it for the hill training! It has a 12% incline.

I will get some miles in, but I have to warn you, I won't like it!:sad2:

Just dropping in to say good morning! The humidity has broken for a day or so. I think it the heat went with it because I actually needed my hoodie this morning. I'm looking forward to running after work tonight.

Eva - I'm glad you were able to get the shoes you wanted! And yay for your DBF, what a sweetheart!

Connie - You must have gotten our humid weather. Good for you and going out anyway! I know it's not easy when it's yucky out.

Well, I'm off! Have a great day everyone and keep up the fantastic work :)

The new shoes did very well so I guess they will have a home. I had to add a second insert to get them to stop touching my ankle bones and this made them a tad snug in the toe box but I have some half inserts for a little heel lift that shoud fix that. I needed more cushion for LSDs and marathoning than my raceing flats and I think these are going to do nicely.

I did 4 miles on my hills in the new shoes and after the first mile I was warmed up,(humid and hot here also), and used to the weight of the shoes. I timed the last mile which was up a half mile long hill and then levels out in 12:07.

Today was weight workout for chest and arms, followed by calestitics and stretching.

Here is my recap for the week:

Sun: 2.5 miles

Mon: 9 miles LSD

Tue: 4 miles hills, weights

Wed: 4 miles speed work

Thur: 4 miles hills, weights

Tomorrow will be 4 miles and shoulder and quads weight workout, then Sat will be weights for chest and arms again and crosstraining in the pool.

Walk/run strong y'all.

Finally went out for a 4 mile walk this morning. As we were finishing the cool air started to come down – probably from Canada – thanks to my northern friends! I appreciate it in the summer but that Cold Canadian Air in the winter is dreadful.

Miranda wants to do at least 3 tonight so I may crank it with her then so I won’t be too far behind for the week.

My legs were so strong this morning, they felt good after the 2 days off. We’ll have to drier days then back to humid on Saturday.

Dave, new “wheels” sound lovely. Miranda went to the running store to be fitted and she loves her new feet so I may stop in there for a pair.

Dreadmil – yes it is -- but when it’s dark, cold, snow-covered they are worth their weight in gold.

Welcome Jennifer, near to me during school season, I’m about 50 miles from you. We have a full and ½ marathon that is a qualifier for Boston – being held 11/2 here in town. I will be in Houston at the time but let me know if you want more info.

That’s a wrap for now.

Well I did get a very short run in this AM short due to tummy probs, just did not feel good. Oh well got it in, feeling fine now, might shoot for a run tonight, and get the display shelf yo, pics to follow.

Boss just said hey that lan nave class you put together can we do it this afternoon, ghee I guess so.....

Later

Good Morning Team!

:welcome: Jennifer! You will enjoy this team!

Got in a short bike ride this morning for cross training, after taking dogs for a short loop around the block. I do enjoy being on the bike, but I do not enjoy the fact that my hands go numb, and get pains shooting up from my wrist if I twist is a certain way (which I cannot quite figure out so I cannot avoid it).
It is nice at 6am, but does get hot in the afternoon, I have already shut down the house today (closed windows and curtains, and turned on the ceiling fans), I bet the air conditioning kicks on early today - usually it does not kick on until about 5 -6pm.

I get a arm workout in every day - sanding drywall:lmao: I have finished the walls, but I still have most of the ceiling to do - not my favorite so I have left it for last.

Time to get back to the laundry and cleaning the house!

Have a great day team!

:cheer2: :cheer2: Welcome Jennifer!:cheer2: :cheer2:

Lynn, no envy from me on your arm workouts!

Scott, hope you are feeling better - I think something is going around. I feel like I am trying to catch something. I have been mega tired this week. (?) :confused3

:hippie: Glad to hear you found a workable solution for the new shoes. :upsidedow

Connie, My feelings - exactly 'Dreadmill.' I tend to use it more in the heat than the cold though. At least I can dress for the cold. :headache:

Gym this morning, Upper Body Workout, 15 miles on the bike, ball crunches, and stretching. Weather permitting taking Hagen for a very-very easy walk.

I just got a call DSI, he has to work late today, so no working on the gazebo unless I can manage to do a bit on the run while Hagen is playing or napping.

Denise, thanks for the tip about the boston qualifier, unfortunately I'm nowhere near in shape to run Boston. I think I'll settle for spending my final year as part of Wellesley's scream tunnel (if you don't know about it, our entire college goes out and lines the path at roughly the 12.5 mile mark. supposedly the noise can be heard from at least a mile away.) One of my friends and I have a bet involving qualifying for boston/running it in the best time before our 5 year reunion.

Today I ran 3.25 miles in 30 minutes. I had planned to run 4, but got caught in a thunderstorm. Now I'll be fidgety until the race tomorrow.

Way to train Kids, Got home and lawn needed mowing, put together the shelf, put the shelf up and took pics, so here ya go, I am a hungry camper need to fix some dinner. Tuna sounds good, simple and light.

Well I knew it had been a while since I had checked on here, so I started to read the thread thinking "WOW, you guys must have been just as busy as me because I was only a few pages behind!" And then I realized that I was still on the JUNE thread!! :scared1: When I found the new July thread I saw you all have been just as chatty as always. :rotfl:

First WELCOME Jeniffer!

I am so jealous of everyone's new running toys and shoes! It will be a while before I get a Garmin. I need new shoes so bad but just have not had to time to go buy them. I have to put a bandaid on the back of my heel every time and my poor big toe is very unhappy with me! I don't have a complete runners toe, only a quarter.

Scott and Lynn, I am really jealous of that rack of medals you have there!!

I think I feel bad for those of you dealing with the humidity! Living here in WA we don't have to deal with that enough to really understand it. :lmao: I just know I don't get enough of the hot weather I love.

For those of you complaining about the Dreamill... I love mine. I can read while I am running, so it gives me the chance of an hour of reading time!

It sounds like everyone has been busy with training, drywalling, movie watching (saw Hancock, thought it was pretty darn funny), boat sinking...the usual. :rotfl:

The week before the 4th we were camping with family...well sort of camping! To be able to save the spot for the holiday weekend, we had to stay there. So we (me, DH, DD, DD's fiance, and DS) would get up at 6:00 am, drive an hour back home to our shop, work all day and then at 8:00 pm drive an hour back to the campsite to sleep. Luckily my two wonderful SIL's had enough food for all of us, so I didn't have to worry about dinner. It was so worth it though! We had the best spot in the whole campground to see fireworks, looking out over the bay and all the islands, where people lived that had a LOT of money to blow up! pixiedust:

4th of July morning I did one of the other local runs I had always wanted to do. The "4th of July, Loggerodeo, Great Sedro Woolley Foot Race" And yes, if you are thinking wow, that sounds like it must be a "little hick town race"...you would be right! It was a 5.17 mile race. WHY 5.17?? Because the car or proabably pick-up truck that originally set the route had a bad odometer! :rotfl: It was several years before the figured it out, so they just kept it the same. But anyway, it was a blast. I lived in that little hick town for 10 years (actually I just live one town 5 miles away now) so I knew a lot of people doing it. It also finished down the parade route and it was pretty motivating having people I knew yell my name out. :cheer2:

Next week I am going in for a physical. My DH decided that if I am really going to train for the marathon in January, he wants to make sure I will be safe and healthy. So after I get the go ahead (which I'm sure I will!) I am taking the plunge and signing up before it's too late! Then I get to really start planning our trip, which is almost just as much fun for me as the actual trip!

Mark, Miranda and I went out and did another 4 miles last night. 8 for the day on Thursday. I was suppose to go again this morning buy my heart was not in it. Too darn tired at 4:45am. In my pea-brain I know I will be doing a lot of walking Saturday in NYC so I don't want to be overtired for all that shopping so we stayed in and had morning coffee.

Got on the scale and lost a pound - finally after weeks of up and down a pound finally down! I have started to eat less and less meat mostly fish and then a lot of meals that are just veggies and can see the difference in my clothes. Still working on the skirt for Miranda's wedding, will try again in 2 weeks. I try it on ever 2 weeks last week I was able to zip the darn thing - couldn't breathe but hey it's a start.

A beautiful day here in NH, I had the windows open overnight and had to put a blanket on. My kind of weather.

Lynn, your face with all that sheet rock dust looks like me a few weeks ago, I on the other hand didn't protect my hair. Medals look great on the rack and I see you have room for more!

Have a good day all - I'm glad it's Friday, and will ease through the day!

Hey Kids,

I felt pooped this morn and decided to take a rest day, want to do a 10 mile run tomorrow morn.

Long days at work might not help, 12 hours seems to be the average this week. I want to get outta here at noon, we will see.

Later,

Yup more room for more bling, LOL out peltry collection pales to others, but hey we just started this madness, so don't stop the carnival.

Good Morning Team!

Tried out new shoes on long walk this morning - probably should not have worn them for a long walk for the first time! My feet were killing me by the time I got home - 7 miles later! My neuromas always seem to dislike new shoes, but the socks I had were also tight, so it may have been partly the socks fault. I will try again tomorrow, for a shorter walk, and with thiner socks. I felt great for the first 4 miles, the last 3 felt like the last 3 miles of a half marathon!

It has been hot here, although we do not have the humidity of the east. It was 84 degrees at 9:30 this morning, I closed the house up at 8:30 this morning - it seemed to work yesterday to keep the house fairly cool.

Have a great day everyone! Need to get back downstairs and get more sanding done - needs to be done today so Scott can but up second coat of mud tomorrow!

Hey Team!

Glad to hear you had a great time Dawnie! SIL's were wonderful to cook for you. It always tastes better if I didn't have to make it! -- The fireworks show sounds amazing!

Margie and Dawnie-I actually have never had a dreadmill. I like the idea of reading during a workout. Often I feel that the real problem with working out is that I can't read ! I know that I will be using it. Some days, I just can't get to a workout before dark, or in the heat or cold. Dark doesn't sound too bad in a city or neighborhood, but out here in the sticks, dark is really, really DARK and there are hungry critters in the dark....coyotes, cougars, bobcats, etc.

Lynn, You look cute in dust!

Denise! Congrats on the pound! :cheer2: That's great! I always remind myself that I can't lose the second pound until the first one is lost! :cloud9: I am very proud of you. I think the greatest detriment to losing weight is waiting.

I had to take the girls in for their shots this morning. They did not want to go because they don't like it at the dr's office. I had one of them throwing a temper tantrum and the other was trying to take a nap. The sleepy one was snarling at the tantrum thrower....big time! I finally got them settled down in the carrier, but when we got to the office, they didn't want OUT of the carrier. They actually braced themselves against the door with all four paws! Oh, did I mention that they are cats??? :lmao:

Okay, I am outta here, for real this time!!! :rolleyes1

Happy Friday everyone! I went out for a run last night. I pushed myself to run faster than I normally would have. I managed to run two of my intervals at 9.3 m/m :cheer2: Now I just have to push myself to run the entire time like that

Denise - Congrats on the weight loss!! I know how hard it is because I'm trying to lose before September and then hopefully more by January.

Connie - You have the best adventures!

Scott/Lyne - Love the medal collection! And Lynne, that is a very cute picture :)

Dawn - Congrats on the July 4th race!

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

Hi guys.

I had a nice 4 miler this morning followed by pool fun. I felt great after working out and had the warped thought that I must not have worked hard enouth since I felt so good.

Lynn, sorry about the shoes. Is this a new shoe for you?

So I ran my first race tonight. All in All it was a good experience and more importantly I finished. I made the classic rookie mistake of taking off waaay too fast and then developping a terrible side stitch that forced me to walk the second mile. I ran about a 31:30 but the timing was probably not the best (which I know I should be happy about especially all things considered). I came in second in my age group, but the perfectionist in me just wants to better in the next one.

Nice race thank you for sharing. What you said about the rookie mistake of going out to fast is one that a lot of races make, even ones that know better. It's so easy to try and stay with the group you start with even if it's to fast for you. About mile one it catches up to them if not before.

Not sure yet what I'm going to do today, might just take a rest day since I haven't had one for a while. I've been doing different activities instead so I don't overtax one body part to much.

Have a wonderfull weekend y'all.
