Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 8

When we camp, and the Amish kids from the farm next door are there with their baked goods for 5 or 6 hours two days in a row in the hot sun, I never know if we're (our camping group) doing them a favor by buying, so they can unload faster, or if we shouldn't, so their parents won't make them keep coming back. They are young too..the older gal just turned 12 and her little sister is 7 or 8. They work hard, pulling the cart from their home with the baked goods on them.

I knew there was Amish in PA & Ohio are they also in NY?

No, they opened an account for them, but PA has said they have not put any money in the account. The account was opened when they were born, just because PA thought it was a nice thing to do. Others were invited to put money in, and again supposedly, there is very little in that account..one person posted about $50, but I have no idea where they got that info.

Just curious, do they open an account for all newborns born in PA? I find it hard to believe that they only have $50 in the account. That would send a message that people didn't think the college accts were a good idea! I mean, they are 6 yrs old now and to only acquire $50? Why aren't the people of PA doing more for the Gosselin's knowing Kate is a single mother and doing it all alone?

Kate is the star now...having the kids got her the show but she is a star on her own now.

I mean she was on Dancing with the Stars so it must be true:laughing:

The kids are not working like most child actors on weekly shows. They still go to school & really are not required to do much but have fun most of the time. Is it 12 shows for the next year or season, I'm not sure how that works.

If you really want to get upset how about the poor Amish kids that have to work on the farms all week then have to work at the Farmers Market on the weekends.

The kids go to school & really are not required to do much but have fun most of the time???? Really, then why all the meltdowns???:scared1:

We have bought from them at campgrounds in PA, but we also have them in Montgomery County and central NY. It was Central NY, near Cooperstown, at a campground we frequent where the two kids sell items, but we also see them in campgrounds near Stone Arabia, Palatine, NY

Do you have any children?

All kids have meltdowns. I have meltdowns. Everyone has meltdowns.

I'm fascinated by the Amish. I love reading books about them.

Kate has the body build of the PA Dutch. When I saw her dance I was not surprised she had no rhythm. I would love to know how many generations her family lived in the area.

I have no idea if they have opened accounts for others. Maybe someone from PA can answer that. I guess you would have to ask the governor at the time of PA why he did that. He offered it. Things get done in our area also when people have mulitples, and it doesn't have anything to do with their income. We have a babyfood manufacturer in our area, and they have been known to give cases upon cases of food, often diapers and or diaper services are given. Our local big supermarket has given food gift certificates. I assume the governor was welcoming the babies..maybe this was their first set of live sextuplets.

I don't know why you are surprised people weren't giving much money for the kids education...I wouldn't give to it, would you? As to if there is more than $50, I read that on a hate site, and the person said she got it from a source. I made it clear when I mentioned the amount that it was from a supposed source. Maybe more people have given. If you are interested, maybe you can write the governor and ask. It's been mentioned in interviews that there is not a college education given by PA for these kids.

I don't get what you mean..isn't it a good thing that Kate is taking care of her family and doesn't need welfare? As has been said here many times, there are lots of single moms doing it alone..should they all be supported by the people in their state, even if they are supporting themselves?

This is from wiki. I have no idea if it is considered a reputable source.

After the birth of the Gosselin sextuplets, the Lieutenant Governor announced college funds accounts were opened by the state. The accounts were setup, but not funded by the State of Pennsylvania so interested citizens could donate for their college tuition.

From the remarks by Lt. Governor Knoll on May 5, 2005:

Every year in Pennsylvania we welcome over 140,000 new babies. That the Gosselins chose to escalate that number dramatically in 2004 is an occasion worthy of all the celebration we can bring it.

I try to picture 49 years from now when Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah, and Joel will get together for their 50th birthday party. There will be more candles at that event than there were at the Vatican a few weeks ago. It will look like the runway lights have been turned on at an airport.

Somewhere in between this birthday and that one, there will be a lot of other milestones to celebrate -- multiplied by six. Six first days of school, six first dates, six drivers' licenses, six college tuitions…

I know that all parents think about these milestones, especially how they are going to provide their children with a college education. For Kate and Jonathan, I'm sure they think about this often.

That is why, for my gift to the Gosselin Family on this very special occasion, I am opening accounts for all eight of the Gosselin children through the Tuition Account Program, which I had a hand in creating when I served as Pennsylvania State Treasurer.

Contributions to these accounts will accrue throughout the children's lives and be available to them once it comes time to attend college.

If you would like to make a contribution to the Gosselin Family's TAP account, you can do so by making your check payable to "TAP 529," writing "Gosselin" in the memo portion of the check, and sending your contributions to: Gosselin Sextuplets and Twins Accounts, TAP Bureau, 218 Finance Building, Harrisburg, PA 17120. More information on the Tuition Account Program can be obtained by calling 1-800-440-4000 or by visiting the Treasury website and clicking on Tuition Account Program.

Happy Mother's Day, Kate and Jonathan. Pennsylvania is proud of you and this wonderful six-pack whose birthday we honor today. Congratulations, and many blessings for a healthy, happy, and prosperous future for your family!

The amounts donated to these accounts is not public information. As of June 2008, the Gosselins' website said there are no college funds available for the children.

I don't think they need help financially, Kate is taking good care of them. They were in trouble after the divorce but she really pulled it together for them. She is so awesome. It has to be so hard with 8 kids without your husband there for you.

Very interesting! Thanks for finding that.

This Tap account was available to open for any child. I think how it worked was it froze the tuition at the amount it was at a PA college the year you opened the account.

I've had seven children and I can tell you honestly that even if you just count the meltdowns that were shown on tv my kids NEVER had so many meltdowns as these kids do. I don't think all of them put together had as many meltdowns as just we've Mady have.

Oh, and one of the kids has low blood sugar and one has Asperger's.

Oh and no nannies, no live in help, etc. we really did "do it all by ourselves".

We didn't have six at a time but we had three born in 34 months twice!

If only NJ had set up a college fund for my kids the older ones wouldn't have any student loan debt and DH and I would be loaded!

Her bodyguard is always there, as are the live in nannies. She 'pulled it together' by putting the kids back on tv.

So are you saying that Jon is not paying $20,000+ a month in support, sharing responsibility of caring for and raising them... and that Kate is doing it all by herself?
:confused3

I hear you!!! Its families like you that I don't have a problem contributing to. I don't think the filming for the kids is fun. How would you like to have a private moment shared with the entire television network? I think these meltdowns are caused by the stress of the cameras. If the Gosselin's have all this money that people claim they have, why do they need more. If Daddy Gosselin is being paid $22,000 a month to stay away, and Kate is being paid $500,000 as the "star of the show", do they really need all these freebies and paid vacations just for the sake of fame???:happytv:

If you want to pay me I'll show my kids meltdowns on TV. We will cry all the way to the bank. My kids would jump at the chance...they are U Tube stars already:laughing: as far as they are concerned

Were you ever on the debate team?

You asked why all the meltdowns. Mak said her kids have meltdowns too. It sounds like your kids have them too. My kids had them, my grands had them (the worse was at Disney for sure). Meltdowns are certainly not just owned by Kate's kids.

The other issue you seem to have is that that Kate's kids meltdowns are shown on TV. I think that is different from asking why the meltdowns, as if most kids don't have them. For me, that is an issue and I wish TLC didn't show those more private times. But then someone would prob say they aren't really showing the kids as they are and it's not reality. Another no win situation IMO.

Why should I pay you?? Give birth to sextuplets or more and think of all the freebies and vacations you can get. I hope you know what your kids are putting on Utube because I'm sure some parents would be mortified to see what little Susie is really doing with the camera!!

I'm saying Jon is not her hunk a hunk of burning love anymore.
