Wow that’s crazy. I guess I didn’t realize Julianne is that much older than Jenna and the newer crop of gals.

Actually, at 37, Julianne is only 6 years older. According to Wiki, Julianne & Derek's 4 grandparents were dancers.

"She began dancing competitively at nine. [So, she probably started dancing at 7?] When she was 10, Julianne's parents, who were divorcing, sent Julianne and her brother Derek to London to live and study with their coaches, Corky and Shirley Ballas. The Ballases tutored the Houghs alongside their own son, Mark. [. . .]

"At 15, Julianne became the youngest dancer, and the only American, to win both Junior World Latin Champion and International Latin Youth Champion at the Blackpool Dance Festival."

She was only 18 when she joined DWTS. I remember they kept pairing her up with older guys about twice her age, like Hélio Castroneves & Adam Carolla. I remember thinking it was kind of creepy. Every once in a while, she would remind everyone during the show that she was only 18.

So, while most girls were babysitting for money, she was already winning Blackpool and being on a national TV dance show. If she was teaching around then, it was probably coaching other girls how to also win the junior competitions.

Also, I found an interesting "Six degrees of separation," between Julianne and Jenna. The Houghs were originally from Orem, Utah. Julianne began her formal dance training in Latin Ballroom at the Center Stage Performing Arts Studio in Orem. This is before she 7 Derek went to join the Ballas family.

Jenna's family happened to move to Orem, UT when she was young. "Her eldest sister subsequently became the the director of Center State Performing Arts Studio. When Jenna was old enough to join Center State's senior company, her sisters became "instrumental" to her progress."

I couldn't find how she was instrumental, but it could be that the sister is the one who got Julianne to teach Jenna when Julianne came back to the states.

SO happy to see Mark back!!

I wonder if they are going to pair him up with one of the Mormon women? For a while he kind of got pigeon-holed as the one to teach the religious/more conservative women for a bit, with Candace Cameron Bure, Sadie Robertson and the very young Willow Shields as he can be very creative with his choreography.
