jehovah witness

I've always heard these stories or how people hide when they see them coming, but I have never had an issue. There is a JW lady that stops by my house on a regular basis. The first time she came she asked me if I had ever thought about (something to do with religion--can't remember the exact topic). I said that my degree is in religion and she gave me a copy of the Watchtower and the other magazine because there was an article I "might be interested in". She has been coming by for probably 2 year now, but she has never once asked or told me anything about religion. We have a few minutes of small talk about the kids or the weather or something, she gives me the magazines to read, and she leaves. I have no intention of becoming a JW, but I read the info because I have an interest in religion, I wouldn't even think of not answering the door because she is so nice about it. I would think these other people would figure out that their aggressive tactics make people hide or slam the door in their face and maybe they should try a different approach or just leave them alone.

DH used to loved the JW challenge. When they USED to come to our door, he would go get his bible (theology major) and would start to ask them questions. It was hilarious to watch the bantar - eventually they would walk away dejected. One day, they sent the "elders" back to talk to him. Again, the bibles came out and DH had an enjoyable time......

They don't come here anymore...........not sure why....

I'm going to count to 5. If you are still here you're going to see what's under this robe.

Some fat women can run fast!!:lmao:

These stories are too funny:lmao:

I had a friend who was a nun. The JWs in her town would stop by her house several times a year. By the way she lived with 3 other nuns - Roman Catholic nuns. I think they were pretty committed to their religion, but the JW kept stopping by:rotfl:

I just don't answer the door if it's not somebody I know.

Me either. I have not gone to the door for people in my own church.

I will ususally go to the door for Mormons. They are usually respectful (only had one that got very pushy). They are usually on foot or on bikes and we always offer them some cold bottled water. I know they leave home to do this type of mission trip and for some reason that always tugs at my heart. If it was my kid, I want someone to be nice too. :)

My oldest sons best friend is Mormon. He is the nicest kid you could ever come across. He is a on a mission right now in the Philippines (he has about 8 months left on his 2 year mission). Because of him and how I would want my kid treated as well I try to be very nice while I get my point across that I am just not interested .

I have been very lucky that I have never had any rude people come to my door (when it comes to religion). There is one guy who comes to my college campus that makes me have very unChristian thoughts. He has a sign that says "Jesus hates..." and it lists pretty much everybody in the world (fraternities, alcoholics, etc.). He yells at people as they walk by and tells them they are going to hell. He even brags how he has been escorted off campuses by police and has had his arm broken.

At Disney I was friens with several Mormons. I was curious about their beliefs because I had only ever heard rumors. My parents let me pick my religion, and I converted from Southern Baptist to Catholic back in 04. Before I converted I bought a book that has an explanation of the different denominations, their membership requirements, beliefs, etc. and then went to a different service every Sunday. So I have a keen interest in religion. My friend got me to meet with the missionaries in Orlando and they were very polite. It was neat to do.

Generally the JWs in our area are good about leaving if you say "no thank you".

I had one who, when I said that I was Catholic and quite comfortable with my religion, asked me why I thought my religion was so much better than his. First of all, I hadn't said that. I had said I was happy being Catholic. I didn't sya anything negative about JWs.

But when he asked me that question, in kind of a "snippy" tone, I said "I don't have to sell my religion door to door" which I know was "witchy", but he started it. ;)

I could care less if they spread the rumor that the world is ending.....

I have more issues with allowing their children to die rather then get a blood transfusion :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

This is truly when religion becomes dangerous rather then helpful IMHO

When they come to the door, I just tell them I'm Catholic... that usually scares them off

I have had some interesting conversations with JW's at my front door, and more recently with Morman's, who I actually invited in to sit down. What I don't like is that the JW's have not found a more appropriate way to talk about thier faith. Going door-to-door is so old fashioned, out-dated and as many people have stated, rude. You don't get a good response (usually) from door to door solicitation anymore. People are busy, and simply don't have time to chat in that format, especially with strangers. Why don't they come up with some new ways to share their message? I don't get it.

I wouldn't even open the door. I got caught outside a couple weeks ago by a scammer trying to get info about my power bill. I just told him I don't use power....ok so my garage lights were on. :rotfl: Anyway this past week it was on a local radio station it was a scam and they were collecting info on people. Its really not safe for people to open their doors to strangers!!!

We normally do not answer the door for solicitation but one time a couple of women caught us getting out of our car. Not 100% sure they were JW but I think they were. They seem focused on DW Lauri. The coversation was like this:

JW: Do yo think you will be going to heaven?

Lauri: Of course!

JW: Are you certain?

Lauri: Of course I am

JW: How can you know for sure you will be allowed into Heaven?

Lauri: God told me

JW: God told you?

Lauri: Yeah, he, Abe Lincoln and Elvis were over last night for poker and he gave me his word that games would be at his place after I kick the bucket. I'll put in a good word for you if you want to join us.

And with that the walk to the front door was over and the door was closed on a very confused person. :rotfl:

I havent had to deal with any JW in a long time. I politely told the last ones that I just wasnt interested. Phew... they never came back. :rotfl2:
My DS has a friend that is a JW. I enjoy talking with his mom, but just waiting for her to try and push their faith on me. So far she hasnt. I always want to ask her though about the transfusion thing. That just blows my mind. And am I going to go to hell for saving my childs life, or my own? Or will I go to hell for buying my DH a Valentines card? :confused3

Now those miserable meat salesmen... UGH! I mean really, who is going to buy meat out of a darn pickup truck? I dont answer the door for those guys. A few years back one showed up as I was grilling, and I told him I was a vegetarian... he pointed out the grill and I told him I was grilling veggies :rotfl:

For the record Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe in Hell and we go to people's homes because that's what Jesus and his Apostles did and it's what we're commanded to do from the Bible. And like the Apostles we also preach in public places. Shopping malls, buses, train stations.

Paul in Acts 20:20 "How I did not shrink from telling you anything that was for your benefit and teaching you in public meetings and from house to house,"

Jesus in Matthew 28:19 "Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit."

We are also commanded not to eat blood.

Genesis 9:4 "But life is in the blood, and you must not eat any meat that still has blood in it."

Leviticus 17:10-12 "If any Israelite or foreigner living among them eats blood, I will disown that person and cut him off from his people, for the life of an animal is in the blood. I have provided the blood for you to make atonement for your lives on the Altar; it is the blood, the life, that makes atonement. That's why I tell the People of Israel, 'Don't eat blood.' The same goes for the foreigner who lives among you, 'Don't eat blood.'

You might think that eating blood and getting a blood transfusion is different but it's still being put into your body. In most Bible translations Acts 15:29 says to abstain from blood. We're supposed to avoid it whether it's intravenously or ingesting it.

Thats all well and good... but that doesn't stop me from feeling like pushing that belief on your child in a life or death situation is plain out child abuse and you won't convince me otherwise so don't bother trying or quoting the bible to me because I am a realist and a non believer anyway so it's pointless....

:thumbsup2 Heck YEAH!!

No need to get snarky. People said they don't understand about the transfusion thing, so the poster quoted their beliefs and the support for them.

My mom works in a hospital lab and every so often gets blood bank duty. She hates it when a JW comes in because there is nothing they can do. I admit to being of mixed feelings when it comes to their children. On the one hand this is a huge part of their beliefs and we do believe in religious freedom in our society. On the other hand, I definitely do not believe that a child should die for lack of medical treatment due to a parent's beliefs. In the end, I will always take the side that the child's life will take precedence over a parent's religious beliefs, but it's not a black and white issue.

I feel strongly about it, even witnessed it once.. You have no idea what it is like to be a nurse completely helpless because of a patients fanatical (YES I SAID IT) religious viewpoints, I literally had to sit there as this poor kids hemoglobin tanked below 5 and there was not a damn thing I could do about it except cry alone in the staff room :sad2:

Religious freedom to a point but not when it becomes dangerous

Call me snarky, say it's not black and white.. I think it's child abuse at the severest of degrees and thats all there is to it... Oh and yea, they "supported their beliefs" by quoting the bible and falling in line like a sheep... even using words like "commanded" I am so happy my mother raised me to be a free thinker, thank god for my daughter if she would ever need a blood transfusion
