Jesus loves you over MK

we were at Islands of Adventure earlier this year and there was a family of six wearing matching 'Jesus' shirts in the park. all the shirts said on the front and back was 'Jesus'. it's things like these that make me scratch my head, because I don't have any clue what these people are thinking.

Did you stop and think that they might be of Hispanic origin and that was their name? Maybe it was in tribute to their great grandfather who came from Mexico and their just proud. ;)

Instead of pronouncing it "Jesus" as in the religious symbol, maybe it was meant as hey-zeus.:lmao:

DH and I were desperately hunting for a used truck to replace our busted farm truck. We had been everywhere and hadn't found anything remotely right (or inexpensive enough). Our budget was practically nothing but we needed a lot of truck (think under $2K). We live up the road from an auction yard that looks like Sanford and Son's. On a lark I made DH stop there to see if they had anything...even something we could salvage. We had been driving around for days looking at used trucks at lots and on the roadside and were at our wits end. DH saw they had a truck at the place and went to check it out while I sat in the car miserable. He came back a few moments later informing me that the truck was below our price range and to come chekc it out. It was EVERYTHING we needed and moe. In good shape, 4x4, big engine, backse4at, extra long bed, hitch with a brake box. It was even in good shape (unlike the embarassing rust buckets we had looked at).

We test drove it and it had some pretty serious mechanical issues, but nothing DH couldn't fix. We bought it for 1/2 of our measly "budget". I noticed it had a decorative plate on the front that read "Jesus Loves You"...we bought it right then. Truck is wonderful!

Is it possible that someone in the viewing area might be depressed, considering suicide, contemplating divorce, terminally ill, mourning a lost loved one, etc., & this message might be exactly what they need at the time?

Of course it's possible-many things are possible. The likelihood that a person would be cured of depression, stop considering suicide, contemplating divorce or dealing with any other traumatic situation would be significantly assisted by a sky-written message-not so much. If I were dealing with anything like that, I'd want a person next to me demonstrating that love, not writing it in the sky.

If the person who does this is also out there with his money and time actually being present to those folks that are in that kind of need, that would likely bring the idea of the love of Jesus closer to them than the skywriting.

what if they walk by the Nike outlet and see a sign that says 'Just Do It'?

If it's possible, & one person benefits, it's worth every penny he spent doing it. Occasionally, my wife sends me an e-mail or puts a note in my lunch box reminding me she loves me. It's very comforting to me to be reminded of that. I might be having a rough day, but suddenly I feel better & have a better outlook on the rest of the day.

We cannot assume that this man IS NOT putting his faith into action.

And if you notice, I didn't make that assumption, because I don't know this guy or what he does besides the plane. However, it seems pretty clear to me that for the cost of that skywriting operation he could probably do a lot of practical good for people who need to see love in action, not just in words. Even if he is already doing it, how much MORE could he be doing if he wasn't spending all that money on the plane??

Sounds like you're judging his actions. If you knew one person had benefitted, would you feel better about the $$$ spent?

Of course I am, we both are. We're just judging them differently.

If I were in his financial position, I would not be spending all that money on a plane. I'd be using that money to benefit people in more practical ways. The way I interpret the NT, Jesus didn't tell me to spend money writing His name in the sky. He told me that I would be judged based on how I treated others-I'm sure you know the parable of the Sheep and the Goats.

One wonders if you would have the same sentiment to a message that didn't specifically mention Christianity. I doubt "Allah Loves You" would evoke the same response from you.

Jesus said, "Go & spread the Good News." This man is doing that, with the tools & talent he has.

That's not at all what Fitswimmer & I are debating about, is it? Trying to stir the pot a little bit? :rolleyes1

and he has a perfect right to do it-just as others have a perfect right to say it's a waste of money, offensive or just plain annoying.

I agree that a skywriter stating "There is no God" or "Allah loves you" would get a VERY different response from many people. (maybe not you, I wouldn't presume specifics) As for me, I'd still think it was a waste of money that could be put to better use.

We saw the skywriting at WDW last month. I don't remember what it said, but I took a pic of the smiley face:

I wasn't aware you were having a "private" discussion. It was a legitimate question. You can choose to answer it or ignore it.

I'm merely wondering whether people who approve of the message are doing it because they agree with free speech or just the message itself. I think it's a big difference.

And a valid point. It's easy to defend free speech when it's something we agree with or at the very least something that doesn't really register as offensive to us. I'll admit I have a REAL hard time standing up for the free speech rights of people like Fred Phelps or anyone else who preaches hate as a family value.

I don't believe the message, so for me it is really about free speech

The Phelps gang are disgusting, vile, ignorant people, but I totally support their right to protest within the law. I have to. We all have to. If we don't, then the very foundation of our country will begin to crumble. But I can't help getting the feeling that supporting the right of free speech gets very selective sometimes.

I would much rather this guy donate that money to a Christian charity, but whatever. It's his right to do whatever he wants as long as he does not break any law.
