Jon & Kate plus 8 budget?

Didn't they say in one episode that Jon's new job was for Beth's husband's company? If they are on the outs, then probably so is the new job.

My DD9 and DS6 watch JK8. They are in it for the little kids and all the cute things the kids do. I am actually happy i dont have to screen it for any sexual references like most other tv shows.

I still like the show. Yes, they do get alot of free things, but that comes with doing the show. All of these reality families get free stuff. I think it must be difficult to raise 8 children, and good for them for being able to take them places and expose them to different trips and experiences, which they would never be able to do without the show. I say ride that train as far as it will go.

This is how I feel. :thumbsup2 DD & I like to watch the show. I love to see the places they go. We have been to many of the places and I love to reminisce.

::yes::
I also agree it is great to have a show all the kids can watch and I don't have to stand over them to make show it isn't inapprorpiate!

No kidding! I couldnt' imagine talking to anyone like she does let alone the supposed love of my life! But Jon is so whipped, what kind of person lets their spouse treat them like that every single day?? I want to tell her to back off and shut up...I wonder how much he's bitten back and not said?

Well one time he told her to pull the stick out and she turned it into some horrible comment and how he's never "spoken to her like that before". Yeah - she can give but not take.

I don't see this show continuing past this year. Really what will be left? The kids will all be in school (Unless Kate decides to homeschool to drag on the drama factor)

Let's face it - when we watch shows like this we WANT to see people are having a tough time. It makes our difficulties feel more manageable when we see others are going through the same or a bit worse. Plus you always want to see how others get through these times- what shortcuts they use, what money saving tips they have... You can sit and nod when they talk about the cost of everything and how hard it is to juggle a family when a spouse works etc.

There's absolutely nothing relatable about them anymore. They are not the same engaging family that started this show a few years ago.

. I remember one episode they were writing a will and figuring out how to divide assets among the children and decided to give them the money at the completion of college or age 30. So they must have a lot socked away for them.

I don't know why I keep "defending" them - that's not really my goal here. I'm jsut surprised by what people read into things. I don't think making a will and designating how assets will be distributed means you are wealthy. This is really common in wills to keep the kids from just spending any money they might inherit foolishly. Usually it's in a trust until 18 or the completion of college and then has to sit untapped until they reach whatever designated age.

I'm sure J&K make tons more money than we do since we're not tv stars - but our will is done the same way. My sister is in charge of our controlling our assets on their behalf until they are 18 or out of college and then the money just sits until they turn 30. It forces them to go out and start making their way instead of possibly handicapping them with a little windfall at a time with they might not have found their way yet.

The amount doesn't matter at all. Most people who die unexpectedly young leave some assets, at the very least some insurance money.

I so agree with this. We are NOt wealthy, that is a funny thought. But we are planning in getting a will done very soon. We have a nice life insurance policy on both of us and we would like some say on how they spend that money if we do die. It is a responsible thing for a family to do, wealthy or poor.

::yes:: I agree with you and I also still like the show. I would be happy for some free stuff, heck I would love a tummy tuck. Sure Kate can be uptight about some things but lets see how perfect any of us would be raising 8 kids :rolleyes1 . I also don't think she is that awful to Jon. He gives her digs all the time too and he does seem like a bit of a slacker. Seems like the teasing is all in good fun to me.

I agree. She's just type A personality. I am sure she was the same when they were dating.

I did watch one episode where Kate said that she was happy that the tv show was allowing her family to take these trips because she never thought it would be possible with 8 kids. What an oppportunity that they have been given!

You know what I just found incredibly funny? Kate dealing with 8 teenagers! Now, thats a show I want to see!:happytv:
Speaking as a mom of four (13,15,19,21);)

Yes! Me too! And I also want to see your reality show.
3 teens & a 21 year old?
Scary!!!!!

I totally agree that the tone of the show is changing.

But please put yourself in their shoes. What would YOU do if your family were in the limelight? They're being given these things, I'm quite sure they don't have to ask for anything it is all being presented to them on a silver platter.

Would you seriously turn down offers for free trips, clothes, etc.? They keep saying that they want to expose their kids to trips & activities, which they are doing. Likely, they wouldn't have the opportunity if it weren't for everything that's been given to them. They know it won't last forever, so why not enjoy the ride???

And even though it seems like every episode is them going on a trip which to us makes it sound like they're ALWAYS traveling, in "real time" it is more spread out. (Wish I could travel as much as they do!)

I certainly have my opinions about Kate & other things related to the show, but as far as the money & luxury things go, I don't have a bit of a problem with it so long as they prepare for the future.

Look at Little People? Remember their house? NOW look at it. It's absolutely massive. They're living the high life as well. Too bad they won't hire a housekeeper though. They're still slobs! :)

Ithe future.

LOL that what I love the Roloff sp?? They seem so real. They don't have a clean house all the time. That's what makes them real to me.

I might be wrong. Didin't Jon grandmother invite them to Hawaii? Isn't that what Kate said last nght??

People gripe they get free stuff. People would gripe if they both worked 40 hours. So it seems to be there are darn if they do darn if they darn don't

If it were my family, I would not have allowed the tv crews in my life in the first place. I would rather have to work my tail off to provide for my family than live in a fishbowl, but I know that's probably just me. I used to watch, and occasionally still do, but I feel for the kids when I do, I think the ice cream in Disney was when I started feeling bad. My kids get sticky, I wash them off. If they are a little dirty, well we are in Disney not at church. That made me feel really sad. I haven't seen most of what is being talk about here. Ever notice though how putting a camera on your everyday life seems to ruin things. Take "Newlyweds", not that Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey would have probably lasted but they supposedly blamed the break up on the show. I was reading about Linda Hogan (People magazine is about all they have at my kid's dance studio) and her divorce from Hulk Hogan and she blamed the show and they had been married a really long time. I'm not saying they are heading that firection, I know nothing about their marriage, but why allow that added stress to an obviously already stressed situation.
No, I'll never travel the places they do and expreience what they do. I never get my hair done let alone my nails, facials and other day at the spa things. I have to live on a tight budget but at the end of the day in my home is my family that I love and not millions of our "closest friends".
Just my personal opinions...

Their house is massive and I am sure paid for in part by the $$$ brought in by the show. But like PP said they don't make everything neat and tidy just because the cameras are there. Maybe it is a gimmick and the house is a mess only when the cameras are there I don't know but it works for me. Hey bring a camera into this house and I am sure we would be called slobs too. That is one reason I enjoy the Rolloffs more than J K 8 They squabble about issues that real families do the kids bicker like real kids do and by golly they leave their cloths on the floor. We were looking into taking a trip with the family and I actually looked into taking a trip out during pumpkin season to go to the Rolloff farm (too far anyway- it was just a fleeting thought) The kids were all for it.

On a side note aside from the Pumpkin season at the farm, the show and speaking engagements, I believe that Amy still teaches Pre-school (someone correct me if I am wrong- I know she used to) and Matt has a bussiness that sells adaptive equipmet for little people to use at hospitals, hotels etc. I am sure that there are things that the Rolloffs don't share but Matt has had an issue with alcohol (and driving intoxicated at that) which has been shared on their show. Hopefully he will continue to get the help he needs. It just seems that what is shown in the episodes are more "real" with the Rolloffs than with the Duggars or Gosselins.
As far as budget goes it isn't accurate to look at these families including the Duggars and think that they are actually living a real budget like the majority of us are here.

I use to really enjoy the show, but to be honest, I stopped watching because I can't stand Kate.

Its not the free stuff that bothered me, hey, if people want to give it away, go for it, it was the whole entitlement mentality she has.

I always wondered why she didn't have her family around her and googled once to find out why. This was before the whole Aunt Jodi thing and it was a real eye opener. While I don't like to believe the worst in people, Kate had already planted the seeds that she could be a not very nice person if crossed, and the blogs seem to confirm it.

I wanted to find the good in her, but other than the swimming teachers that saw the kids for a couple of hours in the summer, there isn't much nice to be found about her. You would think that if any of the mean stuff was false, people that knew them would be coming to their defence. I have never read anything by anyone that actually KNEW them have anything positive to say. Even before the show started, people were saying how mean she was to the volunteers and how picky she was about the free stuff.

I agree that while the Roloffs get free stuff and enjoy wonderful trips, they also lead a more normal life and really seem to appreciate all that is done for them.

I do seem to recall one show early on about how they were "trusting in God" or something to that effect when it came to the kids college funds etc. I know last Christmas, she commented that it was hard to buy for 8 kids, and she was thankful for some viewers/fans who sent things for the kids. However, it sure doesn't look like they go out of their way to be frugal...but, again, if you get comp'ed for everything you do and all the places you visit...

That Christmas episode really bothered me as well, because Kate was saying how hard it is to afford Christmas for eight kids-then she said some viewers offered to send gifts for the kids, and I thought she would say she told the fans to send the gifts to a toy drive or something. NO! Instead she said, "who are we to say no?" and they accepted the gifts from the viewers. :sad2: Really, I felt it was very disingenuous to not acknowledge that financially they are doing very well. I have noticed in the more recent episodes, they don't seem to be complaining about the budget anymore.

The main thing that makes me uncomfortable is really overexposing the kids. They were going to the airport one time and the kids had personalized backpacks (actually I believe also sent by a fan). Kate made a big thing about taping over the kids' names with electrical tape, so strangers wouldn't know their names. :lmao: Really?? Strangers not only know their names, they know their toilet habits, personality quirks, favorite toys, etc. There are some obsessive fans out there-just google Alexis Gosselin or some of the other names. Frankly as a parent I question the wisdom of turning the kids into "tv personalities" but I think J&K are looking at it from a financial standpoint.

I agree about liking the show because it is family friendly, though! I never had to worry about inappropriate things...

I am wondering, too, if Amy Roloff is still working as a preschool teacher. I Know she said on the show last year that she was taking the year off after Jake's accident. He only missed a few days of school, but maybe she felt she should be home more. I have a feeling she is not working anymore.
