July- Fitness Independence for Hakuna Matata!

Eva, sounds like good news and little Phoenix is slowly improving :goodvibes

Thanks for the B-Day Wishes...it's Monday the 14th - officially I will be 63 yrs. And today I feel it! I have a head cold or something. I could walk but am opting not to. I am going to bed early as I did not sleep at all last night.

Scott & Lynn take care of the little birds  Scott, does this mean all the walls are up and mudded in the basement now?

Vicky (Bunny Foo), I was afraid to wait on the airline tickets. I don't have a lot of flexibility. And with costs going up I cannot see getting a much better deal. I wanted to leave from the local airport-no gas, parking fees, and hours on the road alone when I am tired. :upsidedow

Denise, thanks for sharing your pictures - seeing we could not be there with you a picture is the next best thing :upsidedow

Connie, 7-hours in a boring class- you have our sincere sympathy!

Wanting to do a Walking Scrapbook - so I signed up for a class on Friday evening. :confused3

Yes all the walls are up and the second coat of mud is done, next weekend will be texture, I hope.

Here are the baby robins, all three accounted for this evening.

Hey they are pooping on our bench :confused3 :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Denise, the New York trip looks like awesome fun. Is it wrong that I'm 21 but two of my favorite places in NYC are the Disney store and the American Girl store?

Today I ran 4 miles plus a .5 mile warm upin about 45 minutes. We got some rain which meant it was cooler but unbelievably muggy. My friday race was ridiculously hot even at 7 at night. A friend of a friend who is a college track runner (and came in 3rd overall) that I ran into at the library even complained about it making him dry heave (tmi, I know). But now I don't feel like such a wuss complaining about the heat.

Good MORN-NING Ha-kuna Ma-ta-ta (say that in your best Robin William's, Good Morning Vietnam voice)

Lisa - Grow old, but never, ever grow up! It's NO fun! I tried it for a few minutes, but I didn't like it!

Scott - Cute li'l birdies. Btw, they have to poop somewhere! I wanted to see pics of Lynn stalking the li'l guys! :lmao:

Queazy Panda - Get well at the same speed you walk! :tinker:

Eva - Still praying and still sending PD for Phoenix! Congratulations on continuing to get your training in. It's a great stress reliever! -- Too bad about the BF and getting lost. Never really understood bachelor and bachelorette parties.......

Supery-dupery Happy Birthday, Margie!!! party:

THe dreadmill has shipped. Should be here this week, I should think. The class went by quickly, I was much surprised that it was interesting! Go figure! I will be doing more stretching, and weights and Pilates until I can see doc about my achilles. Have a great Monday! -- Connie

Hi guys dumb panda here. I have been really stupid so here is the grisly details. I would just keep my mouth shut but just in case someone else has this happen.

As I have posted thge last couple of days, I have been feeling drained. Exactly like you feel when you are coming down with something but it hasn't materialized yet.

Well this afternoon I took a quick potty break and realized my urine was dark. That is one of the classic signs of being dehydrated. So being the mental giant that I am I got to thinking about how much water I've been drinking lately. Now remember every day last week I did 4 plus miles hard on the hills and sweated like a plow horse.

This has been kind of the norm: Up at 5 am and have a few swallows of water to get my vitamin pill to go down. A cereal with skim milk and a cup of coffee. Then off to the gym. I put my bag in the locker and head out for my walk. After I get back sweating like crazy, I get a couple of swallows of water and go to the weight room. After the weights, I do the stretching and calistetics and then have a shower. On the way out I might grab another swallow of water. After I get home I have a coffee with Erica and take a nap.

When I get to work I have a water bottle that I'll take a drink from ever once in a while. At dinner I'll have a small paper cup of water. Maybe another swallow of water in the afternoon. When I get home I'll either have a beer or a bottle of water and go to bed.

Ok back to present. After the dark urine I got my water bottle and drank it empty twice, then at dinner I had 3 big glasses. Well guess what, I'm feeling wonderfull now, I felt so good I mowed the front yard with the push mower and still feel energetic. Right now I'm chugging another bottle.

That was yesterday. Today I slept in, 10 hours total with several potty trips during the night.

In a few minutes Erica and I are off for a 5 mile walk. We had a 10 miler planned but we are moving that to tomorrow. I bonked and needed extra sleep.

Have an awesome day y'all and stay hydrated.

Eva glad you made it out of the combat zone in one piece. That Boy Friend better hang on to you.

Dave
I know what you mean. I ran out of “fuel” last year on a very hot 6 mile session at the track. I was sick the whole day. Finally I went and had a green salad at Panera, bread and a bottle of water.

I think that may be why I’m still tired from my NYC trip today not enough water but I didn’t want to have to look for a place to “go” while I was there and I just forgot about it yesterday. Sooooooooo today I have plenty of water with me. Hope it works – for both of us!

Good Morning Team!

Spending too much time watching the Tour, I should know better, because we will be watching it again when Scott comes home tonight!

Last night I watched 2 of the young robins fly off into the sunset with one of the adults, I thought they were gone for good, but this morning, I found one of them back in the tree with the 1 remaining baby robin. The third, which I have not seen this morning, was the largest one, so he might actually be out on his own.

We did a 6 mile walk this morning, my feet did not bother me, but my knee is still bothering me alot (it does so in spurts), and again, it was a VERY slow walk - I had a really hard time keeping up a pace better than 16 mpm - my overall pace ended up closer to 16:30! We do have another 10K race this weekend, hopefully I will pick up on the pace before then! Of course, breakfast before the race will help!

Dave - keep up that water intake!!!

Happy Birthday Margie!

Have a great day everyone - have to get down to the basement and start the sanding again!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARGIE!!!!

Erica and I did 6.2 miles, (a 10K) and then I mowed the yard. Now I'm working on the water replacement. I'm taking an electrolyte tablet also to make sure that's covered. We are heading out to eat lunch now.

It's a quiet day today. Good thing I guess since it's Monday. I'll try to get out for a walk later tonight but I'm feeling lazy! :rotfl:

Dave - Same thing happened to me on my Saturday run. I just ran out of gas and couldn't force myself to run anymore. I even tried to shorten my intervals and my legs just felt like they were made of lead! At the time, I just figured it was the humidity but after reading your post, I think I should have been hydrating a lot more than I did.

Scott - Really cute pics :)

Margie - Happy Birthday!! Sorry to hear about the head cold - hope it goes away quickly! The scrapbooking class sounds fun. Be warned, it is addictive and expensive...

Lynn - Take care of your knee! Hope it feels better soon :)

Eva - Your DBF is a lucky guy! I would have told my DF to cab it :upsidedow

Hi guys.:flower3:

Someone on another thread that I was telling about my dehydration adventures said their PE teacher told them, "Eat right and pee white". Alrighty then new rule to live by.

We don't scrapbook, we live in choas, so it just wouldn't be pretty.

We did the 6.2 miles this morning and then I mowed the back yard and in my compromised hydration it was rough, way rougher than it should have been.

I've spent the rest of the day sucking down the water and hopefully by tomorrow I'll be back to 100%.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Let's see,

Scott, the baby robins are adorable. They must be quite entertaining to watch.

Happy Birthday Margie!

Panda, my human bio teacher had a similar saying although his exacted words wouldn't get by the censor.

Today I did 3.5 at a pretty easy pace. Took just under 35 minutes. I'm trying to work on consistent pacing (and dare I venture negative splits) after I learned my weakness at the first race was to run too fast for the first mile. My second race is on saturday, and it'll be a morning race and I'm normally an evening runner, so starting thursday I'm gonna try to move my runs to the morning.

Is it a good Morning???

Mark woke me at 5am out of a sound sleep to go walking. He allowed me 20 min to dress, gulp some coffee and head out. OMG, I'm still tired from that NYC trip.

Well I do feel better, I guess if I didn't have him prodding me out of bed, I'd still be there and being a slug.

He knows I need the walk for my joints, yes powerwalking - with my arm movements - helps my neck problems it gets the blood flowing. I feel great now at 7:16 but that 1st mile wasn't easy.

Have a good one.

denise

YES it is a good morning. Any morning that starts with us verticle is a good morning!!!!

Hey! team!

Bills to pay, today, Hakuna Matata team results to work on. Pilates to do. Stretching to accomplish. Nothing much more than that. Y'all have a great day! Drink up!

Connie this week has been a blurr for me when do you need the miles and hours? I have been in survival mode for a bit here.

Denise, you sound like Erica I have to coax my princess out of her nest and confince her that she really wants to go from cosy bed to putting in the miles.

We are off for a 10 miler in a few.

Have a super day everyone.

Hydrating Panda:hippie:

Got up and out fpr a 5K, felt strong, another nice sunrise, off to work.

Later Kids

Good morning, everyone.

Happy Belated Birthday, Margie. Hope you had a fantastic day!

Eva, prayers to baby Phoniex. Your boyfriend is one lucky guy. I second, he should have taken a cab.

Dave, Dave, Dave.....You are one of the last people I would have thought of not taking care of yourself and keeping hydrated. Hope your feeling better.

Scott/ Lynn, I'm going to steal your shelf/peg idea for the race bling. Always wanted to do something like this. Now I just need to make the effort.

Keep up the great training everyone.....Sue

Good Morning Team!

Today was an easy day, took dogs for a short walk around the block, as this walk was for them, I did not try to go fast. Then took the bike out for a 6 mile ride, will have to extent those rides, but I am still getting used to biking after not being on a bike for so long! I was also feeling the need for breakfast about half way thru my ride. When I have been doing a longer walk before breakfast, I have eaten a cliff shot of gel before leaving, I need to do the same for the bike rides.

Looks like running wearhouse has some good deals, I am tempted by some of the shoes on sale, as I now have a size in a few different brands, I might do OK ordering over the internet. They do have the same shoes on sale that I just bought at the store, I have not tried that pair yet, they are supposed to be my racing shoes - may try them on my short walk on Thurs, then for the race on Sat.

Two baby robins were still in the yard last night, I saw both earlier this morning, now I only find one - I did see one fly off into the field on the other side of the fence, will see if it shows back up in one of the trees later.

Connie, will work on adding up weekly totals when I get off here.

Then I will have to get back to sanding drywall - did not get as much done as I would have liked yesterday, but did spend 4 hours in the basement. I was hoping to be finished today, but it will take me a few more days to finish.

Have a great day!

Hey guys!!

Baby Phoenix is doing better! He ate for the first time yesterday and the next step today was to try to breast feed. He may be able to come home soon!

I know it's a "no-no" to some, but I ran my first LSD in my new shoes yesterday. They were comfy the whole 10 miles!!! I had my dad ride his bike up and meet me half way with my old shoes just in case, but I didn't need them after all! Yay for my DBF for buying them for me...such a sweetheart! He said he can't wait for me to cross the finish line in them at the marathon...that will make it all worth it to see me so happy. :cloud9:

Oh and the DBF taking the cab would have been a mess. I was happy to do it..he would have done the same for me in a heartbeat! We're a good team like that! :lovestruc

Lynn - Yay for new shoes! What brands do you wear? I'm in need of a trainer or a lightweight stability shoe for rotating. My newbies will never last me til the big day if I don't get something else too. Do you rotate? BTW..the robins are sooo cute!! Michigan state bird you know! Go Blue!

Margie - Happy Belated Birthday!!! Hope it was great!!!

Jennifer - I actually ran a negative split yesterday...well, if you can apply that to a LSD. It felt great to have that energy banked though!! I'm going to try to keep that up through my training. My garmin helped me pace myself, but I wouldn't have been able to do it otherwise.

Connie - You made a good point about grumblers awhile back! We are a very positive bunch here aren't we?!? I work in a very negative environment and it feels so great to pop on here on my downtime and get a boost!

Denise - LOVED the NYC photos! Makes me want to go there now! Looks like you had a blast!

Dave - 8 glasses a day! :drinking:

OK...well the boss is back and I've been on here forever! Bad, bad, bad!

TTYL!!!

Hi everybody!!

Glad that Baby Phoneix is improving and will get to go home soon!!

Did 6.2 miles yesterday and 10 miles today!!! Got one more walk on tap for this week!

Hope everybody has a great day!!

Erica:)
