I think this is exactly why Kate is so desperate to make her new career a success. Her career as a nurse is over - I can't imagine any hospital would be willing to risk the potential lawsuits. Let's face it - this is the woman who practically let her daughter die of thirst before an interview, how likely would it be that she would provide substandard care And let's be real, Jon's track record as a gainfully employed person at a regular job is less than stellar. It's all up to Kate.

Having had a child get medical treatment due to dehydration in a very short period of time due to an illness (fine when she went to bed, not denied water--woke up to vomiting throughout the morning unable to consume anything(--

Her daughter was nowhere close to "dying of thirst'. So sick of people blowing that out of proportion.

Now if an ambulance had showed up and put an IV into her to give her medicine and hydration--people might have a point.

Many things concerning the Gosselins are blown way out of proportion. I won't list any because I don't want to bring them up again.

I'm stepping back from the recent shenangigans and thinking hard about the Gosselin debacle. Because debacle it is. I'm trying to think what is best for the kids.

Jon's behaviour of late has been horrendous. And the latest lawyered stuff is definitely damage control. I called it, in my post up above. But, then, I do believe that the guy was verbally abused. I also believe that his acting out was in response to that. Nevertheless, he needs to clean up his act.

Kate as single Mom. Oh good grief! There are a lot of real single Moms who are laughing their socks off right now at her whining and martyr act. Those single Moms do it without nannies, TLC ,and a coparent who actually turns up for parental time.

I think that TLC may have misread the viewer demographic in going with Kate the martyr and dumping Jon. But time will tell.

My bottom line is that I think I have seen much more nurturing behavior from Jon than I ever have from Kate. Overall. Just my opinion. I just hope that Jon remains part of the children's lives. He seems to enjoy his time with them. Kate doesn't really.

Finally, I hope that filming of the children is stopped. Soon. Did we not learn anything from the Dionnes?

Is it impossible that these two poor excuses for parents could find employment to support their children that does not involve filming them? Kids don't need luxuries, they need love, stability and parental attention.

Sorry but the Gosselins just depress me. Their priorities seem all wrong.

I just read that Jon is calling off the divorce...something about he's delaying his petition for divorce for 6 months?? He said that the divorce has "caused Kate so much pain" and he's ashamed of the way he's acted since they've filed, running around with multiple women.

Again, did I read that article right, or am I missing something here??

Isn't this the guy that just days ago said that Hailey Glassman was his SOULMATE?

If I indeed read that right, I'm going to interpret it as 1) Jon is kicked off TV show 2) Jon sees his gravy train chugging on down the track without him and 3) Jon decides it's time to hightail it after said gravy train.

ETA: Okay, I'm reading back through this thread and it sounds like we're on the same page. (Funny how we all came up with the same "train leaving the station" analogy!!!) I'm sorry, but I cannot STAND Jon Gosselin.

Actually, I think it's a smart legal move, and nothing more really. Kate is going in asking for full custody. Now Jon is asking for a delay to make time for pre-trial agreements, and I'm reading this to include joint custody. IMO, if they go to court wanting completely different things this divorce is going to be extremely nasty. It's pretty easy to assume that they have not been able to agree on anything so far, including the division of assets (including the home) and custody of the kids.

actually, most of the articles about this noted that Jon remains under exclusive contract to TLC and he will still be part of the show but in a limited way (I'm thinking he will be present for birthdays, etc. when they are taping those) so TLC is likely going to have to pay him his full salary for this season since they haven't actually fired him from the show.

And since Kate is trying for full custody, he'll be paying child support if she wins, regardless of where he is working.

But this does raise an important point -- since he remains under exclusive contract to TLC, he won't be able to do any other TV shows without their permission. So that really reduces the number of jobs he could take -- good thing he got an entertainment lawyer to handle his divorce. He's going to need it -- it's like there are 3 spouses fighting in this divorce.

I was wondering the same thing myself -- is the Paula Deen show supposed to be for TLC? They said that she would have another show in 2010 (and I took that to mean a 2nd show)

If the Paula Deen show isn't with TLC, maybe doing the pilot forced TLC's hand -- they didn't want to lose the show with the kids so they've agreed to give her a 2nd show starting in 2010.

So now I'm wondering how much Kate had to do with Jon being dropped from the show. And why TLC is letting Jon do LKL? And realizing there is a lot more wrangling going on behind the scenes than anybody is letting on.

I guess my use of didn't make it clear that I think people ARE blowing it out of proportion.....Kate will never be able to go back to nursing for just that reason - I can't imagine any hospital would be willing to take the risk of a lawsuit, just because a lot of people have blown things out of proportion.

And to bolster her point, she let out some info that was previously unknown -- the TLC network began discussions with Kate for a new show that would debut in 2010. O'Neill said, "I think there's an opportunity for Kate beyond her role as a supermom to explore her other interests."

Since it sounds like they're continuing the current show as "Kate + 8" for as long as they can, I'm taking this to mean she'll have 2 shows with TLC.

no one (except the parties involved) know how the gosselin's contract with tlc was set up, so even if tlc is'nt going to feature jon on the show anymore it does'nt mean his source of income from it will end.

it is'nt unusual for a contract to be negotiated where salary is guaranteed even if a 'performer' is'nt activly featured in a production. a good entertainment lawyer could have lined up a contract for all the members of the family wherein if tlc at it's option decided not to utilize one or more would continue to be obligated to pay their salary-and since it's likely the money was set up for this show to go to jon and kate vs. the kids (to side step the whole child labor issue), jon's income may well continue.

it will be interesting to see how the whole child custody thing plays out-if jon can show he's got a stream of income still coming from tlc but he's no longer being obligated to take part in the day to day (or however often they do it) filming process his lawyer could argue he's in a prime position to be the primary hands on caretaker parent. he's obviously available, nothings ever been publicized that points to him being a danger or neglectful to the kids, and a judge could see it as preferable to a legion of childcare providers filling in the gaps while kate is traveling or away from the home due to her career pursuits.

it will be very interesting from another angle as well-traditionaly courts have not forced women who were'nt the primary earners in a household where income continues to be provided from the second parent to forego custody in order for the woman to provide greater revenue. if jon's legal team can show that over time jon and kate jointly agreed to have him forego traditional work in favor of her pursuing the revenue streams it could be argued that she is the one who is obligated to provide the larger portion of child support, and that since it was'nt an issue with him being the primary caregiver during her absences for those pursuits during their marriage-it is logical and provides continuity for that arrangement to continue after the divorce.

there are plenty of women who have divorced men in the entertainment or other high dollar industries who have sucessfully negotiated support and alimony to facilitate their being sahm's while their kids are young. many use the time their kids are in school or doing visitation with the other parent to develop/pursue their own careers. if jon has a good lawyer he could wrangle a custody situation that gives him the same kind of arrangement.

when it comes down to the dollars and cents of what it costs to support and provide for these 8 children, a strong arguement could be made on either parent's behalf that if one was willing, capable and available to be a sahp the savings vs. what it costs to provide childcare (school days out/minimum days, periods of time when entertainment/promo tours require parent(s) to travel, sick days for kids-and lord if it's anything like with my kids, one gets it and is out of school-returning just as the next one comes down with it multiply that by ) it could be financialy beneficial to all concerned.

Have a great trip ladies! It's a bit chilly here but it's still warm for "northerns" My MIL called earlier this week to say it was 55 in MI and they're coming down tonight to 80 degree days. It was chilly this morning - I think the car said 54 or 56 but it'll warm up soon! I'm sure it warmer down in FL than it here. You'll have a great time that's for sure! We were gonna try and go in Dec for my birthday but I think we're going to in Jan/Feb with the new deal announced....

As for J&K....I had to find out about TLC and Jon from CNN Headline News this morning because I hadn't been lurking along! Ironically, the first thing I thought was that it was another move for ratings so I guess we'll have to see if that helps. Maybe this is why they haven't been showing new shows they've been taping?? Trying to save them for the "new" show??

It still amazes me that some people can do NOTHING right at all but they can still occupy time within our days. I've been trying to stay away but had to check back in when I saw CNN this morning. I'm still curious but I've been too busy with other stuff to be on top of it as I have been in the past.

I also am still working on the time line. Hopefully I'll have some quiet nights the next couple of weeks while DH's gone to class and I can try and get that finished up.

Thanks for letting me pop back in - I do appreciate it! I love this thread and the posters - I'm just baffled by some of the levels of negativity sometimes.

This is an example of how we all can watch the same thing and come away with completely different perspectives at times. Before this tabloid circus began I was more a team Jon person and even then I felt that Kate was the more patient parent and equally nurturing. I think they both enjoy time with the kids, seems to me that Kate enjoys it more these days.

I also hope that Jon remains part of their lives. I found it very touching that Cara put so much work into his Father's Day card which was shown on the last episode. Jon loves the kids, I have no doubt about that as does Kate. I just think he has lost his way and it shows by some very selfish decisions.
