Jon & Kate plus 8 budget?

Budget? :rotfl2: at $65,000 per episode?
Seriously, I had to stop watching when each episode was like a 25 minute commercial for:

~ hair plugs
~ teeth whitening
~ fisher price toys
~ Ski lodge in Utah
~ Beach House in NC
~ Gymboree / Gap
~ Dutch Wonderland
~ Hershey Park
~etc, etc, etc...

The show used to be about the family dynamic and how to manage with 8 kids... now its just about product placement.

Soo true. I don't blame them for accepting the freebies- I'm pretty sure I would, too. The show just doesn't interest me as much as it used to. I often feel like I'm watching an infomercial.

Again, good for Jon and Kate and the kids, they probably would never have had this opportunity without the show.

I see this phrase repeated over and over. I'd like to know why everyone thinks it's so wonderful that Jon & Kate are given all these opportunities that they wouldn't have without the show. What makes Jon & Kate so special for so many people to believe that they deserve this life?

Jon & Kate have done a fantastic job of marketing their children for so many people to be buying into this deserving life, full of adventures & freebies. They are only TV celebrities because of the children... for no other reason than that. It's terribly fascinating to me.

If it were my family, I would not have allowed the tv crews in my life in the first place. I would rather have to work my tail off to provide for my family than live in a fishbowl, but I know that's probably just me. I used to watch, and occasionally still do, but I feel for the kids when I do, I think the ice cream in Disney was when I started feeling bad. My kids get sticky, I wash them off. If they are a little dirty, well we are in Disney not at church. That made me feel really sad. I haven't seen most of what is being talk about here. Ever notice though how putting a camera on your everyday life seems to ruin things. Take "Newlyweds", not that Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey would have probably lasted but they supposedly blamed the break up on the show. I was reading about Linda Hogan (People magazine is about all they have at my kid's dance studio) and her divorce from Hulk Hogan and she blamed the show and they had been married a really long time. I'm not saying they are heading that firection, I know nothing about their marriage, but why allow that added stress to an obviously already stressed situation.
No, I'll never travel the places they do and expreience what they do. I never get my hair done let alone my nails, facials and other day at the spa things. I have to live on a tight budget but at the end of the day in my home is my family that I love and not millions of our "closest friends".
Just my personal opinions...

I totally agree with you. I knew John and Patsy Ramsey personally and while the beauty pagents were not a reality show it was still "putting their child out there" and looked what happened in their case. Having money and "putting your children out there" is just a recipe for disaster. I would never do this no matter how much money I got. You give up your ability to be anonymus and your life will never be the same. You can never get it back.

I admit I am not as much of a fan of the show as I used to be. The freebies and what not are annoying, however, who are we to judge?
I've read so much on this thread, (an others) saying stuff about Kate and John being bad parents, she is crazy, overbearing, blah, blah, blah.. maybe it's true, but it's their life and their choice. If you don't like it, then don't watch it.

We all have things that we do in our lives and decisions we make for our families that other poeple would easily pass judgement on, the only difference is our lives aren't sprawled out on TV. The phrase "to each his own", should be kept in mind when thinking about how the Gosselins live thier lives.

Let's also remember that not everything you read on the internet is true! I am not standing up for Kate and Jon or the decisions that they make but I think that no one can pass judgement on them based on what they have "heard" or have read online, or even by what is seen on the show.

While some may not agree with the way they are raising thier children, lets remember they are no ones children, but Jon and Kates, and if you ask me the kids look happy and healthy, loved and that is what is important.

Thanks for listening!

Jon & Kate made the choice to be on TV. The show is their life and their life is the show.

Whatever somes as a result of that is what it is. Good and bad.

I think alot of people are jealous that they don't have the opportunities that Jon and Kate and thier children have been given through thier show. I say try to get your own show.

I'm not saying that they are so special or wonderful. However, I think they saw an opportunity and took advantage of it so as to give thier children a life that they couldn't have otherwised afforded. I say good for them for giving their family the best life they can. Yes, they do get alot of free stuff and trips, but they do give up alot to get this in the way of privacy and living a normal life. It is give and take. No, I wouldn't want to be in their position, but if I were, I would take the free stuff too.

Nobody is forcing you to watch the show. It's the highest rated show on that network so obviously someone is tuning in. They wouldn't be the stars they are if no one watched.

I agree...sort of. :)
While I agree that just because others make different choices than mine, it certainly doesn't make them 'wrong' or 'bad' choices.
But they have chosen a public life for themselves and their children. And with that comes public opinion..for good or for bad. The reality is...that is the way life is! If you put yourself out there for everyone to see in any shape or form...(if you write a book or an article....choose a life in politics...put yourself and /or family on a reality show...etc) you have given people the opportunity to have an opinion about it.
What is the difference between opinions (which we are ALL entitled to) and judgements (which apparently we are not?):confused3

I agree that this show has went down since it started, however, any parents that can juggle that many kids in one deserves a tip of my hat. It is the networks highest rated show, but I've been hearing a lot lately that it has just become more like a half hour infomercial which in my opinion just killed what was a good show

I also see jealousy given as a reason. And I do believe there are people out there who are terribly jealous - the number of hate blogs out there is proof of that. I am not one of those people, though. For all the reasons I posted earlier .. and then some. LOL.

Jon & Kate have absolutely taken advantage of this situation. I also believe they've helped things along through the years as well.

I'm just trying to understand why they deserve the chance to give these opportunities to their children ~ don't we all? Aren't we all trying to do the best for our family? Like I said earlier, I think it's really fascinating.

These shows always start off good, with normal people with normal problems. Then they get money, take free trips to places most people will never be able to afford to go. Get new homes or build on for free etc..Not interested anymore..

I look at it this way. They won the lottery.Do they deserve it?Does anyone deserve it?Heck yes.

I read someone's reply about Little People Big World on here. I totally agree their house is a hot mess! I know they are in remodel mode now but it was filthy before! I am not passing judgement but it just seems to me that they argue a lot over the mess in the house. Amy doesn't clean and Matt complains and does not clean either. And they are passing those habits on to their children. Maybe once their remodel is done they will bulldoze those massive piles of crap out and clean up! It seems a shame to build a beautiful home and have it looking like a hog pen! I don't care for Kate's treatment of her husband or other grown ups but it seems as if she is at least teaching her children to keep things clean. Now if she is doing a major disservice to her children in any way, believe me when they are older they will let her know! You reap what you sow and if her methods and intentions are not good then those children will be able call her on it better than any of us. I just pray it doesn't happen to her. It can't be easy for a parent to be told by a child that they are responsible for any unhappiness. In short if she deserves it , then she'll get hers. Okay I'm off my soapbox now.;) Sorry for the rant. But that dirty Roloff house drives me nuts!!! I just want to get Niecy Nash and fly up there!!

[ "I don't care for Kate's treatment of her husband or other grown ups but it seems as if she is at least teaching her children to keep things clean."

I have to agree, and she is always hitting and swatting at her husband. If a man were to sit on tv slapping his wife it would not be tolerated by people.

I have to say that I LOVE the show. I've watched it since the beginning. Kate is a hoot. I have watched a lot of the subtle nuances of the show and have seen a lot of changes in them for the good.
Kate is a shrew.. Type A... but it looks like it's always been that way. If anything I think she is a bit more relaxed lately.
I have noticed that John has started to grow a bit of a spine, he snaps back! As soon as he does, she realized she has crossed the line. Go John! :)
I have heard Kate acknowledge all the helpers/babysitters many times. Talking about how the show has changed things and now they have more of this help. (I also think this is part of why she is less obsessive, she has had to "let go" a bit)
They are getting tons of free stuff. Good for them! Hey, I don't know many of us who wouldn't want to "move on up" if we got the chance. They seem to be good people. The kids are very "REAL". I love they way the smack each other, etc.. That is real life with a crowd that big. I love that Maddie is always pouting about something. I have one like that. It's real to me.
One way or another, love them or hate them, they have managed over 134 posts on this board over the last few days. I myself will be watching until the last episode! :)

Money & material things don't necessarily equal "best life".

this is nothing - the thread on the Community board is on version #2, after reaching 250 pages :)

I agree that this is true. But with 8 kids and one salary, they would be wondering how to feed them, which also doesn't equate the best life either. While I agree, money isn't everything in life, it sure does help.

This show is allowing both parents to stay at home with thier children almost all the time. I'm sure that makes for some excellent quality time for this family, which they would probably not have but for the show as at least one parent would be working their butt off to maintain food and shelter for all of them.

I like the show. I'm not as faithful a watcher as many, but if I'm home and it is on, I'll watch it. Kate can be a bit much, I'll agree. I just appauld them for taking a very stressful scary situation and turning it into something that helps them. Good for them.

It's not that they "deserve" it more than anyone else, but having sextuplets is very rare and unique. Throw in the fact that all the sextuplets are healthy and that the family has a set of twins to boot, and their situation becomes even more unique. All this makes people very interested in their lives. And because people are more interested in their lives than they would be in most of our lives, Jon & Kate ultimately had the offer to do the the show, and the show has given them opportunities most of us don't have. It has nothing to do with what they "deserve" and everything to do with circumstance.

Let's face it, few people actually get what they "deserve" in life. Neither the good or nor the bad, for that matter. But I do believe that Karma has a way of catchnig up with you.

For the record I'm not a fan at all. Kate seems like a highly flawed human being, based on all the "falling outs" she has with people--her family included. A PP used the term disingenuous and I think that about sums it up. If she were as "Christian" as she purports to be, then she would learn how to work and play better with others and she would learn to be equally gracious for all gifts she has recieved, from the used car seats to the trip to Hawaii.
