Jingle Bell Jingle BAM Show at DHS with Dessert Party Details POST 8

I'm dying to read the reviews and find out who the special character is! Have fun everyone! Looks awesome!!

The show is spey cute. If you have time I would recommend watching the Prep and Landing short, the story centers around them.
They have less of the bigger fireworks but more of the side fireworks, and great use of lasers and snoap.
Also they leave the projection on the theater and the snoap while people leave. It's still in now (7:18)

Great pics! Thanks as always. How did your HS taping day go? We looked for you.

I just came from the party - I'll probably have to do a two-part because kids. Sorry this isn't formatted better but I'm tired...

I was able to (sorta) see Star Wars on Friday, so I'll come back to that.

Check-in was smooth. Managers everywhere. LOTS of tables, including many low tables. We were a few minutes late and we're able to secure a table. Food stations were scattered about - savory separate from sweet and at least 2 stations of each.
Savory:
Antipasto salad -
Kale salad (sweet - I think it had craisins or raisins)
grilled flatbread
Artichoke dip
Meatballs
Maybe one other item

Sweet:
Chocolate cupcake vanilla frosting with peppermint crumbles and white chocolate Santa hat/ears
Lemon tart
Gingerbread cookie (with dark chocolate?) - I couldn't find a label with its official name
Rice crispy bonbons
Nitro was NOT Nutella  It was "Liquid Nitro Frost Bites" - white chocolate wintergreen with chocolate. (Pics to follow); it was its own station. Also separate station was salted caramel cottage pudding, warm chocolate cake with peppermint cream cheese frosting (IIRC), vanilla ice cream.

Drinks - canned cokes, water, iced tea?, hot chocolate bar (candy canes, whipped cream, marshmallows). And, I'm fairly confident there was coffee. I'll post a pic of the menu with beer & wine selections. Specialty drinks were a Gingerbread Martini and Apple Cinnamon Cocktail.

Let's start with the drinks ;) Of course, everything said is just my opinion and YMMV!! I LOVED the Gingerbread drink! It was creamy but not heavy and the cup was rimmed with Gingerbread crumbs. Seriously, I wish I could have had about three of those! I didn't care as much for the apple drink, but it wasn't bad by any stretch. I think it needed more cinnamon flavor. Both drinks were adequately strong.

Savory items were all yummy. The kale salad was perfect - no bitter aftertaste at all and not too sweet. Antipasto was also very good. Those items were served in plastic cone-shaped containers, and you could lay them on the table without everything spilling out, for the most part. I had a bite of meatball...and it was a meatball. Flatbread and artichoke dip (warm) were tasty. I wish I had had more of it.

Sweets: Rice crispy - meh. Lemon tart, not really for me. The gingerbread cookie thing was surprisingly good IF you like gingerbread. It was soft, and I think the center was dark chocolate. Chocolate cupcake was OK. Nitro bites were good, but I was *really* disappointed there wasn't Nutella. The salted caramel cottage pudding was good - it had a hint of orange to it, I think. It was interesting and I liked it, but didn't love it. I didn't try the warm chocolate cake.

Overall thoughts on the food/drinks: I thought they did a good job of making the sweets "seasonal" although there may have been too many "minty" items. The savory items were much more substantial than it seemed the Star Wars parties had. Overall, I thought a great value for the money - for an adult. However, I didn't think the food was as kid-friendly as the Star Wars menu. If your kid isn't a fan of mint, lemon or Gingerbread, he may be disappointed. My oldest two kids didn't go crazy over anything and my youngest tried a couple of items but ended up eating a ton of rice crispies!

Special guest was Santa Goofy! Quick tour around the tables for pics.

Viewing area
As @yulilin3 said, it is the same as the Star Wars viewing area. Youngest DSs went to front; oldest DS, DH and I stood against the fence on the left (facing the stage). We are short and we had an excellent view - most everyone had crowded toward the middle.

Show
Very cute - younger DSs loved it...LOTS of snow! (Older DS apparently hates everything and has been completely miserable this entire trip...who knew Disney could do that to a kid?) Great for the holidays (maybe not so much November 14th). Take home was a gingerbread Mickey cookie.

ALL THAT BEING SAID...I wish we had done the Star Wars party. I know this is like rubbing salt in the wounds of those who were disappointed. But, I thought the Star Wars show was much more dramatic and impressive, and we didn't even have a great viewing location. Plus, the offerings at the Star Wars party would have been much more appealing to my kids.

ETA: DH and I just discussed and he strongly agreed that food offerings weren't that kid-friendly...so I thought I should emphasize that point.

Feel free to ask questions...though I may not be able to respond until tomorrow. Pictures to follow. (@yulilin3 - feel free to use my post, pictures, etc. as you'd like!)

thank you SO much for taking the time out to post the review tonight!

I just watched a full video of it. I know it's likely better in person, but wow that was unimpressive. I found the pacing slow and the story seemed to lack some cohesiveness. They would talk about Santa being missing and then throw in a random Christmas song with more random projections from movies. Very few fireworks, lots of times where it seemed like there weren't even very many projections happening. Kind of a cute show, but I don't know if I'll make a point of seeing it unless we're there already. I'm even more sad about missing SWaGS now. :sad2:

Love Nightmare before Christmas, but why do Oogie? I watch the video and it was meh. Just made me miss Osborne Lights more!

Just got back from the party too. I don't really have much to add to what Mommaberd said and I didn't take many pictures. This was our vantage point though (sorry about the cell phone quality):

We were standing maybe 10 ft from the tape to the right, in front of the large left projector. The HoloSpex lens were pretty funny. The parks blog mentioned being able to see all sorts of different imagery but all we saw were reindeer head, so I don't know if there are different ones out there or if I just didn't notice. They turn any bright point of light into a light outline of a reindeer head and it made for some really hilarious imagery of seeing fireworks explode in a few dozen reindeer heads. They are otherwise very blurry so you're probably not going to want to watch the entire show with them on. Neat souvenir though.

Side note: A group of Disney management/uppers were standing behind us and as we turned around after the show. They were hugging each other and some were even tearing up. It was nice to see them enjoy the launch of the new show like that.

Thanks for the review and drink menu pic @MommaBerd - they're a big help with planning.

Did you also receive the special glasses?

We did - and I agree with @DoughR - the glasses were fun!

The show was sweet and fun with some neat effects. But completely opposite the Star Wars show in many ways. I don't think it's even fair to compare them. The story line is thin, but it isn't supposed to be a movie - just a fun entertaining show. Good for some warm holiday fuzzies and feels. Just don't go into it thinking SW caliber...or being bitter that it replaced SW...because it won't reach that bar.

Yep, still bitter here.
