John Travolta Doesn't Believe in anti-depression drugs....

At least he doesn't use the "in your face" method that Mr. Cruise does, nor does he pull the "I'm right, you're wrong" attitude. Hopefully they are doing all they can for their son using other methods available besides medication.

He is right about one thing; he is entitled to his opinion.

R.I.P. Divine :(

There can never be another Divine. :( He/she broke the mold.

As far as John Travolta, I've always loved him as an actor and as a human being. He's entitled to his opinion, which while I don't entirely share I do think in some cases has merit. In interviews, I've found him to be very grounded and centered.

Regarding his son: most autistic children do not benefit from medication....they might take medication for a coinciding condition, but medication doesn't really exist for autism, per se. That said, I had never heard his son may or may not be autistic, this is the first I've ever seen that written. Will have to google to find out more.

I actually agree with him.

Not about the mediciations, of course, but the idea that he's entitled to his own opinion, regardless of his celebrity status.

He can believe whatever he wants and make any decisions he wants about his own health. He's not trying to stop me from taking any legally prescribed medication, so why should I think this makes him a bad person?

To each his own...

The sad thing is not that he won't allow his son medication...he will not allow him any treatment at all. Autistic children benefit from extensive therapy, the earlier the better. He refuses to admit he is autistic because supposedly that type of illness is a stigma to the Scientologists. Sort of like post partum depression, I guess. :sad2:

I find his religion the same as everyone's. I see no distinction.

Whether it is Ra, John Smith, the Pope, Billy Graham, Dalai Lama, etc, etc, etc......all the same to me.

I agree, but sadly people will take this opportunity to trash his religion. Do that on a thread where James Caviezel or Kirk Cameron speak out and the reaction would be much different. :sad2:

BTW: Scientologists are not the only ones that think these drugs are over prescribed and do very little compared to the damage they cause.

He has a right to his opinion, as I do mine.

I have never found him to be obnoxious, as Tom Cruise has been, with regard to Scientology and jamming it down people's throats.

Interesting. Thanks for making that distinction, I thought it was only medication he disagreed with, not therapy. Thats pretty sad if in fact his son is autistic......

that is what is sad to me too. It isn't the medication issue at all. It is that the child has reportedly received no treatment at all. I suppose they do Scientology audits. But it is a shame that according to Scientology people are considered degraded beings that brought their diseases on themselves.

I understand if he doesn't want to be the poster person for Autism Awareness but at least get the kid some of the therapies that are proven to benefit.

These are recent pictures of Jett. I was more upset by John's talking about having another baby. His comments were along the lines that they want another boy because they already have 1 princess but they would like another boy.

I'm wondering why I should care what John Travolta, Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Sean Penn, Rosie O'Donnell, or anybody in Hollywood says about anything.

AMEN to that!!!! I've got a friend who works in the business and there was a joke running on a set once. Someone pointed out this builidng in hollywood that is kinda like a b&b spa type place. He said, this is where the scientologist recruit the hollywood stars and word is that Tom Cruise visited it once and never came back out.

He won't answer the question about whether or not he's gay because he wants his privacy...but he will talk about psych drugs, school shootings, etc. :sad2:

I don't actually care if he's gay or not, but if he really wants to be a private person, I wish he'd shut the hell up and be one.

He was asked for his opinion and he gave it. He was not forcing it down anyone's throat and he is not out trying to convert anyone.

Drugs are not the cure for everything. There have been numerous alternative medicines that have worked in the past.

And what does his being gay or not being gay have aything to do with this thread?

How would you know that his son doesn't receive any type of treatment?

Why is anyone surprised? He is a scientologist who has had very good handlers.

That's not surprising either. I haven't read this whole thread but I did read a synopsis of an interview that the "kids stay up later than they probably should". His wife goes to bed at 3 am. He goes to bed at 7 am and they all sleep during the day. :confused3

John Travolta's is entitled to his opinion just like everyone else. His opinion means no more to me than my mail man's opinion. He's one man. He was asked a direct question and he answered.

I'm surprised Travolta even answered at all. I live in Ocala (15 miles as the crow flies from his Jumbolair residence) and he generally gets good press here as being a regular guy and not flaunting his "religion". In fact, a few years back, an overzealous TV newsperson hounded him about Scientology (after being told the topic was off limits) and JT walked off the set.

Everyone is allowed an opinion, but I generally disregard any "one size fits all" mentality. While Scientology/auditing/engrams may work for one, anti-depressants/therapy may work for another.
